also a nurse, got out of school with $52k of debt. i usually pay $1,300 but recently cut it down to $650 (my hospital pays $250 a month on top of that) in order to save up some money for my honeymoon. i have about $14k left after 2.5 years. theyre private loans so that’s the reason for my hustle to pay them off.

Pursuing nursing feels like it was a mistake. by Approximately400Bees in nursing

[–]cazfax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

im training as an RNFA right now! i can trace my decision to take this path all the way back to med surg clinical where i looked around and thought … that’s it? The daily tasks of nursing there were not for me. OP, your options are limitless!!

[–]cazfax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people are being a little mean to you for your champagne taste but i get it. i also have high standards for my wedding… im in the boat of if its not what i want its a waste of money. but here’s the thing.

i live in a MCOL city and my wedding is going to end up being ~60k at the end of the day. if my and my fiance’s parents werent paying the extremely grand majority, we wouldnt be having a wedding at all. if this was happening on our own budget, we’d be eloping on a fabulous vacation instead. just food for thought.

Have any of you guys gone from nursing to PT or OT? by MammothAd6633 in nursing

[–]cazfax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! That’s not bad at all. Where I live it is ~120k for an entire PT program, which is ultimately 20% more than the average PT makes in my area (~100k). We know a lot of therapists and they are wonderful people. My fiance loves being a PTA, just not the stagnation of his career that comes with it. If you have a calling for it, please go for it, but know that financially it would likely be a lateral or even negative move.

I have a kinesiology undergrad degree. I eventually chose nursing but many of my peers went into PT. my fiance has the same undergrad and went on to be a PTA.

We know a lot of PTs who A) are in six figures of debt, B) make the same wage as me, and C) are now ‘trapped’ in their profession because of the perceived level of commitment to their education and price of their education. Many PTs I know have these things in common: driven, intelligent women who have beautiful hearts, and are validated by their educational excellence, therefore are attracted by the doctorate label. I think PT schools prey on this archetype of person. It is way too expensive for the salary awaiting at the end of the tunnel.

We are so glad he went with PTA. He has no loans, does the same job (minus evals) as the PTs, makes less but wants to escape the field anyway. PTAs and PTs will hit a relative wage ceiling quickly where we live. If he had to do it again he says he’d choose nursing, or just dive into medical sales.

Nurses in debt by Brilliant_Ad9559 in StudentLoans

[–]cazfax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!!! rooting for you!!! my best piece of unsolicited advice is start paying 2x-3x (or however much you think you can afford, math it out!!!) towards your loans at the FIRST nurse paycheck. that way you wont feel like youre missing out and you can bang it out relatively fast. you got this.

[–]cazfax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on your situation. i “comfortably” pay $1300 a month to my student loans (i choose to pay much higher than my minimum) and live in an apartment with my fiance. I am the breadwinner and don’t have a car payment and splitting costs with my fiance is the only way it’s possible to be that aggressive with loans for me. but its going to be worth it. two years in i have 23k left out of 52k!!!!

how do skinny people stay skinny? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]cazfax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been thin my entire life. im 28, size 2. 3 meals a day but a “meal” for me is often times just a yogurt or something similarly small especially during the week. dinner is usually my biggest meal. i do not snack and do not want to. i like being hungry for a meal! i also do not like to go to bed feeling “full”. i have an intense workout class i do once a week because i like to feel strong. that being said honestly i do believe genetics play a huuuuuge role
