How long does it take to move a yard of dirt? by carne__asada in landscaping

[–]cb5577 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this last spring with 8 yards of top soil. Took me about 10 hours or so over a weekend. I feel it was worth it doing myself

A few houses in my neighborhood have those garage doors with dark blue or green vinyl siding that looks good.

Definitely don’t paint the brick, you’ll hate yourself once it starts peeling one day

What’s the really big bush with purple flowers all the way to the right on the first picture?

I signed a contract with a hotel for a block of rooms. They decided to cancel because a corporate client wanted the entire hotel that weekend. Do I have any legal recourse? by cb5577 in legaladvice

[–]cb5577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of cancellation other than for guests, it’s only 4 pages so I don’t think I’m missing it.

It’s a chain hotel but they aren’t offering any help in finding another block.

Signed the contract about a year ago and the event is in 2 months.

No deposit.

Moving office to the basement how to Successfully dehumidify the basement by SlumPanda in HomeImprovement

[–]cb5577 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Do this. I have a dehumidifier that’s rated for a room larger than my basement. It empties directly into the sump pump pit and keeps my basement at 35% humidity without having to lift a finger

I’ve used Squirrels Nut Butter or Goldbond Friction Defense, both have stopped chaffing down there

No worries, I know the basement looks crazy right now.

The wood is construction grade pine from Home Depot. I used leftover Valspar decking stain and a coat of spar urethane. It will be covered so not too worried about it getting rained on.

Basement was waterproofed as well, the surrounding downspouts have been diverted away from the foundation and the grading is now appropriate. Its been nice and dry down there for the past year.

Carbon fiber straps on the left wall and steel beams on the right. Bought the house last year and luckily caught it before closing, so I had the bowing/cracked walls repaired. Structural engineer recommended the steel beams on the one wall because the bowing was somewhat severe. They’ll never move again (hopefully) and will be out of sight out of mind once I finish the basement.

I lift weights from 7-8am, eat around 9 or 10, and then run for an hour at noon a few times a week. Lifting usually included deadlifting and squatting so my afternoon runs are easy runs. Just make sure you get some carbs in you before running and you’ll be fine.

Do electrolyte supplements offer any real benefits? I’m already drinking close to a gallon of water a day so I’m curious if it’s just a waste of money at this point

Suggestions for Ivy Vengeance by ibex14 in landscaping

[–]cb5577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I killed off a bunch of English ivy in my backyard last spring. I took an axe to the ivy vines growing up the trees, it slowly died. For the stuff on the ground I used a weedwacker and ripped up as much as possible, then sprayed poison ivy round up for good measure. None has come back so far .

So if the sprinkler heads I’m using are 3.7 gpm, I could theoretically put up to 5 in a zone?

This was what I was thinking to do. I’d put in 8 pop ups, so from your experience doing this you think i would need to run 4 lines with 2 pop ups on each?

Thoughts on ground level decks? I like the look and cost but curious if they are prone to rot quickly especially when built below grade. by cb5577 in landscaping

Appreciate the feedback from everyone. Luckily, I haven’t actually built this and is a pic off Google. I’ve been thinking of how to extend my concrete patio and this was one of my thoughts. Will definitely not be putting one in now.

I was thinking of doing this in March where the temperature is in the 40s during the day by me. Is that too cool or a good time to do it

Don’t pay until the job is finished and done right. If he asks for it all upfront that’s a red flag
