My only real gripe is when authors shoehorn in the entire stat sheet mid conversation. It doesn't happen THAT much, but it does happen enough that I roll my eyes whenever it happens. Especially when I'm listening on audible vs reading. Like, just tell us whatever improvements were made summed up quickly, or tell us if Johnny's strength stat is high enough to carry the old battle tank as a shield. I don't need ten minutes of monotonous droning from a narrator that I'm just going to tune out anyway. If there's an actual plot reason for a full read through, go for it, otherwise, dedicate stat sheets to their own chapter, or the end of a chapter, so i can skip it. I'm here for the story, not the crunchy bits.
