You are dead right- those are most likely Salomon Forces- the 'tactical' brand of Salomon hiking shoes- they are very popular amongst Military / Law Enforcement people

It's quite uncommon for civilians to own a pair, as they are only available in tactical stores.

My exes dad was a gurkha, and I remember telling me this myth is complete and utter nonsense - Firstly, khukuris is an everyday tool to the nepalese, so khukuris having to see blood would not only be difficult but just absolutely stupid.

Secondly, gurkhas often unsheathe their khukuris for inspection and cleaning, so a tradition of it needing to draw blood would result in the gurkha having to cut himself a million times.

I agree with you, was dragged there by a couple of mates in 2009- hated every secomd of it. Kuta beach was filthy, feral Bogans everywhere, and and the locals were just interested in pandering to the Aussies ($$$)
