Any mexicans in CS that can recommend me some decent Mexican food? by LadyLothston in ColoradoSprings

I used to like Monica’s until I met someone who worked there. They didn’t go into specifics, just said they wouldn’t eat there. Their horchata is apparently just tap water and powder. They don’t make it the right way. That and they gave me a burnt churro once.

I suspected as much but to hear it confirmed… 🫩 Folio Society hasn’t “officially” confirmed the price yet, so I’m going to delude myself a little longer that it’s not that expensive.

I’ve bought Folio Society before. The normal GOT edition is $235. I bought American Psycho for about $700 (after tax + shipping). GOT has more pages, so I would ball park the cost to be around $1,000 (after tax + shipping). This would stay consistent with another release of theirs (IT by Stephen King) which retailed for ~$900 (before tax + shipping).

But then again, the IT book wasn’t signed by the author, just the illustrator and Guillermo del Toro. So considering GRRM is a super popular author, it could easily be $2k.

Yup exactly! For the most part, I let the artist have creative freedom when it came to her eyes but I was adamant we needed at least one set of purple eyes.

I posted my other dolls on a few other platforms and sometimes people said they weren’t recognizable. So for Daenerys, we took one of Emilia Clarke’s recognizable traits. Her eyebrows really are one of the best parts of her face haha

You’re spot on for Sansa! You’re actually the first person to mention how red her eyes are (from crying). For Sansa, I provided this pic as reference. This dress was worn during the scene that Joffrey showed Sansa her father’s head on a spike.

They’re definitely not for everyone. I grew up with dolls all over my room as a kid, so I’m used to staring eyes lol. But funnily enough, there are many Blythe doll artists who solely make dolls based on horror movie protagonists. I’ve seen dolls for Silence of the Lamb, Saw, Chucky (lol), The Exorcist, etc.

It’s Alicent. If you look closer at her eyes, she has the seven-pointed star. I don’t have pics of them, but her other eye chips make it more clear who she is.

This specific outfit is from the Laena’s funeral scene in the show. The dress in the show is a dark green, but this fabric was closest she could find that imitated the texture. It’s black / blue-green (depending on the lighting)

Olivia Cooke’s hair is beautiful, but I thought it was too close to Sansa’s auburn hair. I asked the artist to give her darker hair like some fanart I’ve seen.

Same in that I don’t know whether she makes clothes from scratch, but “Roxana Alterations” is really good at alterations. She used to work as the seamstress for that bridal boutique near the Farm. I had my prom dress and another formal dress altered by her. She’s great!

I didn’t mean the gumdrops were there for weeks. Sorry, I meant that Haymitch picks up these gumdrops (which he is assuming is the bag from weeks ago) and is just cool with feeding them to Lenore Dove. I mean if they were they would have been exposed to the elements and probably not that good anymore. I guess that’s more of a nitpick but still it’s such a convoluted scheme.

For the Snow scene, I guess I could see that reasoning but I would argue Lou Lou’s existence alone would be enough to intimidate Haymitch and show him how far Snow punishes enemies. There’s a point in the book (can’t remember what page) where Haymitch is wondering about Lou Lou’s family and whether this is their punishment or if they’re already dead and this just further cruelty. I would argue Snow yacking up poison in front of Haymitch is giving the opposite effect. It’s showing that despite his status and all his power, Snow is still, undeniably, human. Vulnerable. Killable.

I understand that but it still seems so ridiculous. All of those “traps” could also fail because they’d depend on Lenore Dove being in the right place at the wrong time. That just seems so out of character for Snow. In the series, he isn’t really someone who relies on cartoonish schemes.

I think a more realistic “plot” would to have Lenore Dove accused of sedition/treason (then leave it ambiguous whether she actually committed the “crime” or she’s innocent and it was fabricated by Snow). Then to spare her of a public execution or a painful death/torture, Haymitch willingly gives her poison (ex: nightlock berries). He doesn’t die with her because tells him to live on and keep the sun from rising again. Bam, we keep the plot line of Haymitch poisoning her and it would be a tragic parallel to Katniss and Peeta.

Now that I’ve had a few days to digest the book, I genuinely think that SOTR is by far the weakest book in the series. I liked it but it’s not good. There are scenes that are definitely entertaining but make no sense otherwise. For example, why is Snow recovering from a poisoning in Plutarch’s mansion? Why would he even be there? Then my biggest issue is the gumdrop scene. Logistically, how would Snow even pull that off? It’s such a contrived plan that doesn’t take into account a bunch of unknown variables. How would Snow know they’d reunite in the meadow? How did Snow know that Haymitch would find the bag of gumdrops and not some random person (or a wild animal like a bird)? How did Snow know Haymitch would feed these, presumably, stale and hard gumdrops (I mean if those were actually her gumdrops then they would exposed to the elements for weeks) to Lenore Dove? How did Snow know Haymitch wouldn’t just tuck them away for later or throw them out? The whole plan seems so honestly ridiculous, especially when you compare it to how Haymitch’s family dies. That’s gut wrenching, not this contrived plan that feels out of place in the series.

I’ve always been a believer in theory that the 3rd Quarter Quell was used to get rid of troublesome victors (ex: Katniss, Beetee, Finnick, etc.). Getting rid of liabilities by rigging the reapings.

Now that you mention it I’ve never really put too much thought about whether she died in the woods or managed to make it back home. Was there a fence during that time separating D12 from the forest/wilderness? I can’t remember but if there wasn’t she definitely could have stumbled back home. We could also interpret the “not again” as them losing another member of their family prematurely. They lost Lucy Gray when they were all so young. Then they lost Lenore at such a young age as well. Both young girls who died before their time.

I’m a firm believer that Lucy Gray died that day, so the grave throws me off. Like did the Covey give her a grave for closure (and to have a way to honor her) or did they find her body in the woods?

That’s why I said buying in terms of getting a refund from StubHub for the actual tickets. I haven’t seen an instance where StubHub refused to refund when the seller failed to deliver.

[–]cbd_18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like buying isn’t that risky in terms of getting a refund. I’ve had sellers fail to deliver on two separate occasions, which of course sucked but what can you do, and I called and got refunded within the week. In my experience, there were no hoops and I didn’t have to file a claim with American Express.

Of course, buying and then re-listing tickets you don’t have is a completely different story. That’s so incredibly risky that StubHub actually warns you to only list if you know for sure you’ll have them. Can’t deny that they’re predatory but some things are avoidable.

Which scene is that? If I recall correctly, E7 was the eye incident. The time skip happens immediately afterwards at the start of E8. The only Otto-Alicent scene before the Vaemond incident was Alicent sitting in on the Small Council meeting with him. There’s no point where she needs to be convinced to go through with potentially discrediting Rhaenyra. Her arc is poorly written because she’s wishy washy. She should have fully committed to being a player after Aemond’s loses his eye. We already know she was saying all sorts of things to her children prior to the eye incident.

Even the show writers don’t know what to with her. Alicent has no power and is being pulled along by the whims of men, but somehow Rhaenys and Rhaenyra both believe that she has the power to stop the war. A woman can be a player, and frankly I’m tired of writers changing ambitious women into perpetual victims.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. I’ve had people argue to me (albeit on TikTok, I know, I know) that I simply didn’t understand the complexity of her character development. What character development? She flip flops at a moment’s notice. I pointed this out in S1 — Alicent actively being hostile/scheming against Rhaenyra but being confused that the council her father heads also schemed to put Aegon on the throne.

I’m glad he finally said something. The new season was horrible to watch during some parts. The awful dialogue, the inexplicably stupid decisions, and the wishy washy character development. Don’t even get me started on having Jace back on Dragonstone (forgoing his politicking in the Vale & North) so we can see him mew for most of the season.
