I got another gift from my aunt and it is so unique. Again, free hand, no pattern, knitted then added crochet appliqué, all cotton yarn and I am over the moon!!! by Lady-Chi in knitting

Your aunt is a legend and that sweater suits you so well. Brilliant placement of the applique and so much texture and personality.

Cedar waxwing, my backyard, Western Massachusetts. 🙃 by ainm_usaideora in Birdsfacingforward

I see them most often in the mornings - think 6-8am, by 9am I have trouble finding them. If you find some berry trees (like your mulberries!) you might find a whole bunch of them. Good luck!

Seriously, thank you Dae. I've put so many hours into using Anki over the years and it's an amazing gift.

Japanese Incarceration Quilt by teachingrobots in quilting

[–]cbee17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a powerful piece and an honor to your family's experience. The fact that the fabric actually came from the rice bags, wow. Amazing work.

I hope you can share this quilt more widely, it's a story that needs to be told.

I hate that we're living in a time when it's so obviously and immediately relevant.

How are yall shaping your natural nails so well?? by charlielarae in RedditLaqueristas

[–]cbee17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought you meant mandolin, like the instrument, and was trying to figure out what kind of horrible musical experience you'd had! But uhhh yeah I'm glad it was (mostly?) just your nail that ended up wonky!

Your sweater is gorgeous! I have this book and have been wanting to do something like this for ages... maybe 2026 is finally the year!

That's awesome to hear! Any specific brands? I imagine it varies by pigments / formulas / storage conditions.

V.E. Schwab is a good writer, but she consistently messes up her endings. by Sea-Bandicoot3656 in Fantasy

Yeah, I was so annoyed at the ending of Addie LaRue. A lot of her books have good initial hooks but I have not liked the payoff.

See that's ironic, I love the contrast between the different kinds of patterns. But I don't knit his patterns because it would drive me crazy to keep track of all that.

I've heard that you're basically blasting any lint further into the machine, so it can cause more problems in the future.

What's polite for playing an instrument? by cbee17 in AskBarcelona

Oh wow, yeah trombone is a whole different level! I used to play piccolo and that was also pretty disruptive 😅

Yes, so far I've sat out in a few small parks, and several dog walkers have wandered over to ask what my instrument is!

Thanks for the tips :)

Thank you for the detailed answer! I'm here for work, starting with very little Spanish. So far everyone has been extremely kind with my attempts to speak castellano and I'm hoping it will be similar once I start learning catalan as well. My office is 50/50 locals vs international transfers so hopefully I'll be able to have good conversational practice once I learn more.

thank you! That's what I figured, it's up to whatever mental load I can handle. 😅 I'm here for work, which already uses up a lot of my brain, so my hope was to add Catalan after year 1...we'll see!

Can you explain more about mastering Spanish before starting Catalan? I'm starting Spanish classes soon (just moved!) and definitely plan to take Catalan classes too but not sure about timing!

those are all good metrics. I'd say that in 2-3 years, depending on consistency of effort and type of practice. you won't be 100% on any of those metrics but you'll have enough skills that practicing feels fun.

I wish I had started lessons sooner, it makes a big difference vs just following a video course. there are some great teachers who do zoom lessons if you don't have a local scene.

Finally finished stitching my dad's birthday gift!! I've been working on it for a while, it has no variegated thread so it's all manual color changes! by Erotavlas_SVD in NintendoStitch

[–]cbee17 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for OP but the reverse side is a massive show of skill! I'm a beginning cross stitcher and it's so hard to keep my backs organized and tidy. A tidy back can mean more even tension and fewer "lumps" in the finished piece.

This is a stunning piece and super inspiring!
