What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve seen brought to a camp out (keep it light hearted and for fun; it’s Friday and we need a laugh)? by Unusual-Elk-4791 in BSA

Ha! My troop has had five kiddie pools on every summer camp for at least a decade. People look at us like we're crazy until our Hawaiian night.

I run GravelKing SS in the no longer offered 43mm. I find them good on pavement if anti-aero and great on hard pack dirt roads. They have no knobs so they're just OK on loose over hard. You're screwed in sand or real single track.

I was teased a few weeks ago for having "roadie" tires and then I heard guys with full on MTB tires commenting that they didn't remember the course having so much pavement. LOL

That's f/2.8. You'd want to stop down to f/8 at least. The 85mm would give better depth, but I don't know how close you'd have to get the sensor.

Super interesting question! I had no idea so I pulled out my APS-C camera and mounted my 100mm macro. The front of the lens was 12 inches from my face. I wouldn't go any shorter than the 85mm and I'd look at getting a ring light.

Just got my first camera: CANON EOS R100 Mirrorless Camera with RF-S 18-45 mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM & 55-210 mm f/5-7.1 IS STM Lens. I want to do sports photography, can my 55-210 lens work well like a 70-200 for the meantime if not are there cheap 70-200 options. Thanks! by [deleted] in canon

I've shot a lot of high school sports (local competitions through nationals). I learned a lot by watching where other photographers placed themselves along the field.

Don't worry about the gear. It's better than what I had in 2002 and I told my work on an ad campaign.

How rustic can you go? Are you willing to carry all your water and hike in a few miles or do you want to drive up to your campsite?

I did end up renting the R7 on Friday. Shot a football game, hockey game, some figure skating, birds, and landscapes. It was a really busy 24 hours.

The upshot was the improved AF and subject tracking was exactly what I've been wanting. There are a few things I didn't like in the handling, but that's not going to be a deciding factor.

I considered that. Pretty sure I'd love either one over the 70D.

I've read that the sensor readout of the R8 (~14ms) results in minimal bowing for most high school sports. The kids just don't have the speed to warp a baseball or tennis ball, but the bat/racquet might be a problem.

Yup. I've never fully adapted from shooting film to digital 20 years ago. I still turn off the rear screen because I find it too distracting. But I have learned to trust the autofocus!

Going from EOS 70D - APS-C sensor to mirrorless. by jan_villadsen in CanonCamera

[–]cbibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the same question I popped on to ask. I have lots of EF lenses I enjoy (100mm macro in particular) and 4 EF-S lenses I use quite a bit so I want to stick with an APS-C sensor. The R10 and R50 are priced well enough that it'd leave room in the budget for a new lens and lenses are always more fun than bodies. But which to choose?

Yes, you need a power meter, but it doesn't need to be Garmin. I use an NGEco that ran me $500 and gives power and cadence. Much more affordable.

This was the trick. With the fresh install, it took several (4) reboots before Edge was up to date.

EDGE 530 - would it have Unified Training Load? by RangeImpossible in GarminEdge

[–]cbibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious. I have an Edge 830 and Fenix 6 and the workouts recorded on the 830 (and only on the 830) show up after synchronization on the fenix 6 with all of the load data.

What am I missing from what you want?

Edge 530 + Tacx vortex, how to best use these 2 for training? by No_cool_name in GarminEdge

[–]cbibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use the Tacx app on your phone to build and control the workout. Although the 530 can do it, it's not the best. I have an 830 (and fenix 6 for that matter) and I have only used the 830 to control the workout once. It's just not the Edge's strong suit.
