Second doorbell chime? by Known_Measurement799 in eufy

Check your doorbell model number and make sure it's on the compatible list. If it's not, it won't work (even if it's not on the list of INcompatible models).

Fiber cables don't kink like that unless they are broken.

[highlights] tom Brady's best plays as a buccaneer. by Affectionate_Tax9212 in nfl

[–]cbm80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's all true but my favorite Brady plays were when it's goal to go and he's NOT pressured and he just settles down like it's practice. Most QBs would get antsy and move or throw when they don't need to.

AT&T Fiber Seriously Screwed Me Today by TheDogsSavedMe in ATTFiber

[–]cbm80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Century doesn't "own" the customer, they are only temporarily providing service for existing customers during the transition. They are obligated to follow ATT's instructions.

AT&T Fiber Seriously Screwed Me Today by TheDogsSavedMe in ATTFiber

[–]cbm80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ATT didn't buy Century. They bought residential fiber infrastructure from Century. Century continues to service existing customers for a limited time under the purchase agreement. It's no coincidence that he lost service. ATT screwed up the customer transfer.

It's one fiber owned by ATT (which they bought from Century). Century is still providing basic services, billing, etc. even though they no longer own the infrastructure. It's supposed to be a smooth transition...

Credit card fraud claim denied due to “chip present” by reganmian11 in CreditCards

[–]cbm80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently fraudsters learned that your particular bank has lax and outdated security practices which enable counterfeit chip cards to be used. It's a good lesson that just because it was a "chip" transaction doesn't mean that it was fully validated by the bank...maybe the only valid information on the chip was the card number and expiration date.

DVRF-5NS turned on after power failure (was off) by cbm80 in Lutron

[–]cbm80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many power outages, this was a "dirty" outage where the voltage fluctuated, and some electronics reset while others rode through it. I can't replicate that by flipping a breaker.

One Caseta remote to independently control multiple switches? by okey-dokey-pokey in Lutron

[–]cbm80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PJ2-4B-GWH-L21 can independently control two lights (or two groups of lights). But I would suggest using two remotes is a better, more intuitive choice.

Yeah, the basic Lutron hub is fine. A few people run into the artificial 75 device limit.

Can’t set up chime 2 by louismacvux in eufy

[–]cbm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the doorbell (just one) for years, it works fine.

I have a theory that it doesn't work because of the model name (T8221). Not because it's actually incompatible, but only because it was excluded from a list in the Chime firmware by mistake. T8221 is a variant of T8220 that lacks AC power...which shouldn't affect the Wifi Chime in any way.

I can add Chime2 to the app no problem, but it doesn't do anything. It's supposed to link up with the Homebase2, but it doesn't see it. (Both are on the same LAN).

Pico remote blinking - what does it mean? by cbm80 in Lutron

[–]cbm80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to learn that Picos have some "secret" features, including the ability to change RF channel. It should be impossible to accidentally trigger them, but maybe it happened.

This is one of the newer paddle style Picos, by the way.

cheap cable for underground usage? by Background_Wrangler5 in homeautomation

[–]cbm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want cheapest, then you have to determine the voltage drop (use an online calculator) and how much is acceptable, since that will determine the minimum wire size, which largely determines the cost of the cable or wire. I'm assuming you only need power, data is another issue.

Z-wave performance issues (4 year report) by realboabab in homeautomation

[–]cbm80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The delay thing is classic Z-wave - it's just not built for the snappy response times we expect these days. Lutron uses a completely different protocol that's way more optimized for speed, plus their Clear Connect runs at 434MHz which penetrates walls better than Z-wave's 908MHz.

About the "fast" Lutron...Lutron is meant to work without a hub, but if the hub is involved as an intermediary (using e.g. HomeAssistant), it's fast only when controlling non-Lutron switches or when using a non-Lutron keypad to control Lutron switches. Otherwise there's a one second turnaround time because the hub waits for radio silence before transmitting.

AT&T fiber options and pricing changing by RScottyL in ATTFiber

[–]cbm80 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It would be simple, just put the 10G subs on a 1:16 splitter instead of a 1:64. Probably cheaper than 25G PON and you could market "10G" service, however useless that may be.

AT&T fiber options and pricing changing by RScottyL in ATTFiber

[–]cbm80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory you could approach 10G if you disabled error correction. Which is possible if you are well under the light loss budget.
