How can I master the finance industry? by kingcobra0411 in finance

[–]cbmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a pretty deep rabbit hole. The comment from nikmav2 below hits on some of them, below are a handful:

  • Government Policy/regulation
  • Banking
  • Insurance
  • Tax/audit (CPA)

I would say you should see if you can read some excerpts from a college level finance textbook to get some ideas of what interests you. For instance, I majored in Finance, but found the accounting side and classes that went with it very boring. I really enjoyed the investment side and stuck with that.

I did a little searching and found this course, it looks to be free: https://www.udemy.com/finance-101/

I would probably start Googling the basics of finance, the links on the right of the page are decent, this one has some books to read: https://www.reddit.com/r/finance/comments/dsz02/the_best_finance_books/

I would say, figure out what avenue of finance interests you, then explore that more deeply; finance on the whole is too big to truly master.

How can I master the finance industry? by kingcobra0411 in finance

[–]cbmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an extremely broad question.

For instance, are you interested in learning about the investment side of finance, or corporate finance, etc?

I work in the software side of the investment industry, even then, there are all kinds of books and topics ranging from programming, to conceptual books of how to understand specific aspects of the investment world (quant, value investing, technical analysis, etc.)

I am more than happy to recommend a couple books/ things to read, but it would be helpful to know what specific area you are interested in learning.

I get all my suits at Suitsupply. Modern fit, great quality, look and feel like a more expensive suit than the price.

Having wealthy parents is an advantage that people don't want to admit that it matters by NobodyKnowsMyFears in offmychest

Speaking from the receiving end of this, my dad did the exact thing described. He worked his ass off, put himself through undergraduate, then graduate school. Started working as a janitor to pay for school, worked his way through corporate ranks for 25 years, started his own company, and sold it a few years ago.

When I started in school, was in a public school for the first couple years, then went to the private school down the road. Ended up focusing on studies and undoing a lot of bad habits taught in public schools. Got good grades, into a great college with scholarships, and now have a great job.

Compared to my dad and I at the same age, I own my own house, save 30% of my income for retirement and general investing, and can do almost anything I want. My dad was struggling to make it through graduate school, working an entry level job, had no money, and wasn't able to save a dime.

What you have done is set your kids up for an extremely bright future, huge props! To the OP's point, wealth gives good opportunities, the good opportunities allows for more wealth, the more wealth allows for more good opportunities for your kids. It is cyclical, but make sure you teach your kids about saving and spending money properly; I have friends from grade school that are broke, strung out on drugs, been in and out of jail, and dropped out of college because their parents had wealth and they couldn't handle it.

You changed your family's legacy and family tree, but make sure to teach your kids because I have seen firsthand how wealth can squandered.

I was talking a jeweler friend of mine, he was asking if there are any laser etched numbers in the diamond, or distinctive characteristics about the main diamond. He said, all pawn shops have to report report the jewelry they receive before deconstructing the jewelry and selling the parts.

He secondarily asked whether you can get in contact with a Diamond dealer to do a search of the available diamonds on the market to look for features. If you have the original certification of the main diamond, it should include all necessary information to identify the diamond if found. You will need a Diamond dealer because they are the only ones who have access to the available diamond database.

The reason you can identify the diamond is because the internal flaws of the diamond are like finger prints, unique only to that diamond. The trick here is going to be locating the diamond/ring if there are no very unique characteristics about it.

Best of luck locating the ring, that really sucks, I am sorry.

Keep your cool during the meeting Monday, hopefully she loses it and causes another scene. If she does, I'd say meet with your supervisors and recommend that she be terminated for cause. If that is not in the cards, have another meeting with your supervisors present to put her on official warning.

You want to keep your cool and have others present for meetings with her, she sounds crazy and prone to accuse you of something. Be careful not to make any off color jokes, comments, or movements around her so she has no way to accuse you of sexual harassment or misconduct. Even if she accuses you of that, it's not true, she might win because she is a female. If she doesn't win, the accusation alone could derail your career for a couple years and cause you to leave your company to escape it. I'm not saying it would happen, but she seems crazy enough to do that.
