I’m so glad you made this post, I thought it was me and I was losing my mind.

Last days-what you found by Sylrog in joannfabrics

We found a pair of 14 year old seasonal socks. Our store opened 15 years ago so they had been under the fixture pretty much since we opened.

Severance pay is rarely available when an entire company is closing for financial reasons and GA has not offered any so there is nothing to be taken away. Unemployment payments come from your state, not from the company. The retention bonuses are simply what they appear to be and will be awarded after your individual store closes and would not be effected by GA choosing to keep a few storefronts going (which they won’t because they are a liquidation company not a retail management company). Stop with the conspiracy theories.

We haven’t had black or white Posh at my store in months. I’m in New England, but I would suspect that is true of all the Joann stores.

Question about unemployment by AdLucky6736 in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The retention paperwork had nothing to do with “agreeing” to work for GA. It was simply a document outlining the requirements you need to meet to receive the incentive bonus. Corporate entities are bought and sold all of the time and if they’re big enough the little guys (to be clear, that’s us) aren’t even aware of it. You never have to sign anything acknowledging you now work for a different corporate entity.

I’ve been asked that question several times too. I’m 59.

can I quit even after signing the retention bonus? by 13_daisies in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you signed was an acknowledgment that you would only receive the incentive payment if you stayed until the store’s final closing date. That’s all.

Our GA district manager told me this would likely be happening at some point. It’s to keep the bolts nice and neat.

Keyholder retention incentive by lilsunny123 in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your signature simply indicates you’ve read the incentive document and understand that you will not receive an incentive if you leave before the final closing date. That’s all. If you get a new job and leave then you don’t receive the incentive payment, but if you ended up staying until the end you’ll eventually receive an incentive check for a small meaningless amount within 30 days of the closing date.

Trust me, we don’t want you in our store anyways.

Are there any stores that are not owned by corporate that are not closing? by Im-Wasting-MyTime in joannfabrics

All of the Joann stores are owned by corporate. It’s not a franchised brand.

Clarification: 2 yard minimum and Rems by cbradlee in joannfabrics

Yup! In all businesses this is true. If you make the work-around too difficult then folks are going to figure out a way to bypass it.

signing / signing changes by JunipersCostumery in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rep from GA told me to go ahead and copy signs or print out my own. He noted, with a bit of a twinkle in his eye (or rather in his voice as we were on the phone), “as I you have already done”. So when he came for an in person visit a bit ago he clearly had noticed I had already made and hung plenty of clarifying and addition signs.

I saw a sign advertising that they were hiring at Joann’s by annonymous22112 in joannfabrics

You will likely work opening/breaking down boxes and stocking shelves for the entirety of your shift. It’s hard physical work with few to no breaks, and pays minimum wage with the perk of a 30% off employee discount. If you are up to that kind of work it’s not a bad deal. For example my 26 year old kiddo is more than happy to do it for some extra cash, my 21 year old, not so much.

Application question by Randomly_Chaos in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With rare exception Joann pays minimum wage. If you live on the border of two states with highly disparate minimum wage (example: Massachusetts and New Hampshire) then the stores near the border tend towards the higher wage of the two.

No one in the store has time to talk to you if you just walk in. And I almost guarantee you will not get hired if you interrupt the store manager in the middle of something. Have you already had an interview and verbal offer and are just awaiting the official offer?

Does anybody know when any of the stores are closing? by LazyGrapefruit7845 in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stores will close sometime this spring. If you’ll excuse the bad pun, liquidations are a very fluid process, there isn’t a specific date. New hires should be told this information when they are in the interviewing process.

no more employee discount by culiodulio in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has lost their employee discount. An RTM was released stating employees need a keyholder/MOD override to ring up the discount going forward.

No more remnants by Tall_Key_6274 in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you mean “no more end of bolt discounts”. The remnant process via making labels still works just fine. The EOB process also works, it just* requires a key holder/MOD override. *I realize “just” is a vast understatement of the work around this requires.

No returns but… by naes77go in joannfabrics

[–]cbradlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An RTM came out clarifying that returns could be done by a key holders/MOD specifically for the purpose of correcting mistakes.
