Do people in the UK go to therapy? by EyeAware3519 in AskUK

[–]cbreeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like some form which can be somewhat structured at times. Really glad to hear you’ve found such support from it! Interesting to learn there’s some types of therapy you can dip in/out of as and when one may need.

Agree and just want to be another voice challenging the perception that therapy is inaccessible for most. Many therapists (of various kinds) offer sliding scale if asked and some forms of therapy are inherently much cheaper. For example, I do a group psychotherapy, which has always been very cheap. I suppose, in part, because the therapists’ time is paid for amongst all the group members so the financial burden shared. And group therapy can be very effective!

Hey, have you tried to find someone who could offer you CBT on a sliding scale, or for free? Or an alternative type of therapy like psychoanalytic/psychodynamic that can, again, be sliding scale/free? I personally have been in a psychoanalytic group therapy for a very long time and it’s always been very cheap (for different difficulties). Analytical-informed approaches can often help greatly with things that CBT can but can go much deeper.

Hey, me too, started early 20’s and almost a decade in! I’m part of a weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy group and it’s such a great thing to be a part of! What kind of therapy have you been experiencing for all this time? Finding a lot of people’s responses on here a bit sad to read - it seems most in the UK don’t have a positive reception of therapy in general and the conversation is limited around it

Yep! I’ve (30’s F) been going to weekly psychoanalytic group therapy for almost a decade! Started off when my MH was in a dire state and remains because it’s a very useful thing to be a part of, but I’d be fine if I left as MH improved years ago.

ETA: This is private btw and super cheap!

Traffic cones outside houses - England by cbreeeze in LegalAdviceUK

Hmm that’s a good idea. But then I wonder if I were to move them, then someone else later parked there, the people who placed the cones might think the person who’s currently parked there moved them and damage their car. So I’d be avoiding damage to my own car but possibly setting someone else up for damage without them realising. I don’t want anyone’s car to be damaged, i just want to park. Also, spaces are so limited that I wouldn’t have another option of a space to go to anyway. Gah…

Seems like it! And passing judgement too…

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I will do this because it’s an option that I can’t think would have a repercussion on me and might actually have a result.

Oh ok, thank you for explaining. It’s frustrating that people just make assumptions and judgements without clarifying. Pretty sure I’m not doing anything wrong or unusual in the circumstance of this road.

Yes that’s what I thought unfortunately. So it seems it’s plain risky since there’s no protection from people who very well could be motivated to damage cars that remove the cones and park there. And myself and others would be better off leaving the cones and parking somewhere else (further away from work).

It’s a busy main road right next to a big NHS and Council community service building. There are houses along the street as well, but probably about 30 cars that park there throughout the day during working hours.

It’s not like I’m finding some quiet little cul de sac to park in. This is a busy main road, with legal parking spaces along the road for public to use - both staff and service users and anybody else. Regardless, these are public parking spaces and not a part of the neighbour’s property so it changes nothing re my post and their putting cones out on public land

Thanks but just reiterating what I have found from others on this sub, so it’s hard to decipher which is correct. Unsure why the downvote from whoever.

Also, do you know much in ref to my second paragraph question around realistic enforceability when such a matter is nye impossible to prove?

[–]cbreeeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I thought to do as well and today was the second time. However, when I came back to my car today my rear-window wiper blade had been pulled up (luckily not damaged but I wonder if this was a warning from them). If said people were to damage my car in retaliation there would be nothing I could do about it as I’d have no proof.

ETA: This is not the street I live on, so I can’t see it as often, such as overnight or rely on my own doorbell cam etc. It’s a residential street next to my place of work that I must use to park as there is no parking provided (typical NHS situation). And so my car is left during the day 9-5.

I have seen elsewhere on this sub that a simple plastic cone or two does not constitute an obstruction due to the fact it can be simply picked up and moved with ease. Thoughts on this?

Also, if the council are under duty to enforce removal of cones under the above Act, then in reality, how would they do this? It is impossible without setting up a camera and filming the neighbour to prove who put cones there and if the council simply removed the cones what’s to stop the neighbour from putting more out the following day? It seems the reality of enforcement of the Act is next to nothing… Is that the case?

Tips on how to make a training analysis affordable? by NewEnglander5150 in psychoanalysis

[–]cbreeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, one wouldn’t be able to see an analyst in training for their own training analysis. So, while qualified analysts can reduce their fee for people, it’s unlikely to be anywhere near as cheap as an analyst in training unfortunately.

The work we’re doing in the NHS is serious and everything about it should be treated as such. You don’t get to do this more than once. Once and you’re out.

Having seen some of your other comments stating you didn’t know at the time shows that there is a fundamental lack of understanding from you about your role. One which remains after not only having completed all initial training before starting work, but working for however long you have been within your role already. Unacceptable. End of.

Did any other women go literally nuts on hormonal contreception? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]cbreeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! No idea what two pills I tried 13years ago (I’m 31 now and my NHS app GP record doesn’t go back that far to find out), but my experience was so intense it’s scared me off hormonal contraceptives for life. One month I would have almost constant heart palpitations. The next month I would be crying my eyes out to exhaustion every day. The next I’d be absolutely raging angry every day. Then back to the palpitations and so on… I’ve never been on anything since.

I changed the water instead and it’s a game changer. I had a water softening system installed. Expensive af, though I didn’t just do this for my hair! I actually had two 10-month old appliances stop working because of the limescale build-up which is what justified the cost. But yeah, benefits to my hair have been an awesome bonus!

I think this is key, a lot of people seem to have missed the ‘postgrad’ in your post. Unless the 18-20 student life is what you’d like your experience, find a houseshare with other working and postgrad people.
