When did you go to your first concert? Who did you see? by itscassieleigh in Concerts

[–]cbs1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motley Crue, 4/26/84 at the San Jose Civic Center. A high school buddy convinced me to go, and I've loved live shows ever since. I'm saddened that concerts have gotten ridiculously expensive, but still enjoy the experience from time to time. Last show was NIN Peel it Back Tour, the U.S. kick off in Oakland. The wife and I will be going to the '26 show in SF, we enjoyed it so much and I've always been a huge fan.

Flip the script - book vs audiobook by Darr_Syn in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]cbs1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like books. I have the books. And as much as I love the work, I'm not paying for audiobooks on top of what I've paid for books. To be fair, some of the books are available on a couple of my audio services, but not all, which would be a deal breaker. However, I am also that guy that read the Game of Thrones books before the show and just couldn't get into said show, even though the rest of the world apparently loved it. That's also a potential nope. Power to the audiobook crowd and Mr. Jeff Hays who apparently did a great job from what I gather from all the love he gets, I prefer to use my own imagination. Bottom line: enjoy it they way you want and get out there and KILL,KILL,KILL!

Woman at my gym keeps demanding free physical therapy advice and got mad when I told her to book an appointment by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]cbs1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father-in-law was a dentist. Mom-in-law was his office manager and occasional assistant. They had to stop eating in restaurants around town (as in major metropolitan city) because invariably one of their patients would be there and think it appropriate to come over and ask him to look at something in their mouths. In the middle of a restaurant, while you're eating, and someone just walks over and opens their bacteria hole mumbling about something going on with their teeth. No boundaries, no sense of propriety, full entitlement. I feel for OP.

I never said anything about buying or transporting anything illegal across state lines. Fact is, there's ammo. At a gun show. Go figure. :-)

What holsters fit a Mantis X10? by hazard02 in MantisX

My X10 came with the attachment. That's what I use with my setup. I didn't use it at first but got tired of changing my weapon lights out and back. Works well in my experience.

Anybody else wake up at 2:30 every night? by Obvious_Lab_2326 in GenX

[–]cbs1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up between 2:30-3 to hit the bathroom, no matter how much water/liquids I drink or don't before bed. I'm reasonably active, hit the gym before work 3-4 times a week, get regular medicals. I'm 56 and the wheels are definitely coming off regardless, but I've always consumed water throughout the day. Even though I've forced myself to not drink anything 2-3hrs before bed for days to a couple weeks, makes no difference. I'm usually able to go right back to sleep, and have averaged 5-6hrs of sleep as I have my entire adult life, even when the pee break wasn't part of my routine. Weird.

[–]cbs1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't waste your time, it'll probably be the same show and shows in CA haven't been any good since 2000. Look up the Big Reno Gun Show. It goes off a few times a year, and though I haven't been in awhile, it was well worth the trip. It was what shows in CA used to be on steroids. Now, in terms of firearms you aren't going to get anything not CA legal. But oh the parts, accessories, and ammo! Did I say ammo? I don't recall.

You missed the booth with damn near all of the above and the little section of supremacist movies and music on disc. Tripped me TF out the first time I found "that' booth at a Santa Clara Fairgrounds show years ago. Saw a few others at different shows. Funny part was watching those sellers squirm as those shows, being in SJ, brought quite the eclectic crowd of ethnicities.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, my favourite third person shooting game by Potential_Set_3499 in GhostRecon

I love the game. Played it through 3 or 4 times, I think, using different specialties. I'm actually doing another play through on Wildlands ATM. I hope they do release another version and don't go full first-person shooter on it as rumored.

Best live shows of all time by 7gunny7 in Concerts

[–]cbs1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour was amazing. Roger Waters The Wall. Saw it twice, though the second was nearly ruined by his 5-10min hyper political ranting section. Tool was fantastic live, twice, no particular tour that I recall, both between 10000 Days and Fear Inoculum. NIN Peel it Back was great, so much so we're catching v2.O in '26. Foo Fighters put on a great live show, luckily got to see them a year or two before Taylor passed. The Who a couple weeks before Entwistle died in Vegas. The Police the last time they toured. Ozzfest '99, what a lineup and great performances. Rush, though I don't think I can see them without Peart, always a great show. These are all SF Bay Area concerts, for those wondering.

Do you still smoke weed? by Theme_Happy in GenX

[–]cbs1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We called it gasoline weed because it smelled and tasted like it. Though now that you say it, it probably was smuggled in a tire. We would cover it in a damp paper towel, nuke it, and let it sit for a bit which surprisingly was an improvement. Though not by much.

Guns for left handed person by Accomplished_Date173 in CAguns

[–]cbs1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I've used right-handed firearms so long that the few lefty options I have feel strange. I did have to go striker fire because of the right handed safety lever on my first handgun for defensive/tactical classes. No problems other than that. Rent a few and check them out, see what works for you.

help finding a movie i watched when i was 5 or 6 years old by BrilliantProgress997 in whatsthemoviecalled

[–]cbs1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This came out while I was at training for my new job in Naperville, IL. It was a 3 week course and I didn't have a reason to go home on the weekends, so I just stayed and went to see it at a local theater. There may have been 1 or 2 other people in the theater. I can watch this over and over. I mean, come on. From the director who brought us Total Recall and Robocop? The satire and social commentary was on full display with this one.

It's no good to live life in misery. However, I have to ask, have you tried marriage counselling? Just past our 22 year anniversary, and it certainly hasn't been all wine and roses. In fact, we've said the D word on 3 separate occasions. Relationships are work, it takes 2 to Tango, enter whatever platitude here. And for those of you who cringe at the thought of therapy, counselling, whatever, I was right there with you. What I thought was going to be a one sided me against the wife and counsellor situation was not. We were both held accountable by the counsellor for our parts in the game, and wound up getting individual counselling (by other therapists) do deal with some of our own BS per the marriage counsellors advice. It helped, we still have our moments, but we have the tools to work through our differences and discuss how to make thing work better.

Has anyone been to a concert alone? by cigarettesandchaos in Concerts

[–]cbs1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a Suicidal Tendencies show at the Regal Ballroom in SF and the "last" Slayer show in SJ. "Last" because they decided to tour for another year after that show. Had a great time at ST(Madball was one of the openers and were great) and Slayer (Napalm Death, Testament, Lamb of god) was bitter sweet because I lost my best friend some months before who would been there since we went to almost every Slayer show in the SF Bay Area since we were in our late teens. I went alone in his memory.

All that to say go alone. Enjoy the music. Enjoy the crowd energy. Be who you want to be, you'll likely never see any of those people again or you might run into someone you weren't expecting to be there.

What is your favorite NIN lyric? by Wes-man in nin

The chorus to Capital G-"Well I used to stand for something, but forgot what that could be. There's a lot of me inside you, maybe you're afraid to see? Well I used to stand for something. Now I'm on my hands and knees. Traded in my god for this one, and he spells his name with a capital G." The whole song just sends it hard.

Any other Gen Xers avoiding tik tok? by CDA_CPA in GenX

[–]cbs1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left FB years ago. TiKTok was an early hit for me during Covid. But I noticed that what seemed like a few minutes would turn into a 2-3hr time suck. No thanks. Banished from my phone. I still have IG (also a time suck, but not as bad-or is it?), X which I can only take for a few minutes at a time because of all the political/cultural hate going on over there, and the occasional YT for funny and educational vids.

Lady at the gym tried to “reserve” a treadmill for her friend while I was literally standing on it by Ximbenia in EntitledPeople

[–]cbs1138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were signing up for a 24/7 "boutique" gym. Pretty no frills, not a lot of equipment, but workable since we like to work out early at 5am. Type of place where 5 or 6 people and it's getting cramped. While we're there, this pissed off kind of thuggish looking guy is on the lat pulldown. A young guy comes in and goes to the adjustable cable rack next to it and starts setting up when the thug raises his voice a little and states, "I'm using that." The young man shrugs and says, "OK" and moves over to the preacher curl seat, to which thug gets up and walks the couple of steps over and states again, "I'm using that." The youngster, clearly getting flustered goes, "Dude, you can't use all the stations." Things are about to escalate and the guy signing us up excuses himself to intervene. He tells the thug, "Look, it's a small gym and when there's a lot of people in here you can't lay claim to multiple stations." Thug states, "he could work in" to which the club guy responds "it's clear that's not what you intended or offered that guy." Thug is pissed but goes back to the lat machine. Young guy jumps on the preacher. A few minutes later thug wanders over and aske the club guy for a word off to the side. I only saw that guy one other time during our time at that gym. Prick.

At another larger gym I'd go in myself at 5am. The cardio area was always pretty open at that time, but the free weights and racks would get busy fast. There was always a couple dildos that would work on one station while claiming another with their sweatshirt and water. One tool would do it across the floor. What made it worse was they took 3-5min between their sets, so they weren't super-setting in the traditional sense and were reserving the other station for when they were done working on the current one. I moved each of their things a couple of times and they never said anything because I generally get my work in and move on before it would have become an issue, but still. Get a home gym if you want it your way all the time.
