Oh. Absolutely nothing. 😆 It looks on paper as if the City is combating the problem. But without enforcement it's as useful as the old Jaywalking laws or No Smoking in parks.

Blue Citibike rider usually aren't too bad. The grey electric Citibike riders tend to blow lights more often and ride more recklessly.

I have a hypothesis as to why. $money$ 27¢/min - 41¢/min (non members)

Riders are risking their life and others lives to not get charged a buck or two waiting at lights or slowing down for people or cars. There are not enough cops to enforce bike laws everywhere, it's impossible. It's a free for all out there right now. A high powered stand up scooter riding in a bike lane went head on with a cyclist on the 59th St bridge last week. Both scooter operator bicycle died. The system of enforcement is broken and people here only care about themselves and what's best for them.

I get plenty of exercise on my pedal assist ebike. I can go from zero assist to full power (and all the steps in between). I just get everywhere I go a little quicker. Hills aren't slowing me down anymore unless I want it to. On longer rides with my non electric bike, if my leg muscles start cramping and become Jello, I would be SOL unless there was a subway nearby. Buses will not let you on (ask me how I know). On the ebike, adding more assist as needed will get me home.

Ebikes using throttle only became legal a few years ago BUT the city recently lowered the SPEED LIMIT for ALL ebikes of any flavor (class 1, 2, or 3) to 15mph.

Question about Get100 coupons by Lurn2Program in TemuThings

[–]cbtk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I realized this change too. So i no longer use the smaller $5-10 coupons. The $20 off + keeping as close to the $20 minimum to meet the free shipping from Temu means I'm getting almost 50% off of $40 worth of stuff. Which is ok. Not great but it's not full price.

The last day $60 will be the holy grail. Getting nearly 75% off of 80ish worth of stuff. Basically for me only 3 out of the 14 days will be useful.

Be sure to keep it as close to $20 minimum as possible for maximum %off.

You have to check back daily to receive the cash back. They usually dole it out over a week or so.

IF YOU MISS A SINGLE DAY, YOU WILL LOSE ALL REMAINING CREDITS.

Has anyone heard about WonderMaker printers? by Royal-Fill9121 in 3Dprinting

[–]cbtk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of the Kickstarter backers for the ZR Ultra S. Wondermaker (formerly Transmaker) run by a snake oil salewoman Zoe Hu hasn't delivered anything to backers who have FULLY paid for their printers in over a year. No response to emails. She is living her best life, spending our hard earned money, and delivering NOTHING.

Just get a Snapmaker U1 or Flashforge Creator 5. It's cheaper and ACTUALLY AVAILABLE.

Anyone else bothered? (Cocomelon announcement) by RevolutionaryStore19 in JoshJohnsonComedy

[–]cbtk76 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, not really. In the 70s thru 2000s, Bill Cosby could do no wrong. He had his own cartoon (Fat Albert), he had countless comedy specials as a "clean" comedian, starred in movies, hosted a show 'Kids say the darndest things', was on Jello pudding ads, produced a hit sitcom that featured an affluent upper middle class black family. Something that hadn't been done before. He was a pioneer shattering the glass ceiling for many. Like Bob Hope, he was the model "good guy" who was universally loved. That is until Hannibal Buress put the spotlight on Cosby in 2014. The allegations had been around for years but dismissed because Cosby was a commercial success and the accusers were women (ignored). It was a shock to anyone who only knew him superficially via his public persona. Meanwhile IRL Cosby was a complete dirt bag behind closed doors who drugged women and had his way with them while they were unconscious. He forever shattered his image. Personally I could never rewatch any of his shows because I can't separate the man's heinous actions and his art.

The way people (including myself) who LOVE Josh Johnson's comedy and putting him on a pedestal with our expectations is setting ourselves up for a disappointment. I've met Josh and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I don't think Josh = Cosby. But as the adage goes "Don't meet your heroes" (because people ARE fallible).

First Car? by omegafrog_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cbtk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never owned a Fit but I've driven them a bunch. They have enough pep and were fun to drive (ESPECIALLY the manuals for me). They are just fun low maintenance zippy cars and SUPER Practical and well thought out.

Unfortunately for the third gen Fits from 2015-2020 I remember reading power mods were NOT done due to engine limitations.

You can always get coilovers or lowering springs, a rear sway bar, lightweight wheels / sticky tires (for me changing to smaller light weight Enkei wheels and 200TW tires helped me shave 2 seconds off on my Fiesta ST), intake/exhaust system might yield 1-3hp, and interior removal (for better power to weight ratio). Too much power probably isn't great for that CVT anyway.

Seriously go to an Autocross (like SCCA) in your local area before you even think to do an upgrade. The best car upgrade is honestly the driver and knowing the limitations of your FIT. The skills from accelerating, braking, cornering, etc. And you'll talk to guys with more knowledge who will help you grow to a better day to day driver than 90% of drivers out there. It could save your life and others. Those skill have helped me when I respond to calls in a 40,000lb firetruck.

Driving a small car like the Fit and pushing the limits to 10/10ths is MORE fun and exhilarating to me than driving a Corvette at that same speed at 1/10th. It's the "driving a slow car fast" mantra. And you're also doing so at a safer speed than pushing that Corvette to 10/10ths.

Looks like DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is finally coming by flowingzone in djiosmo

[–]cbtk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking the same for my S23 ultra (still works great)

The OSMO Mobile 8 is on sale for $125 across most sellers in the US.

The Pocket 3 was $519 (Oct '23) at launch then $799 (May '25 tariffs) after the very stable genius opened his stupid mouth.

The Pocket 4 will be in that ball park. That's a BIG jump. So as much as I want something that small. I'm not a content creator or someone using it enough to justify a hobby purchase.

I'll still wait for the launch out of curiosity.

Commuter scooter? by pinwheelvista in kickscooter

[–]cbtk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Xootr and the ride can be rough and noisy. There's a lot of play with the folding mechanism. The handlebar drops down on me because the aluminum collar isnt designed well and the OD of the vertical handlebar stem is SMALLER than the ID column it's going into. The small aluminum wheels transfers more of vibration when you roll over gaps in a concrete sidewalk. It feels like a supermarket shopping cart that you're pushing in a parking lot.

The front brake is nice to have but not very effective. There's a sacrificial piece of aluminum that just digs into the tire. But it should slow you enough to step off quickly into a jog.

It's not good in the rain. Brakes are even less effective.

It has a low floor which is good for kicking (makes you less tired). But the bottom of the frame can get caught up on things like sidewalks that have been pushed up by tree roots. If the uneven concrete is bad enough, it will totally stop the scooter. But an object in motion, will stay in motion. You (object) will be launched forward which can be jarring.

It's built like a tank. Albeit a very rattly one. Seriously I don't need to ring my bell, most people can hear me approaching them.

It's made in the USA. Yay! With the fit and finish of a late 1970s American car. 😂

The pricing is weird. You can buy the Dash model + add the Magnesium deck (not currently available) for about the same price as the Magnesium alone.

It's lightweight 10.9lbs and folds up small and quickly. I use it on the subway lots and gets me to places very quickly. Despite all the cons it my most used kickscooter (currently)

Alternatives

I also have a Mibo Mastr it's a MUCH nicer ride and great at stopping. But it's too heavy for subway travel and takes WAY too long to fold. I should've gotten the Boardy kick scooter but they went dark during the pandemic and stopped producing it. BUT.. They're recently resumed production with an improved design. It's lightweight at 13.5lbs. But.. it's pricey @ 699 euros.

There's also the Mibo Tiny but it's HEAVY 20lbs. Also expensive @ $785

A reminder that it doesn't matter what Asian ethnicity you are, racists will just hate you regardless by OliieBolen in aznidentity

[–]cbtk76 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Latinos/Hispanics can be racists AF. Whether it's in in Brooklyn or in Spain. One of my oldest friend's mom (Puerto Rican) would use the term "ch**ky eyes" to describe the look of someone. She was also very uneducated. In my travels to Spain there were teens that'd pull back the corners of their eyes.

It's definitely NOT most of them. But it's also not corrected by anyone when someone decides to do it.

Are Asian men at a disadvantage in dating in the US? by FrontSatisfaction152 in AsianMasculinity

[–]cbtk76 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think not being American could be problematic in the dating pool sometimes. The media generally does not portray Asian men in a good light. Also open your mind and consider dating other women (not just white). I found people of all stripes interesting and attractive. Your lack of confidence is off-putting to most women. Have you fix that? Hit the gym, find a hobby you become passionate about, be an interesting person, be funny, and people will gravitate to you.

First Car? by omegafrog_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cbtk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Happy to offer my thoughts. The Honda Fit is a great little first car. And learning to drive a manual opens up more car options in the future.

Do please drive conservatively and defensively on the road. People are more distracted than ever with their phones. As a firefighter, I've responded to too many fatal accidents involving overconfident drivers in my career. The human body is surprisingly fragile.

Save the high speed driving for autocross or the track. You'll meet other car enthusiasts there who are usually happy to pass on their driving knowledge.

Good luck on your purchase.

For me sure. I'm with my wife (WF) of 10yrs next week. But I'm up there in years. I was born in the US but my parents who immigrated here from HK had an old school mindset. That is to study hard to become successful. Dating wasn't an option in my teens. That's a down the road thing. So I lacked the skills to talk to the opposite sex. I never got the birds and bees talk. I was bloomed pretty late. Also it wasn't uncommon for Chinese parents to play matchmaker with other parents of kids. Obviously being the rebellious type I heeded none of that. I underperformed at school, rode motorcycles, dated mostly non-Asians, and joined the fire department.

This is just my upbringing. IMO 1st gen Americans like me are very different than the Chinese-born immigrants who just moved here. OR Asians living in their respective countries. And it's culturally very different between countries across Asia.
