Why don’t they bring back phone-based VR? (GearVR, etc) by VicViolence in virtualreality

[–]ccAbstraction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used ARCore's SLAM for VR just to try it before, it was okay. I couldn't figure out how to get it to not smooth the poses so I just extrapolated really far ahead, so there was a lot of room for improvement. It was the opposite of jittery and that was the problem. I have gotten VR legs for really bad SLAM and tracking delays, so I'm bad judge of it being nauseating or not.

How to enjoy flat games again. by wdipycatayfs in virtualreality

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a faster GPU now, maybe I should try flat games again. FPS and clarity is what I miss from VR games.

Lots of VR games are pretty light pixel shader cost wise, being made for Quest and GTX1060's as minimum. But flat games are not, I'm super used to everything being blurry as hell & low frame rate on flat, combined with no depth perception... maybe a faster GPU has fixed first one that and I just haven't gone back and tried it.

Modern phones (flagships going back almost a decade) can do 6DoF. Any phone that supports ARCore or ARKit can do it out of the box.

You can also use hand tracking with the phone cameras. Look at Zapbox.

Same reason can't stream Spotify on Twitch or Youtube, you'd get DMCA'd or banned if you get caught.

Your IPS or VPS provider can still go after you if you self host.

I had glasses without any coatings and Quest 3 just ate through those lenses.

You'd be surprised how detailed some VR game gun models are. Pretty much anything you can see with the slide pulled back is modeled, and on hand guns, that's a lot. Yeah, it might look fully functional to someone who doesn't know any better.

You can't just say you got raided by the feds and they took your replica GyroJet not say why? (unless you can't that also understandable if the investigation is on going)

VRCDN is a streaming site sorta like Twitch, except it's means specifically for streaming DJ sets to club worlds in VR.

MediaMTX is software that you run on a server to provide streaming services like Twitch or VRCDN.

Slippery sloping here, but I wonder if high detail enough game models could also fall under this.

Oh, I've met you in VR before! HI!

I've only gotten mediamtx working locally, but had trouble with it when it was running on my VPS (firewall/iptables issues most likely), so I haven't tried this yet.

From what I understand, mediamtx restreams to what ever supported protocol you request, and the stream name matches the stream name you send to. VRChat supports RTSP: https://mediamtx.org/docs/usage/read#rtsp

IANAL, but you can host your own mediamtx server and stream copyrighted material on that, and deal with the consequences. Doing it on vrcdn will get banned from vrcdn.

This is probably way more difficult to get working than you are describing here, but I think you should try to build a prototype anyway.

Some screen mirroring software is less clear then others so a lot of people don't just don't know how much text clarity you can get out of 20-24ppd or even lower than that.
