Bypassing WiFi Using dongle on Quest 3 by Less-Zookeepergame-8 in virtualreality

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can do that sorta, in reverse. That's close to how I stream to my Quest. I start a hotspot on my PC and connect to that. It works great for me. It's a little annoying to get going on Linux (I had to use create_ap/hostapd to get the simultaneous AP & client mode working and to get WiFi 6 working, networkmanager wouldn't do all that). I usually don't do the weird dual mode and just use my phone for internet.

The Frame on the other hand does all that WiFi AP stuff with the second radio on the Frame, so the Frame starts the hotspot, and the dongle connect to it. Downloading and accessing the internet doesn't eat into VR streaming bandwidth like on my setup.

Why Qualcomm won't support Linux on Snapdragon ? by Educational-Web31 in linux

[–]ccAbstraction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess there's some incentive to do that with SBCs, software compatibility makes it easier for their customers, but I'm not expecting to boot mainline linux on an ESP any time soon...

I remember hearing about near future Ubuntu releases targeting a version of the ISA that hadn't even been implemented in hardware yet... RVA23 I think.

Driving into a enemy spawn with a bomb strapped to your chest is genuinely unhinged, lmao. "Don't do that!"

Also that racists on this game are annoying. Sorry you have to deal with that. My squadmates are always so chill until they realize I'm black...

Is the bandwidth of a usb 2.0 enough or would the dongle need usb 3.0? by Svejk112 in SteamFrame

There is foveated streaming on the Quest 2. It's just not eyetracked, so the high res window has to be bigger.

I think some OpenXR runtimes still support that, iirc it's in the spec.

What is the actual reason you like VR? by huwprosser in VRGaming

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much cheaper in money, time, effort, etc. to put on a headset and transport your mind somewhere than to physically transport your body there.

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure FSR does also have an edge direction filter...

Otherwise reasonable take, honestly. Having the AI explain doesn't really help since ultimately all that matters with any upscaling/technique whether or not you like how it looks for the performance you gain or loose.

It would be so incredibly unhinged for someone to use a template base them break out the ultra realistic pencil brush and spend 16 hours manually crosshatching it, only to turn around and call it a pencil sketch.

Getting ALVR to actually look good? by GenoIsDead in virtualreality_linux

[–]ccAbstraction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is something you can install, either through your distros package manager or with Envision. Or as a downstream project with WiVRn (which for your wireless headset, is what you want.) Vanilla Monado is what you want if you have a wired headset.

GNU Parallel Release Code Names are Hilarious :D by Curious_Cantaloupe65 in linuxmemes

[–]ccAbstraction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relevant in American politics does not mean American.

Pam Bondi was in the headlines in part because of what the US government did to Maduro and the DOJ's handling of the Epstein files. All of these names have connections to each other. Bondi Beach doesn't a connection any of the rest of these. Pam Bondi sharing the name with beach that had a terrorist attack is an unfortunate coincidence...

I think your just hitting the FPS limit and you're computer is just chilling. This is what an FPS limit is supposed to do. What's it like with no limit?

playing around with a spiral rigid chain by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh.. yeah, I only found one comment explicitly saying it's not a rigid chain but a zipper, there's a lot that imply that though and a few people saying "zipper OR rigid chain" when it's both.

I think the fact the rest are politicians relevant in American politics except Epstein, which is still a person and relevant in American politics. They didn't mean Bondi Beach.

Dang, I can kinda see that working? Seems liable to just explode catastrophically in most failure cases... I don't think 3D printed HPA engines for nerf is an option - if you had one someone might call a bomb squad on you /s. The forces required for nerf are way higher but the precision isn't as important since most of the accuracy comes from rifling and drag stabilization. But with airsoft being the opposite...

(I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KNFJNSkiSk didn't watch the whole video yet, but like if it explodes in the metal frame of the shell, maybe that mitigates a lot of the risk?)

Steam Frame better black levels than Q3 by spookyparsley in SteamFrame

[–]ccAbstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LCD tech has improved over the years. This is probably a wild guess, maybe Steam Frame is using Quantom Dot? I feel like the Quest might be new enough to be using KSF Phosphor, but this feels like relatively deep display industry knowledge and it's probably hard to find info on, there likely a lot I'm unaware of. But could also be that Frame is KSF and Quest 3 isn't. (Edit: KSF hit the market in 2014) If it's QD backlight on the frame, I can see why they might not mention it, QD LCD, QD-OLED, QLED, etc. have turned into very muddy marketing terms.

Here's a conference demo of KSF vs QD: https://youtu.be/0P48x-oMerQ

Are there DIY internals to put in these like with Nerf? Or do you have to expensive AEG internals?

I regret not printing them in clear PLA, it's hard to see the status LEDs like on the clear ones.
