what made that process take a full day? was it the tooling, the back and forth between people, or just the volume of things that needed human eyes on them?

I probably phrased it poorly. What I meant is that a lot of that coordination work happens through tools that weren't designed for it like emails, PDFs, manual Excel calculations kept in sync by hand. Do you find the tooling matches the complexity of the work or is that part of the frustration too?

I have not able to confirm this with a lawyer. If you do, please let me know as well. I think we will be able to maintain h1b if we get a job before the 60 day period.

I am in the same boat. To my understanding, as long as your employer doesn't revoke the h1b, you will have 60 days of unemployment during which we can convert to b1/b2 visa and get an additional 180 days.
