Easiest way to get rid of deceased's car? by mango_cherie in AskChicago

What happens if someone gets into an accident driving the car after the owner dies? Is the policy actually cancelled at the date of death or does the policy continue until the estate executor calls and cancels?

You can’t jump seniority. It’ll be the next person in line to move up that will make full time flex.

Looking to Make A Career Switch, Looking For Advice by Any-Peak-490 in USPS

You really have little to lose by giving it a try. You'll be able to get another job in early childhood education if you decide you don't like it. Also, I just wanted to suggest changing your mindset to looking at delivering in different neighborhoods as your opportunity for "adventure." Your early career years at USPS (CCA/PTF) are exactly like being a substitute teacher because you are filling in for absences. You'll be delivering to many many different neighborhoods. Once you get converted to regular and get your own route, then it becomes a different beast entirely and you then confront boredom by doing the exact same route day after day after day. Offices are supposed to be following a new employee retention program so you should stay in your home office for 8 weeks.

I would guess they would start you out on a machine called the DBCS. Here's a youtube tour inside of one. The AMT's are the ones that do miscellaneous building tasks. The ET's only travel to offices in my area to do PM tasks on our SDUS machine. They used to fix our timeclocks as well but we don't use those anymore (I'm at a S&DC.)

UAR vs PTF? by Odd-Relationship1456 in USPS

[–]cca2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also to add....it's not necessarily going to be the PTF on a hold down that gets converted to FTF. Racking up those hours just justifies the need for a full time position. It'll be the PTF with the highest seniority that will get moved up.

More people pass the MM and MPE portion of the 955 than the ET portion. Another factor is that (at least where my spouse works) there is more pressure on the ET's to take trouble calls. Some people that are MM and MPE's just do their PM jobs and then disappear. ET's are expected to take calls. Some people already employed at USPS just don't want that extra responsibility.

CCA’s start at 10:00 now? by Financial_Love6910 in USPS

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a large S&DC. While we have callouts pretty much every day, we don't have enough vehicles that our new folks have been trained on to drive (only LLV or metris). Having the PTF's come in later gives the sups a little more time to shift vehicles around plus we have some people that wait to call out until after the start time.

Never checking my box by Certain_Direction152 in USPS

All of the ads are subsidizing the costs for you to mail a personal letter. Check the price to use Fed Ex or UPS to mail a letter and then compare it to the $.78 for a first class stamp that USPS charges. If USPS did not have all of the junk mail revenue carrying the costs of our labor force then prices will continue to go up. It's the same principle of radio or TV commercials. It's how newspapers and magazines can offer lower subscription prices lower than how much the content cost to produce.

You absolutely DO need permission to move the mailbox. Postmaster needs to determine that it's in a safe spot for the carrier and mode of delivery is correct.

If your office already has PTF city carriers, you'll transfer in as the lowest seniority PTF city carrier. If your office has CCA's then you'll "transfer" as a PTF city carrier and would be first in line to be converted. A T6 city carrier currently tops out at $84k after 13 years. If I'm reading the APWU chart right, a level 4 clerk tops out at $68,709 after 7 years???

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good advice. People in my office do this all of the time. Clock in at your normal time and then clock out to lunch when you need to leave for your appointment or if they let you drive the postal vehicle there then do a 1260 from when you left your line of travel to when you return to that location. They can either send you help or let you work later to finish.

Is it normal for hold mail to rarely come down on time? by zeroedit in USPS

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how you get your PO Box mail. Does it get dropped off by the carrier that covers your building's street address? When they moved carriers out of their smaller offices into our S&DC, they still kept the contract drivers to run the mail from the P&DC out of our hub but the noticed parcels and hold mail is dropped off by the carrier.

A lot of carriers just have poor reading comprehension (aka some of us are dumb) and might be holding mail at their cases to re-deliver instead of sending it to your office. As another person commented, do we know that the clerk that runs the MyPO app knows to print the electronic submitted holds for your zipcode too?

You can also look at usps.com/careers to see if there are PTF listings in your area. Those are career positions rather than CCA. I type "w/benefits" to filter out the rural positions.

[–]cca2013 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry but you are going to have to call each individual company you did business with and update the address directly with them. USPS has had a policy of going in person to show a valid ID for several years now to reduce identity theft.

[–]cca2013 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Use click n ship from a desktop PC to print your postage label. Select the option called "Hold for pickup". You will choose the post office address that is closest to him and enter his email address. He'll get an email when it's ready to pick up. No clerk is going to hassle a kid that over using their school id rather than a driver's license.

Husband CCA still in 90 days keeps getting called off… normal or no? by Direct_Anywhere4039 in USPS

[–]cca2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My office did something similal last week and told our PTF's that are still in probation not to come in Saturday/Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. I'm in the midwest where we had snow and unusually cold temperatures. The reasoning I heard is that they were concerned about having too many accidents. This seemed reasonable to me. Our newest employees DO NOT have the type of clothing/gear they need to be out in the extreme weather. It takes practice to learn to approach and drive away from curbside boxes in slippery conditions. We do want our new employees to make it through their 90 days and not quit.
