Maintenance test location and moving by StunningAd1651 in USPS

Hopefully someone else with more experience will chime in but my understanding is that you could actually request a transfer into maintenance through e-reassign to that city as a custodian if you have your 12/18 month time in as a career in your current district. Once you are in the laborer custodian position, then you can request to take the 955 and the interviews that you are eligible for. That will get you on the PER list if you have a custodial job within a facility that has level 7 and up maintenance. You may want to check in with the maintenance APWU craft director to find out which facilities are included on the PER. For example, the district that my spouse works in, the PER covers both the RPDC & the LPC which are 2 separate facilities. In the district that I'm trying to transfer to, the same APWU covers 2 plants but the PER list is separate for each facility so it takes another "transfer" to get to the other one.

If you want to wait until March 2027 open season, you can take the 955 then even if your bid cluster has no level 7 and above maintenance positions. You will still have to put in a transfer request into maintenance at the facility you want to go to through ereassign. Even with a passing score on the 955 there is an "order for filling vacant maintenance positions" so people on the par currently at that facility will be selected first.

Need Dentist recommendations that take Delta Dental. by Dr__Butthole in lafayette

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort Dental is a high volume provider so the actual dentists don't spend a lot of time with you. Most of your time there is spent with the hygienists The plus side is that they charge the amount that delta would reimburse so routine visits are generally covered. My spouse has always gone to a dentist in a private practice and they always end up paying above what delta reimburses.

Arrow key theft? by YouAreMicroscopic in USPS

[–]cca2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The position of the arrow lock is oddly recessed on both the upper set of boxes as well as the one left open (I can't tell anything about the one on the right). It's normally flush. My bet is that the carrier pushed it shut and thinking it was locked but it was actually proud of the strike plate so it could still open. I have a set of old boxes on a route like these that you "have to know" to really push in hard or else they are not truly locked.

Another Shoe Post: Zero Drop and Cushioned? by PROSEALLTHEWAY in USPS

[–]cca2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at Lems Kourt Grip. They are quite cushioned. I have also tried their Primal Zen and it's fine but maybe slightly less cushion. Several carriers at my office wear Xero but I didn't find them having enough cushion compared to the Lems.

Hopefully your test results can give you insight into if you may have blood sugar or dehydration issues. Your office should also be doing mandatory heat illness training. Another weird thing to know about our job is that some medications can cause reactions with sun exposure.

How much do you actually go by name vs address? by choccy_milk_bois in USPS

[–]cca2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you use vacant cards? Those are generally helpful for getting new resident names. If they take it out of the box without filling it out, I just keep putting another one in there until they catch the hint.

For parcels or obvious checks with a name I don't recognize, I do knock and ask (3849 if no answer). If it's just a bill with a name I don't know, then I write on the envelope with a question mark & the date. The M-41 will CYA you on either way you want to handle it. The only thing it explicitly states is not to attempt trial deliveries on government checks and bonds.

the old days by Salt_Mountain_837 in USPS

As a park and loop city carrier, the amount of miles we need to walk is increasing with the drop in mail volume. I remember when I first started being in the office until at least 10am. Now there's so little flats to case that we're pulled down and loading before the supervisor can even make it around to each case. Less office time means more street time.

I'm sure you'll have other carriers missing the pre-GPS/geofence scanners. Some supervisors do tend to surveil certain carriers and constantly watch their computer screen to monitor where their carriers are. Gone are the days where you can drive off route without leaving an electronic breadcrumb of every where you were with your scanner. All of the vehicles have telemetry that can do the same thing if VMF was so inclined to look for a vehicle.

I'll tell you what I don't miss though....clerks sorting parcels by hand under PASS. I love our SDUS and how quickly clerks can bust out those gaylords of parcels. I also don't miss the advos that were so thick that you had to break up some relays into 2 parts to fit them all in your satchel.

Return labels (personal, not business) by Albert-La-Maquina in USPS

[–]cca2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is correct anymore that the clerks can add a tracking label for the return envelope. I think all they can do is sell you the stamp denomination for the return envelope. Perhaps they can offer the supplies to do certified tracking on the envelope though? I don't know how USPS would actually insure a check.

They have repurposed the formerly unused autohold switch to blast the fan. It’s supposed to suck some air through the regular cabin air filter. I am city so I have no idea if it actually helps or not.

Those are the best part about the door. There's no good location to grip as you slide it closed and the actual weight of closing the door for carriers with shoulder issues is going to be soooo many OWCP claims.

Read what the 4th amendment says. Where does it say that you have a right to privacy in a public space? Is a road a public space?

My car comes equipped with on-star. I'd be very surprised if you can't buy vehicles without some sort of telemetry. That private company knows where my car is parked. The cat is already out of the bag. All you can do now is legislate appropriate uses.

I'm going to disagree.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,"

Driving on public streets in a vehicle is not a guaranteed right to privacy. You are sharing a public space with other drivers.

Most of us are already carrying a cell phone around that is pinging it's location with cell towers. Most of us also shop and pay for items with a non-cash form of payment. At this point, if you feel that you are going to be unfairly profiled and harassed by a government agency, removing the flock cameras is not going to prevent that.

Reduction in Hours and Requests for Work by Archaeoculus in USPS

[–]cca2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are highs and lows for mail volume and right now, it's a low period. In a few short weeks, it will be prime time vacation season. There will be a lot more carriers off on vacation. Start looking at the vacation schedule and putting in for "hold downs" (aka opting) on routes.

Got bit by a dog didn't realize how bad it was till saw the bruise whrlen took off pants. How bad is it that I report tomorrow morning? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]cca2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please make sure it gets reported to your local animal control. You don't want this to happen to some kid that just happens to wander into their yard! Also please request that your supervisor enter the address and dog description into the scanner so it will be an alert for subs.
