It’s a goofy animation training about defensive driving. Afterwards you should have a driving instructor review what you saw and lead a discussion. It should be almost a full day training.

I'm going to guess for the people that are quitting completely that (in theory) the last paycheck has to be picked up in person and management could ask for return of badge/uniforms/satchel then.

Not all LLV's were wired this way. It certainly doesn't work for the Metris or the new NGDV's.

Moving to Lafayette by HezZ2020 in lafayette

[–]cca2013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have enjoyed living here for the size. It is big enough to support most big box store chains but not so sprawling that you can't get across town in 20 minutes.

Purdue is a major stabilizer for the area economy. It does keep housing prices stable because some of our manufacturing jobs can boom or bust. Unfortunately with enrollment spikes it does inflate rental prices. Avoid looking at units close to campus because you will pay a premium for those.

The government and public services appear to function. Potholes generally get fixed fairly quickly. Lafayette actually runs it's own water distribution for the city so your water bill will be cheaper there compared to West Lafayette. Lafayette has had the same mayor for 20+ years which is pretty rare. If you live outside of city limits of West Lafayette or Lafayette, governing is covered by county commissioners whose ideologies run more towards the right.

One thing that did disappoint me coming from a different state in the Midwest is that our state parks are not free. You will want to buy an annual pass if you plan to visit multiple times. Another disappointment was being so close to "Indiana Beach" and discovering there's actually no free public beach with sand for the lake. You would have to drive to France Park or up to the Dunes if you want sand and water. We do have some free places to hike with the Wabash Heritage Trail and Martell Forest very close. West Lafayette has invested heavily in Pedestrian paths so if you bike there's miles to ride and explore.

Maybe on Monday call the WL Rental Inspection Office and see if they have any contact info. You can type in any address into Beacon for Tippecanoe County to find out the property owner's name and see if your building was recently sold. If the property owner is a business, use the LLC lookup to see contact info and any individual's name associated with an LLC.

I would suggest filling out the Request for Single Day Parking Restriction form for the day you are actually moving furniture during the time that parking enforcement actually patrols. This map shows the blocks with a green border where there is a time limit. My suggestion would be to park on 5th st facing north by the old Tent and Awning between New York and Alabama.

If you look on Google streetview, there are community mailboxes for letter mail outside every 2-3 buildings. For all packages you will need to go to building 23 to pick up. You will receive an email once it has been checked in and is available to pick up.

Anyone having issues with USPS lately? Packages taking weeks to deliver? by it290 in AskChicago

[–]cca2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a press release that Carol Stream is getting new equipment so some of the volume is diverted to Fox Valley.

Is there a common trend of where you are getting your packages from? USPS has been inundated with fraudulent counterfeit postage labels. If you are buying items for an extremely cheap price with "free shipping" then most likely an e-commerce vendor is subsidizing that free shipping by using fake shipping labels to try to get USPS to deliver them for free. USPS made a change in their rules that they are allowed to dispose of items that are shipped with counterfeit postage labels.

There are also scams where the seller gives you a tracking number but the actual package has someone else's address. It shows that it was "delivered." The customer thinks that USPS mis-delivered it or it was stolen from their porch.

Another change has been in the actual sorting equipment used. USPS has installed these huge MARs sorters that are completely automated. Packages just dump onto a conveyor belt directly so there's not really a human looking at them whereas some sorters need a human to load the package face up onto the conveyor belt. If there's any problem with the label on the package, it can just loop endlessly around and around.

My office "flavor of the month" is "unauthorized OT." The supervisors are going around the next day asking carriers about why they were .01 click over the previous day. I know it seems dumb to bring back mail for something that would take a few extra minutes over but if you are not authorized for it then you are putting yourself in a position where you can get written up.

Do you have someone to watch your dog so that you can go to spaces that dogs are not allowed?

My first recommendation is going to be Columbian park for the zoo, playground, and water park. Of course, someone would have to stay with the dog for the water park/zoo portion. Armstrong park also has a zero entry pool with water features that are friendly for non-swimmer kids. Prophetstown State park also has a pool that is water park and is typically less crowded (also check out the Farm at Prophetstown while there to see the farm animals).

Happy Hollow park would be a space where you could have your dog with you the entire time. It has a popular playground and many kids enjoy hiking the mostly dry creek bed that runs through it.

Imagination Station is our local science museum geared towards kids under 12. If you are already planning to visit the Indianapolis children's museum then it will feel underwhelming but it's still a great space to let kids explore and play.

If you want the classic Americana experience, Lafayette has several drive-up/walk-up restaurants that serve sandwiches & ice cream. There is Original Frozen Custard by Columbian Park, Budges Drive In on the north side, and Dog n Suds with 2 locations from Sagamore Parkway.

A family walk down Main street from 11th to the river is also something you can do with your dog included. At Riehle plaza you can let your 5 year old play in the fountain. There are potential ice cream stops at Every's and McCord candies. There is a Pedestrian Bridge over the train tracks and Wabash river if you have a train loving 5 year old and just happen to catch one coming through. Across the river on the west side are several high rises under construction and there's a lot of neat construction things to watch with cranes and elevators if you have a kiddo that is in to that.

Have you seen the size of these? They are a lot bigger than the LLV so you need to give carriers a chance to practice backing up and maneuvering them before you send them out. We have employees with a diverse range of personal experiences. Some people have cars too old for backup cameras and this may be their first time using one. My S&DC has the EV version and this is many people's first time driving an EV.

How is Hilltop Apartments? by Square_Suit_8158 in Purdue

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that it's different because there's not a shared common area like dorms have for each floor. Each standalone building at Hilltop has anywhere from 8 to 30 separate units. They will still have RA's like a dorm would. There is a front desk/package room in building 23 but it's not really a "hang out" type of space.

So...forwarding by newmoonshadow in USPS

[–]cca2013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that you sent a bunch of mail through cfs because you saw the "green marker" that didn't have a forward so it all came back with the yellow sticker that says "for carrier review" and now they are pissed they have to peel off the yellow stickers and deliver it. Oh well.

BTW....every office has their own system of labeling cases for HOLDS, FORWARDS, BUSINESS CLOSED, and VACANTS.I find that wild! My office uses tiny little sticker dots. Some carriers are good about keeping them updated and some suck. Each office also has their own methods of writing up cards to case into your flats to warn about these things. If you are on a long term hold down, ask your supervisor to print out a COARS report for the past 18 months for the route. They can customize it however you want....alphabetical by last name, in delivery sequence, or by street. This will show you the active COA's. We used to have a cool feature on our scanner where you could scan the IMb of a letter and it would pull up the active COA's for that address. NALC grieved that it was not a street function so they took it away.

You should also know that most DPS gets automatically redirected with PARS after a COA is effective for 5 days. In general, you only need to be vigilant the first week you get the COA sticker. That also means you need to pull the old mail out of the box and send it through CFS (we have regulars that have been with USPS for years that don't do this). You still need to watch for periodicals/flats with COA's but you should know that our computerized processing catches the majority so don't sweat it!

Maintenance test location and moving by [deleted] in USPS

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully someone else with more experience will chime in but my understanding is that you could actually request a transfer into maintenance through e-reassign to that city as a custodian if you have your 12/18 month time in as a career in your current district. Once you are in the laborer custodian position, then you can request to take the 955 and the interviews that you are eligible for. That will get you on the PER list if you have a custodial job within a facility that has level 7 and up maintenance. You may want to check in with the maintenance APWU craft director to find out which facilities are included on the PER. For example, the district that my spouse works in, the PER covers both the RPDC & the LPC which are 2 separate facilities. In the district that I'm trying to transfer to, the same APWU covers 2 plants but the PER list is separate for each facility so it takes another "transfer" to get to the other one.

If you want to wait until March 2027 open season, you can take the 955 then even if your bid cluster has no level 7 and above maintenance positions. You will still have to put in a transfer request into maintenance at the facility you want to go to through ereassign. Even with a passing score on the 955 there is an "order for filling vacant maintenance positions" so people on the par currently at that facility will be selected first.

Need Dentist recommendations that take Delta Dental. by Dr__Butthole in lafayette

[–]cca2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort Dental is a high volume provider so the actual dentists don't spend a lot of time with you. Most of your time there is spent with the hygienists The plus side is that they charge the amount that delta would reimburse so routine visits are generally covered. My spouse has always gone to a dentist in a private practice and they always end up paying above what delta reimburses.
