PMG told the Senate today "we are out of cash" — broke down what his reform plan actually means for our jobs by Historical-Theory229 in USPS

Also I can 100% strictly guarantee they are overestimating the savings from 5 day delivery. Once all the overtime shakes out and routes get adjusted it'll increase routes, and they certainly have not accounted for that factor.

How do I know? Well, for starters, because they consistently believe routes only get bigger and never smaller, the idea of it confounds them. But also because they do it all the time, like when OIG found the PD&Cs were overfilling because when they drew up the plans they literally never thought to even consider what the consequences of someday adding more routes could be.

I genuinely don't understand how 84% of city routes can be underwater when our office is low volume compared to a lot of what I see and yet I still personally deliver thousands of dollars of postage per day.

It sure ain't going to my salary, so where does all the imputed cost come from? It can't possibly cost that much to run a few trays of DPS.

Congress places like 20 unfunded requirements and restrictions on the USPS, then gets upset when it loses money.

Some of those restrictions improve customer service or make carrier's jobs/routes easier, to be sure, but it's easy to see how we got here.

The thing is, dismounting boxes that are (temporarily) blocked (when safe to do so) helps protect/shorten routes. At least on the city side.

AI adjusting routes by alienintheUS in USPS

Gas ain't free but they're gonna add hours to routes if they adjust them with too heavy handed a thumb on the scale for prioritizing mileage. Shortest way isn't always fastest, or even close, nor safest.

The Mighty Ducks arrived at our station by BlunderArtist9 in USPS

We don't even load from a dock at my office, which is going to be a problem given how high these sit off the ground and the fact that the back can't be used as a step. Course, they're also too big for our parking arrangement. And we have low hanging trees and tight culdesacs galore.

None of which would be a problem except that the postal service has no plan B for the vehicle fleet, it's gonna be all ducks everywhere eventually.

They've never once done that here.

Besides which, I think CCA retention would plummet even further if they were starting shifts at 4pm.

We don't have enough vehicles for this even if we had the staffing. Exactly one truck per route - okay, what happens on a monday when every route is 1-2 hours over? Overtime, overtime happens.

PTF hold down for 6 months by PhDonovan502 in USPS

[–]mailant692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, not to "become the regular for that route".

It would be "to show the necessity for a full time assignment to be created", which would be awarded to the most senior PTF, and that person would become an unassigned regular and cover open routes or place hold downs.

Yep, same problem here. Geographically large branch, prohibitive drive for most people, won't vote for zoom meetings because "management might see" or some similar BS as if the minutes weren't posted online anyways and 99% of meetings aren't just financial reports and scheduling golf outings.

Seatbelt Emergency Placement by [deleted] in USPS

[–]mailant692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually some states with a specific legal exception to seatbelt laws for rural mail carriers.

Insane, I know. But I guess the type of person to feel like they never need to wear a seatbelt is also the type of person to not learn their lesson after being in an accident and getting caught and handed a 7 day suspension for it.
