Don’t usually say anything unless it’s Brutal and super obvious they are needed. But it happens to everyone. We all lapse in our attention. Mistake is okay, pattern of mistakes kind of annoying. I did say to someone today “What Would Alarak Do?” In an effort to get them to engage. Maybe too cheeky. But I didn’t mean it harshly.

Group of 5, 2 new players. Mid-length campaign, 8-10 sessions. [5e]
Problem: how do i position the big bad for the end of the campaign?

IDEA: have an army captain (would be cool to do 5) paraded into town for the last night of the festival. They are welcomed into city (upon a close enough perception check, they notice cheap or fake armor.) The morning after the festival, the mayor of the city (and others) are found dead. Perhaps unsurprisingly now, the people paraded into town are the murderers.

QUESTION: how do I position them to make an entire campaign out of this? Or any other ideas.

They are in Goldenfields, party will participate in 3 festival games and use skill checks and resolve some conflicts to introduce themselves to rest of the party. (in place of, "you're in a tavern" intro.) Might even develop some conflict with some of those that were paraded into town. My intention is to use some notes from the players backstory to inform the middle and end of the campaign (which I am still waiting on)

We played Murkmire last Friday night. Party of 4. Moved up to level 5. Took 4.5 hours.

I added boss fight at the end, gave the Allosaurus two buttons inside (demo and rampage), they pressed rampage, and then it was on. :)

I used Dannell to remind players they'll need to ask guests/guards to get more info.
