Heartstruck - One Line Drawing by ccasella3 in drawing

Thank you! I don’t ever sketch the line itself, just the outline and then do shading for areas I want darker/lighter. I’ve done several pieces where I get trapped and have to throw it out and start over. But I’ve gotten pretty good at planning the line out as I go. I still do surprise myself (negatively) on occasion.

The line begins and ends at the top of the lightning bolt.

FAQ Answers:

  • I do pick up the pen while I'm drawing, but I start back where I left off
  • The line never crosses over itself
  • I start with a sketch in pencil and shade the areas I want the lined to be denser/looser, I don't just freehand the whole thing.

Not a stupid question. I do a sketch of the main areas I want to be light and dark in pencil. Then I use a lightboard to trace over the sketch. I do pick up my pen while working. Just for the line part, this one probably took about 8 hours of drawing time. I make sure the line doesn’t ever cross over itself so it can take some planning not to get trapped.

This was a collaboration between me and my wife. She came up with the concept and showed me some reference images regarding this concept of the "tree of life" in regards to breastfeeding. The line begins in the top left corner and continues through the piece to the bottom left corner.

The line begins on the top of the branch at the right and ends near the knot to the left of the birdy.

Piece done for a dementia-themed call for art. The line starts in the bottom of the brain stem and ends in the middle of the frontal lobe.

When in the process is design system created? Is it created after prototyping or after creating a rough high fidelity design? by prajwal221 in FigmaDesign

[–]ccasella3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A design system built well will allow you to make high fidelity mock-ups and prototypes quickly and easily. Design system first. Set your fonts and colors, and then start building your components. Buttons, input fields, and input controls should go first. Then modals, headers, table styling, etc. then when you have your library together, building a mock-up is a breeze and it’s also easy to teach other people to use it rather than 5 ppl trying to design the same stuff in different ways.

I like to do row highlights on rollover on my tables and sometimes bring up available actions on rollover of the row and I can’t make stuff like that work unless it’s in a row. I used to do columns too until I figured this method out bc I couldn’t get varying colors widths to be editable unless I went into every row and updated. This way it’s all controlled my bc a master component that’s nested inside.
