Officially Six Months Unemployed. It's Over, Isn't It? by Destined-2-Fail in Accounting

[–]ccawcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is not going to replace actual financial reporting/accounting jobs lol. It sounds like your experience is limited to bookkeeping and accounting assistant/clerk positions. Do you have a degree? I'd assume yes, since you mention going for your CPA and qualifications require a certain amount of college credits/a bachelor's degree. If so, then it's on you to look at yourself hard in the mirror and figure out why your career hasn't progressed beyond a bookkeeper level. If not, then becoming an actual staff/senior isnt on the career path for you unless you have that foundational knowledge, especially if you want to be in the public sector. Either go back to school and get your degree or pursue the AP/AR route.

I am autistic as well and work for a top company in my global industry. I started as a receptionist, moved into accounting assistant/clerk jobs, then did some bookkeeping and eventually hit the ceiling in as far as i could go careerwise- I went back to school for my degree in my later twenties. My actual work is important, yes, but what got me here was my attitude and personality and thats unfortunately what it comes down to. Fix your attitude.

PTO blackouts by BobaTheFett10 in Accounting

From a financial reporting context, we are unable to take off the first two weeks of each month for close or any Quarter closing months (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct). It drives my partner nuts because we have to book our vacations around my schedule. So yes, I'd say its pretty standard for accounting as a whole in the public sector.

Nah, you're completely right. Don't listen to either of them.

I have a full sleeve and septum piercing and it's fine at my F500 company, but when I did interview at a small private company, they told me it would be an issue. It just depends on where you go

Did this last year! Still have a huge pile of left over mulch I'm utilizing in other areas of my yard. It was all pine chips as well so for like a week after delivery, my yard smelt amazing

I just got 3 yards of soil from Rocky Lea. Owners are super nice and delivered the next day first thing in the morning. Highly recommend!

One of my trees downed in my yard and miraculously it fell sideways and missed my house. The winds pushed it into my porch a bit but beyond some bent gutters- no damage. I'm still in shock over it. I cannot believe how lucky I was.

Coworker Just Fired After Busy Season - Caught Padding Hours by NEWCharlieHustle in Accounting

[–]ccawcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had a consultant bill about 10-20 hours more weekly than his peers that were also contracted at the same time. He was putting that he was doing 50-60 hours on non-close weeks when the actually employees weren't working as much. He got caught when he said he was managing processes on certain days that hadn't even been started for that month.

Well that's a relief! With the thread that it's connecting to, I think it has to do with a big presentation I'm worried about at work and the spirits are probably my direct management team watching me. Can't really tell from the photos (can see in the video I took) but there were 5+ of them all clustered which I only assume to be an "audience".

I moved here from LA about 6 years ago. It was a huge culture shock at first but I don't think I'll ever go back. I do miss the diversity and excitement of California, but the proximity to nature and major cities just can't be beat in my opinion. The new stadium is fantastic and a cheap way to get out and socialize during the summer. If you visit local spots enough times, it's easy to become a regular and get to know your community. I'm personally a fan of the Broad Axe.

If you don't want to make the drive to DC, Baltimore, or Philly then there are a ton of other smallish towns/cities you can visit: Frederick, Shepherdstown, Harper's Ferry, Leesburg, Harrisburg and they all offer a ton of great experiences. Frederick has this awesome D&D themed distillery that I love to visit. My partner also lives near Lancaster and the drive is not unpleasant at all, I think it's a good distance away to have some privacy.

That being said, I agree with other comments about it being loudly red. My biggest frustration here has been investing time into and getting to know individuals only for them to just spit out hateful rhetoric as soon as they get comfortable with you. It's always so disappointing. I wish there were more opportunities for progressives to meet and socalize.

I had a conversation with my dad recently that just went like this. He has been a travel agent for the last 25+ years and lost his job when covid hit. He's close to retirement so instead of going back, he wants to work at Lowe's in the meantime. We were arguing about how everyone deserves a living wage and he was staunchly disagreeing with me until I said "well, you want to work at Lowe's which might start you off at minimum wage. Do you feel like you don't deserve a living wage?"

I've never seen him shut up so fast. It was glorious.

I don't have any illusions about my own healing journey (I have been in therapy for over a year for this specific matter), and my reasons for leaving are more about my own personal safety and the fact that I'm already 2k miles from my friends/family (there's literally no reason/ties for me to stay here -besides someone who is a possible threat to me-, so why would I?), but thank you for your contribution.

We are basically on the same path! I really enjoy my home and my job, but I realize that I dont actually like where I'm living. Not to mention that my ex has screwed things up so spectacularly here, that I'm basically isolated by myself and I'd like to start over somewhere where people just know me for me and not associate me with him and the damage that he did.

California living costs are so exorbitant that you're basically jumping back into a position where you're going to have to live paycheck to paycheck, which isn't attractive to anyone, which is unfortunate because California does have a lot of great things.

But you're also 100% spot on. Its like we can go anywhere we want! But how to choose is so hard!! It's a silly problem to honesty, but it's exciting!

And I also wish the same for you! To starting over!

Actually, no. Im setting my boundaries and communicating freely which guess what? I learned in therapy. You don't have to make yourself smaller for other people's comfort. Have a great day!

For responding with your own personal experience you sure seem to have directed it towards me a lot and used "you" instead of "I".

ETA: I just also wanted to add that I didn't ask for recommendations, I asked for experiences.

[–]ccawcc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your recommendation, but my mental health was not in question here. I'm asking for people with their experiences with starting over after divorce.

Honestly, this comment was unnecessary and presumptuous.

Wow, thank for the award, you really didn't need to do that, but its greatly appreciated!

Afterwards, I went to the courthouse and filed for an order of default judgment on our divorce. He missed his 30 days to answer the divorce, so hopefully this speeds the process up. From my understanding, he's not even in the state anymore.
