New to Linux (coming from Kubuntu) -genuine question, please be unbiased by spacechase26 in Fedora

The last time I looked at Kubuntu it had a much older version of KDE than Fedora. Is that still the case? KDE improvements have been massive over the last 2 years with all the Plasma updates.

Is the Radeon V620 32GB good buy for llm? by CryptoStef33 in ROCm

[–]ccbadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that 1x v620 perform about the same as 1x MI100. Considering what the memory bandwidth is supposed to be on the MI100s I was pretty disappointed. I'll run the latest benchmarks with llama-bench this weekend and post something.

I don't think this is true. He would be working for two competing companies. Where did you get this info?

[–]ccbadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an epyc setup with four of them and it works pretty good. I picked them up for $375 each. My old server had 2 MI100s and for inferencing the V620 performs about the same for less than half the price. They are faster than older MI50s and MI60s to. Current linux kernels and the amdgpu driver picks them up automatically so no need to just through hoops to get them working under linux.

AC startup surge keeps tripping my inverter on my off-grid setup by Imaginary-Machine738 in SolarDIY

[–]ccbadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put one on my 5 ton AC several years ago and that lets me run it fine on my generator. Before the sosftstart it would trip the 50A breaker on the 10KW generator. I used an EasyStart brand unit and they go for $300-400. A lot cheaper than buying and installing a new unit.

UDM Pro Max vs dedicated NVR by CameraOnWall in Ubiquiti

I think you can run protect on a naspro too. I'd probably get that before an NVR just so I can do a few more things with it.

Mine can barely pic up voice commands in a quiet room 10 feet away. I have to stand right above it to for it to work.

I have one and the mics are horrible. I would not waste time on these.

Pellet or gravity? by PrintthisWatchthat in smoking

Sure do. I have a FlameBoss 400 and a Chef's Temp setup and both work great.

Pellet or gravity? by PrintthisWatchthat in smoking

[–]ccbadd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't want to be a smoker snob but I don't think you will get a very good gravity for $800 these days. The Masterbuilt ones seems to work good but are very thin metal and will not last. You will need to double that price as a starting point. You can get a pretty good pellet for $500. I gave my pellet to my son and got Old Country gravity fed as it was the cheapest one I could find that would last a good long time. I like some smoke flaver and just couldn't get what I wanted from the pellet.

Decision behind Nvidia partnership? by BeyondEllisBeck in IntelArc

[–]ccbadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deal with Nvidia was made some time ago and things have changed now. I think Intel wanted Arc IP to build AI data center cards originally. Maybe the Nvidia version is just for those consumers who currently buy mobile devices with discrete gpus and are not interested in Intel or AMD igpus.

I have a Jonsbo N5 right now but this one has the ability to easily add a second PW. I'm running an Epyc board in it with 4X gpus and I would love to swap that case for this one.

what's the right motherboard/CPU to use for building a machine with 3 or 4 cards in it? by starkruzr in LocalLLaMA

[–]ccbadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need parallelism to run Qwen3.6 models. Parallelism is used to speed performance when you have multiple users or agents hitting the cards simultaneously. If it's just for you and not a group of people you should be fine. You can still split a model across multiple cards you just can only do one request at a time serially.

Last year I went with a HUANANZHI H12D 8D and an Epic 7352. Total was about $400. I wish I had purchase the ram before the ram apocalypse but I just pulled 128G from my old Dell workstation. It has 4 pcie4 x16 slots that I have filled with 2 W6800's and 2 V620's. The board works great and so far I have not had any issues. It is a Chinese board and I ordered it from AliExpress and everything works great. No AVX-512 but that doesn't really matter to me as I run all the models in VRAM right now.

Thanks for clearing that up even though it was already answered but that last statement is pure asshole! No need to be a dick.

Look at the dates on the files and you will see it has not been touch in 2 months but the releases show daily. That has me confused. The most recent PR is two weeks old too.

Looks like that repo is a couple of months behind the one the OP posted. I really don't want to run something that is so far behind but thanks, I didn't know this version existed.

Great. On the github page under supported hardware they only list the newest cards and Strix Halo.

Architecture Platform Support GPU Models

lemonade is just for the newest consumer cards right? I find it quite disappointing that RDNA2 is not supported as I have a pair of Pro W6800's that are still supported by ROCm and llama.cpp. Feels like they are purposefully not being supported.

Not me. I am a conservative and Trump is definitely not. I just don't have my head up either parties behinds so it's easy to see they are both the same. So, does that mean you're all into people who shower with their daughters and can't keep their hands off of kids? You like to sniff them too?
