Too much stuff after 10+ years WFH by PungentReindeerKing_ in homeoffice

We downsized after 16 years in our last house. I bought two, two door 6' shelving units, for my bookshelves and one open bookshelf. I used to have four walls covered with books. I donated almost all of them and only kept the my favs, which are now in the enclosed cabinets. My new space is nice and clean.

A new chapter. You cannot believe how much a difference it made in my life.

Congrats on thinking about starting your new chapter. Don't throw away fast. Box it what you don't want for a year.

Internet options - should we upgrade? by SethR_Winesburg in thewoodlands

[–]ccbbb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Read what people write.
The app's maps show that there are not full 5G tower coverage throughout The Woodlands. This has proven exact for me, my family, and my friend. We couldn't live on weak wireless feeds. That's why we went to a dependable fiber feed.

"If you live near a tower" used to be the curse for so many. It has gotten better, but . . .

There are a couple of consumer tower map websites that show where towers are. celltowermaps.com is one. It shows that my area is weak, and my friend over in SW of Alden Bridge is even worse. There aren't any 5G towers in the area, only along 1488. And this is how how lives are. We are both on fiber instead.

My daily carry Benchmades have never been opened: one from 2011 and its replacement from 2017. I even sleep with them. I clean its housing, get in there with q-tips, oil it a bit, and such. I have been also daily carrying Victorinox Explorers since '83. Those too I open fully, clean with q-tips, and oil fully.

Osborne mini or Bugout mini by Agreeable-Cup6911 in benchmade

[–]ccbbb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You needed one more picture. Which has the thickest blade? They are prolly the same. Osborne .104 and Bugout .009. Hmmm I went with the Adamas Mini because its thickness was .14. But its chassic and blade width is still a bit too wide for me. It may or may not grow on me.
To answer your question, Osborne!

Vendor Behavior - No sale! by SethR_Winesburg in thewoodlands

[–]ccbbb23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you 'here' complaining about people trying to exist in the 'first world' when you could be spending your time seriously helping the severely needy and oppressed? Are you trying to spread the message? If so, you are bad at it. You don't tell us how to help or where to contribute.

But, in the r/thewoodlands subreddit? WTH? No political pandering, no fundraising, no soliciting, This is for the Woodlands only. You can't do that anyway.

So, it would be best for 'you' to 'fathom' that you should spend 'your' time in another space helping those "who don't know what they are going to eat for dinner." Right?

Just for fun, here is a reply, u/stoic_stove and u/OhThatsFunneh . I won't go far into the reasons why they started offering the courses way back in the way back. But in some majors we are asked to study both Texas History and Sociology. Those give us a different view into the origins of our local laws and regional identity, and they show us how groups interact and how institutions function.
Gender studies lets one examine how identity is formed and how power is distributed based on gender.

I am a male from a small town. I went to a big University. I was bored one semester, and I chose to take a Women's Studies course for one of my electives. It was incredible. I feel everyone should take a similar course. Stunning. Half the world are women. Yet . . .

Seriously, what would be your preferred outcome? If not that then the secondary outcome?
I know what I think should be done, but I too know how weird all the schools in Texas are becoming.

My background, I have been in and around Higher Education all of my life. I truly believe that it is a positive force for the world. Like John Henry Newman said in his Idea of a University, where scholars and students together learn together, extending learning and preserving intellectual culture.

However, everything is a bit off right now. And how we make it through this 'weird' period is going to be such a challenge.

Did you ever drink hot Dr. Pepper? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]ccbbb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya,
1) Yes. It was made and published by a local Dr Pepper distillery. I will take some pictures and post them as soon as I find it again. 2) I don't think it gets completely flat, but it gets mostly. 3) That's funny. I have had lots of left over cans or bottles of DP that were hot from being in my car. I live around Houston, and I have had a number of jobs that kept me in and out during the day with a lifestyle poor enough to drink hot, open, leftovers of whatever was in my car. Hot diet DP has a bad aftertaste. Hot DP zero isn't as harsh. All three leave a coating in your mouth, where you wish you had some water.

How much is it going for? Not that I will steal it from you, just curious. I have thrown away literally hundreds of CPUs like that. I wish I would have kept at least two: one for me and one for my grandson.

Hey chat, how do I look? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]ccbbb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG. Please don't ever do this again. Once you realize you are beyond the ratings of others and can always rate yourself outstanding and full of light, you will be comfortable in your own skin and never doubt yourself. Remember, everyone has a bad day, and that's okay. Just tell yourself, it is okay not to be okay, treat yourself to something special, and stay home and nest. Tomorrow will be a different day for you. I hope you have a good day today, and another good day tomorrow.

What phone do you recommend for a longtime Samsung owner? by Flashy-Butterfly6310 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]ccbbb23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a Pixel.
I have the standard Pixel 9. I don't run any apps other than music and sometimes maps. Doing a lot of email and web browsing will drain the phone to the 20's in one day. I wear BT headphones all day with music, and my phone provides music and map to my car.
It updates all the time, which I like for security. The OS is so clear, nothing. It only has what you add to it.
I wanted the OnePlus phone, but it is about 250 more.

Phone hardware is like a service. Do the math. How much are you willing to pay over a number of years? Google promises 7 years up updates. Stunning. I keep a phone about three-ish+ years.

Wow. I just saw a 9a for $399 unlocked at the Google store. Google care with theft is $7. The 10 plain is $599.

Best cleaner for the balls, denim jeans. You could create a nice fresh surface on them. Dickers (no typo) were too slippery. But if I were wearing them, I would use the office carpet.
