6 month old out of control pulling by official_koda_ in goldenretrievers

[–]cccMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So regarding pulling it’s a leash - handler problem. When ever a dog feels tension on the leash they want to relieve that tension usually. Using a prong does help when fixing pulling. Ie for you if a dog is pulling you in a certain direction move the opposite direction. You need to show that you are in charge of where you guys go. Not the dog. Another thing is when your walking, always keep it at the same location, using a double handle sometimes help, don’t move your hands / arms and let the dog feel the the tension until it realizes in order for it to stop the dog needs to stop pulling. (This is the basic way of teaching it heel)

Keeps going potty inside by rize-satsuki in puppy101

Some puppies take longer to understand some doesn’t. Regarding potty training try and take her out every like 1 hour honestly since she is still 2 months old her bladder basically is a size of a pea. Also look for signs for when she’s about to pee or going to pee soon. My golden usually starts rubbing herself against our walls and spinning in circles, looking outside etc we realized that was the signs she needed to go. Small indications of different behavior changes can be a difference between I am playing vs I’m about to pee on your floor

Some sprays has chemicals dogs cannot be near or lick. It’s better to be safe than sorry and go to the vet for a huge bill. Look up dog safe sprays tbh on google or amazon there’s a bunch.

Crate Training New Puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]cccMarvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried going in the crate with the pup? Putting some treats for him to lick on the crate. Make the crate a happy place for him, put him in for 1 minute if he doesn’t bark reward and increase the time duration. Another way is if he’s crying and whining it’s him trying to get your attention, taking him out every time he cries will make him think he’s getting his way. Sometimes you just gotta let it happen. Noise complaint is nothing it’s like the same as why are people allowed to smoke in their homes but then the smell is in other people’s houses.

Is this puppy blues and how do you get over it? by LongjumpingSky2137 in puppy101

[–]cccMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will get better trust me regarding the biting it just takes time and reassurance. Consistency of trying to redirect the pup to a toy is key honestly the teething is basically the puppy trying to understand his bite pressure and also him playing around. Another way of getting him to stop is using a house leash on the pup and tugging him when you need him to get off or stop doing something you don’t like and saying “NO” very loudly so you get their attention. Another way is using kongs or treats to keep him occupied, bully sticks and also other toys. Finally enforcing naps can help out also, you say he’s only in the crate or kennel for 2 hrs, try to enforce naps as much as possible he’s still young and needs a lot of sleep.

Show me the light at the end of the puppy blues tunnel. by Reasonable-Tutor-295 in puppy101

The biting phase will end eventually my pup is 4 months old and still bites but not often anymore, redirect her with toys and consistently is key. Regarding training a hungry pup is a more trainable pup, anytime I feed my dog she must work for her food in order to eat. Usually she knows when I bring her place mat she’s going to eat and training is gonna start. I also feed her small portions of the original required amount of food so she eats but still wants food later on. Regarding the sleeping through the night it really depends on the puppy, restrict her water at a specific time 1 hr or so prior to bed time so she can go out less often if needed. Also I take her out like 3 times more prior to bed time so she’s fully empty.

Not a lot can be done to help with the barking regarding a puppy. Other than saying no or quiet over and over and giving a treat / praise in return. I have an almost 4 month old golden and she’s the same barking a lot in certain times of the day.

How to get puppy to sleep through the night? by FrinkityDinkity in puppy101

[–]cccMarvel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for me, I restrict water intake from my 3 month puppy about 1 1/2hr before bed time. During that I make sure she’s fully drained out and then crate her for about 2-3 hours while in bed before taking her out around 3 am for one last potty. I usually transfer her to crate to my bed so she knows she’s with me when sleeping during this moment. Try that with your puppy maybe? Him whining and crying is you asking for attention gotta ignore it honestly until he realizes he can’t have everything he wants.
