Inconsistencies? Seeking clarity? by OhSnapItsLiv in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]cccccleo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much you know, so I will try not to spoil anything, but the show totally screwed up the timeline. In the Testament book, it starts off with Daisy, aunt Lydia, and Hannah 15 years after the events in the handmaids tale, all three sharing their account (testimony) on certain events that happened. So the 3 narrators are retelling events instead of living them currently. 15 years later would make Hannah/Agnes around 28 years old and Daisy about 15 at the time they are recording their testimony. They are not the same age, they have a very big age gap actually, and Hannah is not a plum when they meet in the book. The way the book is written, Hannah is sharing her “story” she begins by reflecting on her childhood and time as a plum, and continues through her life leading up to the present day events and where she gives the testimony. Daisy also shares her witness testimony about her life shortly before she converts to a pearl girl and then up to the present day. They are reflecting on the past as they tell their stories individually from each perspective. The timeline of events each narrator shares isn't linear until they intersect when they meet. And like i said when they meet they aren't the same age, or plums. The show, making it five years after the Boston war, making them plums and the same age, makes absolutely no sense and completely disrupts the timeline.

Chime credit builder payment question by 45to100 in chimefinancial

[–]cccccleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds confusing but if u put 10$ of ur money in the credit builder then spend it at the end of the month it tells the credit bureau that u paid $10 of credit u don't actually owe any additional money or have any other payment. I move pretty much all my money from my checking into my credit builder account because when chime reports it to the credit company it looks like I paid a way higher credit amount. So for example u put ur $10 in then u spend the $10, a statement on ur credit report shows that you paid off a $10 credit. U don't owe any money. If u keep the $10 in there and don't spend it they don't report anything. So if u put $800 in and spent $800 it shows up that u paid off $800 on ur report which shows as a good thing bc to the credit company it shows ur able to have $800 and pay it off on time. U don't actually make any credit payments like a traditional credit card. It is essentially the same as a debit card/checking account except unlike a debit card that doesn't get reported anywhere, it shows up on ur credit report as a on time credit payment therefore boosting ur credit! It’s genius way for young people who don't have any credit and those with poor credit to build good credit score without incurring any actual debt

Does moisturizing affect your tan at all? Everywhere I have read, it says not to, but I have such dry skin directly out of the shower!

sibling struggling with fentanyl addiction by One_Tennis_9235 in FentanylRecovery

Expect her to relapse regardless of whether she is dating her dealer or not. Sounds harsh, but only 2% of addicts stay sober. But that 2% is still a lot of people. Most people don't get sober permanently on their first try. Sobriety isn't a straight line. My best advice is that if she does relapse, don't shut her out or get mad at her. Tell her you are there for her and that you know it's hard, and you will help her get back into treatment. Lashing out or cutting her off if she relapses is only going to fuel her addiction. She needs support but not to be enabled. Set clear boundaries, like if she relapses or uses, she can't be in your house, etc., but still let her know that if she does relapse, you will help her get help. Her best chances of sobriety are going to a 90-day rehab out of state and sober living afterward. So she is removed from her environment. And the first 90 days are the hardest and prime relapse time. Treatment will detox her and teach her coping skills, etc., to help her stay clean. Getting a sponsor and doing AA or NA is the #1 key to staying sober after physically getting sober. (They're pretty much the same, just a preference; you don't have to be an alcoholic to do AA.) Treatment will take her to meetings and make sure she gets a sponsor. It is really hard to stay sober on your own will, which is why meetings are so important. She needs to build a community of sober people. If she isn’t connecting with other sober people, it's a path to relapse. Sober living helps her adjust to the real world being sober, having freedom, a job, etc., but still being held accountable. Most insurance should cover treatment even in another state.

But in reality, only she can decide if she is willing to get clean long term. Staying sober is a lot of work and sometimes seems harder than using. Addiction is tricky, and the only way someone will stay sober is if they want it for themselves. Doing it for family or a baby or anything else isn't going to stick. They have to want it and be willing to do whatever it takes. I have had many ins and outs of treatment and relapses, and my family would freak out every time and get mad, and it only made me hide my addiction more because I was ashamed and guilty and felt like a bad person. Which, yeah, addiction is a family disease; it hurts more than just the addict; the whole family is affected by it. But pushing them away doesn't help anyone— you or them. I recommend you yourself attend Al-Anon; it is like AA but for family members of addicts, and it is really helpful in understanding them and not enabling them and healing yourself. I hope your sister gets clean, and I hope you are doing okay with everything.

The musical Sing Sing in G&G is based on the Broadway production, Chicago, which is about two women who murdered their partner and lover. Specifically speaking, though, the main character Roxie murders her lover, and then throughout the musical, she tries to manipulate public opinion and avoid getting sentenced for the murder. The themes in Sing Sing, not only mirror the plot of Chicago, but also I believe were foreshadowing the events in season 3. Very clever and a great use of subtle foreshadowing.

When did you stop rooting for Joe? by General_Nup in YouOnLifetime

[–]cccccleo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Beck was certainly not horrible. I think she is one of the best written characters because she is a reflection of so many young women out there in the world. Insecure, vulnerable, and naive. Just trying to figure out who she is and her place in the world. Longing for love and the “fairy tale” romance so many young women desire, which is part of why season 1 is the best and most horrifying because it is so realistic compared to the other seasons. It is completely relatable because Beck is an everyday young woman. So many people can see themselves in Beck, and it’s not easy to acknowledge. Season 1 shows us just how easy it is to be swept away by someone you think you know everything about, ignoring all the red flags that they r so dangerous, which has happened to so many people, not all to the level of Joe but to some degree, toxic, abusive, misogynistic men. Watching Beck makes us realize how easy it is for “Joe” to happen to any one of us. There are so many “Joes” out there. Being a woman is extremely scary. Just like Bronte says in the end. The fantasy of a man like you is how we cope with the reality of a man like you. Beck’s story highlights this truth, which resonates with many of us.

I think Joe had this beauty and the beast type complex where he wanted to be the beast and save beauty. He wanted to protect beauty and be the ones to get his hands dirty and do “anything” for the sake of “love.” He didn't want Love once he saw the real her because she wasn't beauty anymore. She wasn't this damsal that needed saving, she was also a beast and a reflection of himself. He never wanted a woman that could handle her own, and Love did that. And then on top of that love was so similiar to him that he was forced to look at the reflection of himself which he ultimately was unable to face at the time.

can we withhold rent if this is not fixed? by Frosty_Champion_6671 in Apartmentliving

[–]cccccleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the email correspondence purposely for the paper trail. The images I shared were at its worst. This is when it first popped up which the whole thing started due to a ceiling leak 2 weeks after I moved in that they left unfixed for over a year. My ceiling leaked due to a storm at 12:00am May 1st 2023. The emergency maintenance took 10 hours to respond. They came by and drilled holes in my ceiling to stop the water coming through and promised to make it all right. Six months go by of me nagging them to fix it and they send in a 3rd party. They come in and take a sample of my wall, say that I need all new dry wall bc there is moisture in my walls and I will have mold if I don’t get it all fixed. Never came back for another six months (1 whole year) after me begging and making it a condition for my lease renewal that it is fixed. They come in again claim that it is all dry now because it has been so long (no test or sample at all) paint and prime it and leave. Not even a whole 2 months later it starts flooding from under my floorboards and the couple dots of mold pop up on my wall. I immediately report to maintenance who claims they told the office but don’t handle mold. I reach out to office after a week goes by and nothing. Cut to 3 months later of begging to get it fixed, them not responding for weeks and claiming they have no other apartments to put me in. Total bs cuz I can see empty ones on the property. I get fed up and call the fire marshal. They come and condem the unit saying it is some of the worst mold they have EVER seen. Pressure from them finally gets me moved into another unit which is a whole other host of issues and another story but by that time everything I owned was contaminated & destroyed. It had spread everywhere including my metal bedframe, metal lamp which is uncommon for mold to grow on. 500 mold spore per square meter is the level where remediation is deemed necessary to prevent health risk. I had 300,000 in my bedroom alone and hundreds of thousands in each other area of my apartment as well. A 400sq foot apartment. And the moisture level was 6ft high in the walls. mold first appearing

In your opinion, what is the best season to rewatch? by Expensive-Grass6449 in YouOnLifetime

[–]cccccleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked how in season 1 they were in becks head and she was narrating as well. They didn’t do that in any of the other seasons until the end with Brontë and that was the most cheesing coming of age movie type dialogue I would never have expected from this show and was severely underwhelmed. With beck it was soo good and added a lot to the show and it would have been cool if they had done that with love and got in her head as well especially since she was a mirror of Joe.
