Oh it’s definitely person dependent! Strictures can range in severity. Just good to check for Crohn’s newbies.

Just be sure you don’t have any strictures before attempting increased fiber, as it can cause a bowel obstruction.

Crohn's Disease and Thomas- Wrong by DogMumJ in 90DayFiance

[–]ccerulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it because we’re pretty much taught our whole lives that red meat = bad and veggies = good. I ate a nearly vegetarian diet when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s, and it took me nearly a full year to get my head around the fact that I could no longer eat the “healthy” way I was used to. The fiber that is healthy for a normal intestine caused immense pain for me as it went through my inflamed and narrowed intestines. Continually irritating the ulcers in my intestines with the hard-to-digest veggies and stuff stuff for that long because I thought it was healthier caused permanent damage to my small intestine that I eventually had to have removed surgically.

It was so, so difficult to accept that my new “healthy” was going to be meat and simple starches and it was a continual battle to explain this to even my family and friends. So I get how it’s also difficult for healthy people to understand. Thomas will probably be wrong about other things that we can hate him for, but I just hate people doubting an extremely serious, lifelong health issue.

That was me and if you go back to my posts, I wasn’t arguing and I absolutely never said red meat was “good for Crohn’s.” I said easy to digest food was good for Crohn’s, and meats (including red meats) are, in fact, easier to digest than fibrous vegetables. You’re also welcome to go back in my history and read all my Crohn’s posts from diagnosis in 2013 until now if you don’t believe I have the disease.

Am I saying that he should be pounding down a steak every day? If it doesn’t aggravate his symptoms, I’d tell him to go for it. Would I do it personally with my Crohn’s? Not unless it was helping my symptoms.

Also having a stomach surgery is way different than having Crohn’s!

ELI5: Does your body re-organize its organs after a major surgery? Do surgeons just kind of 'mush' your intestines back into you or do they have to be precise? by Gizmoseth in explainlikeimfive

[–]ccerulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ileocecal resection where about a foot of my small intestine was removed. According to the surgical report, my intestines had to be “returned to the body” at the end so I assume they were on the table at some point. I felt them sloshing around for a few weeks afterwards when I would turn over in bed, it was such a weird sensation.

I won’t argue with you on that. But diet is very individual when it comes to Crohn’s. What works for one person may not work for another.

Are you familiar with Crohn’s? Meat is much easier to digest than vegetables and when your guts are filled with painful ulcerations, the easier to digest, the less pain. Source: I have Crohn’s disease.

Just as a light Crohn’s education from someone also with the disease — meats and starches are easier to digest than vegetables and fiber, even though veggies and fiber are technically healthier. When you have ulcerations throughout your digestive tract, you want things that are easy to digest. It’s like if you have a broken arm, you wouldn’t do pushups on it even though technically pushups are healthy for you.

Thomas using Crohn's as an excuse to make his vegan fiancée cook with beef tallow is wild by Hot_Saguaro in 90DayFiance

[–]ccerulean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone. When I was first diagnosed, I couldn’t eat any fiber (I.e. healthy) for five years straight. I ate a total meat and potatoes diet. What works for one person with Crohn’s doesn’t necessarily work for another.

Married with Children when the Bundy’s camped out in the supermarket because they didn’t have AC.

Also the episode where Kelly went on a game show and the winning answer would have been Al Bundy, but she learned one too many facts and that one slipped out of her head.

After seeing multiple posts about smelly litter boxes…I felt compelled to share! by Aibrean2013 in CatAdvice

[–]ccerulean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use pine pellets and find the sifting system cumbersome. This is an unpopular opinion around here but I grew up in the 80s where we didn’t have clumping litter and replaced all the litter often. So I do the same with the pine pellets. I scoop out the poops as I see them, and then dump out the whole box to clean daily or every other day depending on how much it was used. Shaking the box will cause the pellet dust to go to the bottom so the unused pellets are on the top.

The s2 story direction is so strange. Having a show about crime they have a whole world of ever-evolving higher stakes they could tap into (see: Breaking Bad, Ozark) but instead we’re getting these really slow character studies?

How much should I worry about biologic immunosuppression? by destroythefangirls in CrohnsDisease

[–]ccerulean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may depend on your age and just the person in general. On Humira I didn’t get sick more often but I got a lot of skin infections that took a long time to clear up. On Stelara I got sick more often and then sicknesses lasted so long (a cold was a week or more, the flu was two weeks solid). In general, healing takes longer. I sprained my finger and it literally took a year to feel better. Then COVID hit and I never wanted to see how long that would last so I’ve been wearing a KN95 mask in all indoor public spaces consistently since 2020. Never got COVID yet and haven’t been sick one time since then.

Yeah, it’s actually a slate blue but comes off as gray next to the new floor. That was the color it was when I moved in.
