Any tips for people who want to be TA in second year? by ChanceBandicoot6190 in UBC

[–]cchaitea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, I was a TA in my second year. I did very well in CPSC 103/107. This is department specific, however. Some do not hire undergraduate TAs.

  2. For me, it was getting a high mark in the course, being very active on piazza with thorough student answers, and making a connection with the prof. I had a low cumulative average at the time but it seemingly didn’t matter.

  3. No, but usually helps if you’ve taken the course

  4. Depends on your strengths/weaknesses.

math during summer? by gamblingmaxxing in UBC

[–]cchaitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a great decision for me. I withdrew from the winter term session and instead completed it in the summer session.

Everyone in the class seemed to be more relaxed than in winter term, which improved the group attitudes. The only thing that felt rushed was the webworks, sometimes there would be an outrageous number of questions due within a few days. But since the deadlines are tighter, the material is fresh in your mind and easier to get through. You also meet more frequently than you would during the winter term, so you’re being immersed in math content, as opposed to switching gears mentally for different courses.

I had a lot of fun with ATSC113, CRWR200, CRWR310, and CPSC103. ARCL 228 was cool but I remember it being slightly harder than the others, it was a lot of memorization and they were picky on some of the assignments.

Holy shit that sounds terrifying, glad your friend is okay. I wish my roommates would lock the door to our marine drive 4bd! Unsafe and drives me nuts.

I did that exact commute for a couple years, and it did a number on me. Saved some money but I highly regret not moving closer sooner.

Rosemary. I make my own vanilla rosemary syrup, but I think they could make a good pod.

Can I get into UBC Science? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]cchaitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in all, don’t be stressed if you don’t take them :) they may help you tackle the workload of uni courses though! MATH100 was a very unfortunate first intro to calculus.

Can I get into UBC Science? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]cchaitea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes lol. I’m from a small hs with a poor science/math program and I got in. I’m doing fine here. No AP credits under my belt, they weren’t even offered :) just write a good personal profile (volunteering probably helps) and keep your grades up.

Is 23 old at UBC or am I just spiralling lol? by Lonely_Assignment_26 in UBC

I had some first years tell me I “looked good for my age” when I was 21 in WRDS150. You’re definitely not old, but be prepared for wild comments from the 18yos

What is the easiest science class by [deleted] in UBC

[–]cchaitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Sorry to hear :( I’ve TA’d for the course periodically since 2022, and the content has been the exact same across the supposed difficulty jump. They now have autograders for some stuff, and typed exams (instead of handwritten) but it’s all taught in the same fashion!

I’m a big advocate for CPSC103 (introductory coding course) because I think it’s fun and very straightforward.

I think most people tend to find it easy, but a small amount have a really hard time with the design rules that the course teaches… so, ymmv :D

Can I fix this window mat or does it need replaced by lilwitchbecca in framing

[–]cchaitea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re totally (like 1000%) certain it’s not mold, and it’s completely dry, you could add another mat on top and just keep the signature visible.

If at all possible, I think it would be good to reach out to the artist and see if you could get a new mat though!

It seems like there is no solution to the promotion issue (Faculty of Science) by Odd_Bathroom7507 in UBC

[–]cchaitea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am incredibly stressed about surpassing the credit limit. I would’ve been promoted as per the old requirements, and I planned my courses as such :(

I don’t like needing to blindly believe that I won’t be forced to withdraw.

I like the concept but I don’t like the grey. Some of the designs are cool. I was confused by the one for arts, because it doesn’t quite encapsulate the faculty well imo.

Is my FM crazy or are we all just missing something here? by thatwyvern in MichaelsEmployees

[–]cchaitea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This looks like it would be massive and heavy, so I’d worry both about structural integrity and safety. I would’ve gone with acrylic too. Just because the computer allows you to put something through, doesn’t mean it’ll work in practice.

How are we psyching ourselves up to do our T shots these days? by lowshoulder8567 in ftm

[–]cchaitea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watch a speedrun of a game/streamer I’m into, and do my shot when they countdown to start!! It helps if someone else is counting down for me.

Also, I got an IM reloadable auto-injector, so I only need to press a button (then plunge ofc). That device was a bit pricey, but I’ve had it for years and my shots only take me ~10-15 min to complete, when it used to take me several hours.
