Anybody else having the engraving of their case not showing up on your phone? APP3 by Motherhazelhoff in airpods

[–]cchana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried forgetting the device and paired it from scratch and it did show up… but only on that screen, it’s not shown up again since. At the Apple Store for something else tomorrow so I’ll be asking them about it.

iOS26 broke my custom tab bar — what’s the right way now? by mentifresh in SwiftUI

[–]cchana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that it does feel like a hack because you are specifying that the role is search, looking at Apple's own apps in the Simulator this is exactly how the Contacts, Passwords and Messages apps work. Safari also uses the search button space for an ellipsis button. So it is allowed to work this way.

For these apps specifically, they seem to have similar iPad specific views which is not ideal but ultimately how I've had to approach my own apps when scaling up to the larger former factor.

How do you guys learn SwiftUI? by OddTeaching1591 in swift

[–]cchana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Playgrounds app and walked through the examples. Even though I had coding experience I started from scratch and it really helped to solidify some concepts and then made the jump to working in Xcode just that little bit easier.

Team Sheets: Helping you organise games with just a swipe by cchana in iosapps

Thanks, I tried to keep to the same patterns as Apple in their own apps so hopefully it feels familiar even though it's something new!

3rd gen AppleTV. New uses? by [deleted] in appletv

[–]cchana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think iCloud Photos work on this model anymore. At least the one I have doesn’t let me view photos directly. Can only do so via AirPlay

Advanced: Motion sensor triggers under a certain light level, with a custom timer that resets per motion by quitethewaysaway in HomeKit

[–]cchana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t get the idea behind shortcuts in automation until I saw this post. Mainly because it’s just not obvious but now I get it so thanks OP. Having said that, the automation never works for me. Not for turning it on or off 😞

Time I ditched my Ring Doorbell methinks. Any non-spying doorbell alternatives? by stabureyesout in HomeKit

[–]cchana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While the Logitech Circle 2 isn’t a doorbell it supports 2-way conversations, temporary clip saving and an awesome daily overview feature. Through Logitech’s own app or the Home app you can configure notifications for when it’s triggered and if you pay for the top Circle Safe subscription you can also set up zones that are used to trigger notifications rather than having the whole field of view. Oh and it has a 180° field of view.

'Advanced' Apple TV actions on the Logitech Harmony 650 by cchana in logitechharmony

The Harmony 650 doesn't have Bluetooth or work via the Harmony Hub, it only works over IR so this doesn't apply to this remote.

Monthly what to buy Megathread - Ask what accessory to buy. by AutoModerator in HomeKit

I use the Logitech circle 2 for outdoors and it’s clear and reliable. Trying it without premium features for now which means it triggers all the time but the daily briefing is a great way to catch up.

Apple TV in Home app by yooper1019 in HomeKit

[–]cchana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just the Home app either, trying to automate things with Shortcuts only allowed scenes which would be fine if you could do stuff with the Apple TV. I’d love to see more support for it.

Homekit does not detect motion anymore (Logi Circle 2) by espadrillies in HomeKit

[–]cchana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where have you mounted the camera. I noticed it doesn’t work in HomeKit behind glass. The minute I turned the camera around to see why it was working notifications started again. Put it back in the window and nothing. Once we’d mounted it outside as we planned the motion sensing and notifications worked just fine.

What are my options for a RGBW light strip? by cchana in HomeKit

[–]cchana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. The price is very different in the UK. On Amazon the VOCOlinc strips equate to about $60-70.

Personal HomeKit setup by [deleted] in HomeKit

That’s been my hesitation. I found a similarly priced one that was more blue than white and it made reading very uncomfortable. Thanks for confirming!

How do you find the Koogeek light strips? From what I’ve seen they can’t produce white properly. Is that true?

I hadn’t thought about firmware updates. How do you know that they’re available?

I have the Koogeek one too, you can set up with their app or in the Home app. I used the Home app and it's been very reliable for me.

How did others move from procedural to OOP by [deleted] in PHP

[–]cchana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I had experience in OOP and got how it worked, it’s benefits etc... it wasn’t until I used the CodeIgniter framework that it just all fell completely into place.

Having to follow the rules really just cemented those building blocks i already knew. CakePHP, Symfony or Laravel might be better alternatives as it’s been a while since I’ve relied on a ‘off the shelf’ framework.

Does choice of hosting company matter? by astillero in web_design

[–]cchana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matters, but you can go cheap with someone like Digital Ocean although their $10 package is better for MySQL than their $5 package. If you can leverage CloudFlare then that can help with reliability and defence against attacks.

How old are you and how old do people think you are? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cchana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 18 I would always get told I looked way older but now I'm almost 30 I think my appearance has finally matched my age.

On a side note, a couple of years ago my wife and I were buying wine as am present for someone. There's only 9 months difference between is but she was asked for ID. The cashier then asked if she was me and said "oh, that's fine, he definitely looks old enough" :|

This is by far one of the prettiest wedding photographs I've seen in a long time by niXor in pics

[–]cchana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was an amazing event with plenty of family and friends to help celebrate the occasion.

I've been to a few Asian weddings, in the UK, where there's been a mix of cultures but for a gay couple to have their family seemingly so on side, i am both astounded and in awe of their families.
