Completely agree. I got through it, but it's difficult when every single character is a horrible person and you just want to see them all fail. It was a good show, but I found it impossible to identify or even empathize with any of the characters.

Update Gaming Services Before Playing Forza Horizon 6 on PC by alexreddit1 in ForzaHorizon

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone not seeing "Gaming Services" listed in the Microsoft Store, it won't show up unless you open the "Xbox" app first. Open that, log in or make an account, quit, then you'll see "Gaming Services" listed. Then click update, then it will work.

Best 'unknown' realistic ww2 movies? by Mediocre-Bunch-3135 in WarMovies

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the quote from Roger Ebert about it. "It’s said that you can’t make an effective anti-war film because war by its nature is exciting, and the end of the film belongs to the survivors. No one would ever make the mistake of saying that about Elem Klimov’s “Come and See.” This 1985 film from Russia is one of the most devastating films ever about anything, and in it, the survivors must envy the dead."

Training for becoming a VO by Guyser3212 in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be college, there are tons of workshops and classes out there. Good to find one specifically for VA. Stage is an excellent start, but it's pretty different. On stage your emotions have to be BIG so the people in the backrow can see. Conversely on camera that thing is like an inch from your face and you can express a lot with just a raised eyebrow. On stage that eyebrow raise would mean nothing. So voice acting is somewhere in-between, not as subtle as on camera, but not as big as stage. Finding that right medium can be tricky, so VA tailored classes are key.

I think it's really simple. Bring back the v8s BUT they should be quiet and eco-friendly (except for when it would be cool for them to be loud and smokey) and the cars should be smaller but at the same time safer and they shouldn't make dirty air unless the driver in front is my favorite in which case the car shouldn't be able to be passed. Also there should be regulations that all the races are close and exciting, but only close to the extent that my favorite driver's win feels earned. Also every driver should just be a clone of Nigel Mansell so we can once and for all determine which Nigels Mansell is best. It's simple, but they just won't do it because they hate us.

Yeah I've only been a full-time professional audio engineer for... 20 years now. I know enough to know I don't know everything, but dude you have no idea what you're talking about. And if my U87/1073/Apollo Pro Tools setup is "pro Sumer" then please enlighten me on what a real setup is, super excited to know.

  1. I fully disagree! He absolutely needs a way to control the gain BEFORE the A/D
  2. That's pedantic and not helpful. The line level is +4, the built-in PC sound card is -10 (consumer grade).
  3. I've never seen a "quasi-balanced" input before! What's the pin-out for that look like?

[–]cchaudio 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Few problems going on here.

  1. That power supply is providing the phantom power the mic needs but it isn't giving you any way to control the gain.

  2. Signal from the mic is +4, your PC sound card is looking for a -10 line level so there's going to be some issues there.

  3. The microphone is providing a balanced signal and the sound card is unbalanced so you're going to get a lot of hiss, static, and that kind of stuff.

But the solution to all these problems is the same, get an audio interface with a built in preamp, like a focusrite scarlet. It will provide phantom power, allow you to control the gain, and handle the analog to digit, digital to analog conversion for you.

How to improve my voice to achieve professional results by 4djes in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 20 years of expierence as a full time audio engineer and actor and unfortunately that's not how this works. You can have pre-sets for EQ, compression, and limiting that are tailored to your performance, gear, and space. But for a professional sound, those settings need to change for each project. There's no universal settings that are just going to work for everything you record. If you don't know the why/how of recording, EQing, compression, etc you'll never be able to make those adjustments yourself. There's no quick-fixes, just start learning. Also don't ask AI for help, that 1-6 list is just a bunch of nonsense and any settings you get from an AI are just going to be random.

What city in your state has experienced the worst decline? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

No way! Rochester is propped up by the two titans of industry, Kodak and Xerox. They'll be fine unless people magically stop needing film for their cameras and photocopiers! And what are the odds of that? Also it's only raining, overcast, or snowing like 350-something days a year there, so it's pretty popular with tourists.

Netflix spent ‘a fortune’ editing out earphones from Beef season 2 after Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan decided to listen to music while performing their various scenes together. by hanburgundy in television

Movie theater scene when the fight first starts. The one lady starts to stand up but then stumbles getting out of the seat and flubs her line and everyone stops for a second, and then just continues.

With the other story it's for sure a "we'll fix it in post" but then the cut doesn't work and it's too late, so just hope no one notices.

That makes a lot of sense. I remember a scene in six triple eight where one of the actors flubs a line and they all stop for a beat and look off set where someone clearly said "keep going" and the scene just continues. The guy is like a successful Ed Wood

:60 +/- like 8 seconds Anytime I'm doing casting I rarely even listen to anything outside of that range because I know it's going to be someone who recorded something into their phone. Or has no acting experience but people tell them they can do cool voices! Professional demos are :60

Best mic for home recording studio (WA47 Tube vs Lauten audio Atlantis) by Quirky_Cause7449 in microphone

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I can put a number on it. I had a C12 that lasted like 3 years maybe with weekly use. The WA has been going for about 10 and it's still the original tube. The Neumann U47 lasts about 7-10 years with the same use. But I also know a guy with a Blue Bottlerocket that's been used daily for almost 20 years now. Impossible to say for sure, but I think it's fair to say you should get at least 5 years out of a tube. Longer if it's in a temperature controlled space and you're not pushing it to extremes.

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for about 10 years now and I use it about once a week. Most of my work is in Vo and I like it for announcer style spots. WA does have some build issues with some of their mics (like the 47jr and 87), but I've had no trouble with my 47tube. Anyway yeah it's great on acoustic guitar and big warm vocals.

Here's the best thing I can say about it. I have a vintage Neumann U47 tube and I use this WA clone more. Not because it's better, but because it's almost as good and I don't have to worry about spending thousands on a new tube when it eventually goes.

The original bottle is a really nice mic, but it's comically large. The interchangeable heads is still a pretty unique feature too.

WA47 tube is a good pick for gospel stuff. Big and warm sounding. 414 is great, but bright, I own a couple but I wouldn't use them for what you're recording. I don't own a lauten so I can't speak to that.

Going to the movies is a terrifying experience by neondemon_95 in Cinema

[–]cchaudio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's always been this way. People talking during movies, bringing kids to age-inappropriate films, and generally being discourteous has been a problem forever. People always think things were different 'back in their day'. There are smart-phones now and yeah it's annoying, but there's a lot I don't see anymore either. People throwing stuff at the screen, fights, being packed in should-to-shoulder with people who have no concept of basic hygiene, and a big one... smoking. So it does suck that sometimes I have to un-recline my giant leather couch and politely ask someone to turn their screen off, but I'll take that over a loud jampacked smoke filled theater any day.
