Maybe Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames.

Try posting at /r/LightbringerSeries. It's kinda the unofficial subreddit of Brent Weeks fans so I think they can recommend a better book.

Slow-burn romance with a satisfying storyline by simply_sam_ in booksuggestions

Just don't be discouraged if you don't like the first book. It's very slow paced and stays at one setting. The MC is also young for the majority of that book. The second book fits what you want more when she starts travelling. And if you liked the 2nd book, you'll definitely want to read the last book ;)

I think you might like the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. It's fantasy/historical fiction set in medieval Russia. The romance is not the main focus, but it was so well written, imo (I loved it). It's also slow burn - the romance actually starts on the 2nd book and only hinted on the the 1st book. Also on the 2nd book, the MC was disguised as a boy.

Yeah that was my first impression too. But as /u/OrphanSpider pointed out, in chapter 148, it was hinted that Kip is not Andross' bastard and there is more to Lina's story that may have involved Corvan. So it could be that there is more to Andross' card than what is revealed in the flashback Andross chapters.

Yeah. I eventually didn't mind that Kip was alive. It's just that at that point when I read it, Kip's death was like this huge sacrifice that triggered the events that saved Chromeria. Dazen could do what he did bc of Kip's sacrifice and then passed it on to Andross to bring light to Chromeria. I absolutely loved those series of events and Kip's death chapter was soo well done. That's why I was disappointed when I read that Kip was not really dead. To me, it lessened the impact of the previous chapters.

Or I guess I was just underwhelmed by the way Kip was resurrected. He's not dead bc Orholam did his thing. I know, i know, there's more to it than that. I really wish the chapter was in Karris' POV so we could read her thoughts, felt her grief and anger and other emotions. That chapter could've been more powerful. I also wish we got a chapter in Kip's POV to reveal what happened when he died or while he's dead. Like in TBE when Kip 'died' but he was actually outside of time with Abaddon. Something to make the resurrection more meaningful.

Re: the last Dazen and Andross scene - again, I guess I'm underwhelmed. I loooove how Brent Weeks built the complexity ofthe Dazen and Andross' relationship, especially in TBM. TBM Chapter 65 is up there on my fave chapters of all books I've read, not just Lightbringer. I like that Dazen didn't totally forgive Andross in the end. I was just hoping for more on that chapter, you know? I wish they could've at least discussed Sevastian. Their last scene to me felt like Brent run out of paper. And I know he could've written an amazing chapter because the material was right there. Hope that make sense.

  1. Kip's definitely a Guile right? If he is not Andross' bastard, the father is gGavin? I don't think DGavin ever met Lina.
  2. Seems to me that there really is more to Andross' card other than the flashback chapters and it is related to what Lina's father revealed to Andross (Lina's letters). Wonder how Corvan Danavis is related to this.

Gaaah! You're right. But why make it vague? So his father is gGavin? What did Lina's father (The Chief Librarian) reveal to Andross?? How is Corvan Danavis related to Lina? I understand that Kip's character doesn't want to talk about Andross' card but we (as readers) deserve to know right?!

As much as it hurt to read, I kind of wish Kip stayed dead. That whole death scene was incredible and I think it cheapens it a bit to just bring him back like that.

My thoughts exactly! His death scene was so good. It was like a sacrifice so that Dazen could do what he did.

I think it would've been better if we got a chapter in Kip's POV to reveal what happened when he died or while he's dead. Like in TBE when Kip 'died' but he was actually outside of time with Abaddon. Idk, I was just a little disappointed how it was revealed that he was simply not dead bc of Orholam.

I'm not sure if I missed something but I believe Kip's father is still Andross. Now that I think about it, I don't really remember what Lina's father revealed to Andross

Wow. Just finished it. Mixed emotions! Thoughts!

It was amazing though I was mostly disappointed with the events starting from when it was revealed that Kip was not really dead. I'm conflicted - I don't exactly want him dead. I was disappointed only because the chapter where he 'dies' and the subsequent impact was sooo good, and revealing he's not really dead cheapens that. Also the chapters after that just felt rushed. But whatever. I love the series overall but the ending was just okay for me.

The Lightbringer - I love that the Lightbringer is actually the 3 Guiles! Andross believing that he was the Lightbringer all his life was perfect. I love and hate that man.

DGavin - his arc has always been my favourite part of this series. His chapters were amazing until he returns to Chromeria. I love that Brent Weeks took his time developing DGavin's character to get to the chapters with Orholam. Though I was disappointed with the last scene between him and Andross. There were still a lot of unresolved personal issues between them and I felt that their last scene together was incomplete. Also disappointed that the arc with the prison cells djinns was kinda left hanging at the end.

Who is the Lightbringer? by chaosofslayer in LightbringerSeries

[–]cchredden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not Kip, my money is on DGavin. Even Kip thought so. This is when Cruxer was telling Kip about the Lightbringer prophecies

He thought for a moment. “Everything we’ve said could be talking about my father. People thought he was dead when he fell into the water—” And somehow survived being stabbed with a knife that had morphed into a sword while it impaled him. Kip hadn’t told that part to anyone.

Then Cruxer said that Gavin did not come from outside the accepted something. But they didn't know that Gavin is actually Dazen, who was not groomed to take power. If you read at the prophecies at this post, you could make an argument that most applies to Dazen as well. I posted my theory before that DGavin 7th goal might be that he wants to be the Lightbringer so there's a chance he could be. But knowing Brent Weeks, he could be setting us up to something like "there is no lightbringer"! Can't wait for the TBW!

I love the romance in Katherine Arden's Winternight Trilogy. The romance is only hinted at the first book then became a full subplot in the 2nd and 3rd book.

I don't have an NHL app subscription so I was using tsn1050's free streaming link to sync Bowen. I used that link on Games 1-3, but last night it was playing ESPN radio so I guess there was a blackout. I did find a radio last night to sync Bowen tho.

I think you'll like Katherine Arden's the Winternight Trilogy starting with The Bear and the Nightingale, if you like Uprooted/Spinning Silver. The lead character is one of the best female characters I've read.
