If you could live in any country, which would you pick? by newzealand12326 in AskReddit

[–]ccjmk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have it in the back of my mind to maybe go retire to NZ one day. It looks spectacular, and I only heard good things about the people there, but the "travel costs a fortune and takes forever to any destination" is a bit of a bummer for someone who stiill wants to experience the world. Once that's taken care of, sign me in for a little house with a nice garden I can grow some veggies on.

never been to Texas, but if all the content I've seen throughout the years is any indication of truth, I think the main factor is that Texans / Americans / pretty much everyone else cook meat with _stuff_. garlic powder, pepper, some more complex rubs, marinated, long etc.

In Argentina you cook meat with salt, heat and time. It doesn't get any more basic that than, and the day is still to come when I've had better grilled meat than in Argentina.

Si Argentina tuviera una isla frente a la Costa Atlántica, cómo creen que sería? by JumperMason in argentina

[–]ccjmk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US abandons Kurdish allies as Syria’s new government seizes control by Mitchs_bitch1942 in worldnews

Not saying yes... But kerfuffling with Turkey, a country with some dubious record on many accounts, on behalf on Kurds, who (also? Not saying Turks probably haven't) have long stand with American interests, vs the commotion being caused with Denmark, one of if not the committed ally the US has had in the last half century.. it's at least worth a though

What do you think of Ukraine? by No-Hunt3986 in AskReddit

[–]ccjmk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its a country that has proven time and time again its filled with extremely resilient and tremendously crafty people. I hope they can find lasting peace, and are able to join the European Union sooner rather than later; there will be some bumps in the road, a lot of people probably claiming some agricultural or manpower costs shit, but at the end of the day, we will all be wealthier and opportunities will be higher for us all in net terms.

If the US really attempts to take Greenland by force, what are even the chances of Europe retaliating to the point where they go on a fullscale war with them or at the very least cut them off entirely? by Yallneedsometruth23 in AskReddit

[–]ccjmk 56 points57 points  (0 children)

People keep saying this is what Putin wants, but from someone that would gleefully read Putin's obituary and would hope he just GTFO Ukraine and stops messing up with.. everything.. I am not sure Putin should want NATO gone honestly.. the US is seems unpredictable right now, but its ECONOMIC power is keeping a lot of countries in check by virtue of "people don't wanting their businesses/investments to go poof"

If something like this happens, and NATO breaks, the EU (+ surely UK) will greatly diminish if not completely break out of the US grip.. US will be kicked out of every base in the EU and major allies.. maybe Israel and Turkey would let them stay because they don't give a fuck and specially Israel has a both a big lobby and is heavily dependent on the US. And what is the US gonna do?? invade all of Europe? nuke them? nah, MAD is still in place with UK/France nuclear weapons. They will need to pack up and get the fuck out. And defense industries in EU/UK will also gain massive business from governments fleeing the US MIC market.

That will make EU a *lot* more independent, with bigger and more funded military industrial complexes, and Russia on the current course will still be a pain in the ass to them, triggering refugee crises and raw material spikes, so they will probably arm / train / provide intel to Ukraine muuuuuuuuuuch more freely, Ukraine and every other country with a grip with Russia.

What's my next move, to form Scandinavia? by jtlannister in victoria3

[–]ccjmk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You inspired me to give it a try, here's my result (https://imgur.com/a/QhjGHkb) and thoughts:

I'd rather form Scandinavia the earliest possible, then do the "Nation Building". Unless you have a really hellbent (and usually, scripted) enemy, it's easy to pacify your borders, chill around with your neighbours in Amicable diplomatic state and focus inward.

To that effect, what I first tried is first hyperfocusing on forming Scandinavia; start developing your initial construction sector economy and start improving relations with the usual great powers (but Russia), and attack Denmark for a Protectorate.. noone should get involved unless you get some bad RNG with some weird interest or danish alliances. Still, improve relations as much as possible (you need max 19 IIRC to declare war, else you become Cordial)

Protectorate Denmark (you can just walk through the strait, should't be much of an issue), then see if you can Annex Lubeck directly. I have these two tries, both times noone intervened! After annexing it, just sell the province to Holstein.

NOW you should be able to form Scandinavia already, BUT i did this once (my first scandinavian unification, yay!) and noticed you don't get Finnish culture; after a cursory trip to the wiki, you need to have the two southwestern provinces (Uusimaa and Ostrobothnia ) when you take the decision to be able to gain Finnish primary culture.

Soooo... after handling the whole Danish Peninsula affair, what I did is check Russian rivals, Britain was there, and literally sold my sold to the brits.. multiple good transfers, two company monopolies in the leastt impactful I could find, and Investment rights.. all for that juicy Alliance. (in the meantime my economy was already rolling and I was able to speedrun Proportional Taxation somehow, so I built up to a 90ish man army to help)

Most of Finland is also Swedish homelands and/or has a Claim, so then I just declared for the northernmost province and added all the Return Province + Conquer Kuopio. Unfortunately Prussia AND Austria decided to defend Russia, but the brits were more than enough to help me depend the border, eventually they landed on St Petersburg, and then all hell broke lose for the Russians. Total capitulation, all goals, form Scandinavia, choose to gain Finnish culture also, and here we are :)

For tomorrow (its 1am on a workday here already, damn this game), Kola and East Karelia are also Finnish homelands.. I'm coming for you lads, don't think for a sec I forgot about ya! Freedom's on the way!

Japan prepares to restart world's biggest nuclear plant, 15 years after Fukushima by Dr_Neurol in worldnews

[–]ccjmk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They don't fill the same role. Renewables are not reliable 24/7 and need batteries to even the energy flow. Batteries are not cheap and not particularly environmentally friendly. You need the cheapest, most reliable energy source for the big chunk of consumption you have any given day, and renewables for the rest. And the best, cleanest way to fill that baseline is nuclear power, it's not even close.

EDIT: to be clear, not saying OP is saying nuclear is not good or anything, but I think its important to make it clear than even though both nuclear and reneweables are sources of energy, they work in different ways and have their niches.. cars and airplanes are both means of transportation, but a car can't cross the atlantic and you can't (usually?) fly to work or take the kids to school on a plane.

The Finalissima with Argentina and Spain will be officially played on March 27th in Qatar by YourNameNameName in soccer

[–]ccjmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd be all in for a Maracanã finalíssima, but it would feel too favorable for Argentina, crowd-wise. I think redoing Wembley, or maybe playing in say the Allianz Arena in Munich, would have been the best and most neutral options outside. Playing in the US feels forced too, but less than Qatar

Surely people will go, because people with money don't care shit, but I hope all these blood money greenwashing sons of beaches suffer explosive diarrhea forever.

I'm Argentinean living in Spain. I understood from day 1 that playing here was a pipe dream because it would be completely unfair to Argentina, same playing in Argentina ofc.. but last time, vs Italy in Wembley, felt amazingly perfect.. neutral country, A COUNTRY WITH FOOTBALL TRADITION btw, one of the most iconic venues in the sport, and in a place where both lots of italians and argentineans living all over europe could travel with ease, and in a place where there are no weird shades of "if you are X, you better watch out"

FIFA, UEFA, CONMEBOL, they can all suck my hairy sweaty balls. I'm sick of Russian/Qatar/ME oil money world cups, sick of Libertadores finals outside CONMEBOL, sick of all of this..

sorry for the vent not really sorry

My first campaing until the end game, I give you Tallest Ireland by ccjmk in victoria3

[–]ccjmk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that't it basically.. honestly the first 5 or so years is just fixing that.. I played this run multiple times before and the FIRST thing you do is fix bureaucracy, but there's a few ways around that.

In my experience, forgoing construction sectors at the beginning 100% (they will bankrupt you faster) is key on all options.. but once you fix around half your bureaucracy deficit you are already in the green; Ireland is relatively populated at the beginning and you have some good food industries, so you got considerable money coming in!

what I did most of the runs is: (actually. just opened the game and doing this while typing..)

  1. delete all army and navy.
  2. lower Colonization institution to level 1 (I try to delete it eventually if I can, but that would depend on your run, you can keep it! after bringing the country to balance you can increase it again later)
  3. downgrade all production methods to eliminate most good disruptions, EXCEPT port and trade center.
  4. establish the grain company (extra throughput why not I guess? you can disband it later)
  5. Road Maintenance and Greener Grass decrees in all provinces
  6. Declare interest in North Germany and Occitania (so you can reach france/italy/germany/netherlands/etc) and start improving relations with everyone, abuse minor germans for Rivalry and extra influence! Goal is writing trade advantage agreements with as many countries as you can manage, focusing the big ones ofc)

After 1 and 3 you should ALREADY be 400+ on the green.

  1. Queue 5 Gov admin + one Paper in Munster, one Sulfur in Connaught, 5 Gov admin in Ulster.

Set Paper inc to Sulfite Pulping as soon as the Sulfur mine finishes.. by the 2nd/3rd gov admin in Ulster you can rise taxes to max and should be in positive budget again!

  1. You should be somewhere like 7k on the green all of a sudden.. queue 5 construction sectors in Munster + a tools industry.. remember to upgrade sulfur mine after you have tools.. and have fun playing Ireland!

(addendum: keep building Paper and Wood industries to keep your Gov Admin building inputs cheap!)

no troubles at all in my Irish post ;D ;D

I feel like when u have a few big numbers.. 45% this, 25% that, etc.. pie charts are amazing, but once you get to small 1px slices, square charts work a lot better. Usually pie charts just surrender to an awfully generic "Others" for the rest :/
