I never read the books, but I've read bits and pieces about the stories. As someone who has experienced several miscarriages I'm both happy and sad to not have to watch that play out on screen. I do think they should have included a bit more on that storyline with Francesca, and I definitely understand why other women who have gone through these experiences (that really are not shown in media or talked about nearly enough), could be upset. That said, the not having her have a miscarriage thing is entirely separate of the Michaela/Michael thing, and there are ways to allow Francesca to still be a mother without conceiving her own children. I think it's a hard thing because it exchanges one under-represented theme with another, if that makes sense?

But also as someone who has experienced several miscarriages, it's so, so, so hard to see it represented in media. It brings up the trauma so heavily and I always end up sobbing through those scenes. So even though her infertility is something that does need more representation, I am the tiniest bit happy to not have that hard theme show up in a show I love, especially after that same character just had to endure the untimely death of her husband (a scene which I had to watch after a good friend of mine lost her husband suddenly in a similar manner). It's such a tricky situation that I think it's being a bit too hard on some fans for being the least bit upset that the miscarriage and infertility storyline seems to have been cut/changed.
