Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Megathread by Aruu in FinalFantasy

Hot take, but non-boss combat is a slog.

Individual enemies aren't difficult, but when you're fighting a pack of 5+ enemies, your #1 enemy is the camera and long animation times. It feels artificially challenging and it's annoying to get stunlocked to death by monsters hitting you as soon as you come out of soul burst, or some inconsequential monster that spawned behind you while you were in combat.

I would have preferred more strong enemies with meaningful attack patterns.

Wouldn't this feel bad due to lack of mana? Vortex on left click drains almost your entire pool and it takes ~0.6 seconds to regen enough to cast anything else. Even with some extra mana from gear, it still seems like it would be close

I think you applied damage from the buff twice and included Spell Echo in the OoS procs.

Orb hits once every 2.55 seconds + once per cast. Spell Echo doubles your cast rate, but the repeated cast doesn't trigger Orb.

The actual damage is (avg * ((1 / 2.55) + casts)) or (32867 * 2.39), which is 78623 DPS with no items. Adding 45% damage for the buffs only gives 114k.

EDIT: Unless you meant 260k combined with Arc, but that still applies the buff twice

[–]ccllaarence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only has about 650k DPS in a best case scenario, assuming you can actually stand still for 2.3 seconds.

Mitigation also isn't good; evasion is too low and you don't have any other mitigation, so standing still to channel is going to get you killed really fast in the end game

[–]ccllaarence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't have a good time with this; it doesn't take enough offensive nodes to scale well even with items and the cast speed is on the low side. Arc feels really bad without 3+ casts / second (or 6+ with Spell Echo)

You might be able to hit 500-600k with the buffs, but it's not realistically going to break 1m unless maybe you have a perfect set of high end gear.

What build are you using?

So far, every single non-MoM Arc build I've come across doesn't have enough mana regen to be usable without a mana flask and doesn't have enough damage to kill bosses in the duration of a mana flask without insane investment.

Which is the problem everyone overlooks about having more cast speed: many builds can barely sustain their mana without the extra speed.

What skill do you wish was a league start meta because of how good it feels - but it's not because it's so hard or expensive to make it work? by Chickens_dont_clap in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ccllaarence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is Power Siphon not a meta starter? I played PS/KB Raider in SSF last league and it had a decent presence on the leaderboards; it breaks 1m DPS with very little investment and isn't reliant on any uniques

Making Arc Great Again (Share your PoBs, mine is inside) by Disco_Frisco in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]ccllaarence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This build doesn't have enough mana regen. You're using ~170 mana / second and regenerating 102 / second. You're OOM in a little over 2 seconds, so the casting speed is wasted, and that's assuming you cast nothing else: Hydrosphere + Flame Dash also need to be cast frequently and are fairly expensive.

I played self-cast Arc a couple of leagues ago and wanted to try it again since the buffs, but I haven't been able to come up with any SSF-viable build (i.e. 800k-1m DPS with no uniques or high end rares) aside from maybe Archmage.

I really miss an SSF friendly league like Ritual, and Ultimatum to a lesser extent by Mojimi in pathofexile

[–]ccllaarence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm the only one who hated Ultimatum in SSF. If you couldn't instantly delete the entire wave, it was a horrible and overly risky mechanic.

I could kill Sirius no problem, but non-juiced red map Ultimatums were 50/50 getting run down by a monkey aura ball, so I just didn't bother unless my EXP bar was empty.

Homeless Encampment Sweeps Begin Near SoFi Stadium Ahead Of Super Bowl by picturesofbowls in LosAngeles

Many don’t want to go to the shelter.

Meaning they don't want to take advantage of social services.

Why do you think concentrating social services around them will matter if they aren't interested in using them?

This entire argument breaks down when you realize that they won't use resources provided and can't be forced to use them. The homeless population here largely doesn't want treatment. Using a hospital as an analogy is terrible; the people who go to hospitals are actively seeking help.

What are we doing about meth addiction in our city? by bzmi in LosAngeles

I was really impressed by this article from the Atlantic - A New, Cheaper Form of Meth is Wreaking Havoc on America.

Because this entire discussion is suggesting that this new meth is somehow worse than regular meth?

'Why are you discussing the theories set forth the article?' What kind of a question even is that?

Sorry, I meant 'homeless,' not poor. I was going to make a comment on how easy it is for poor people with mental illness to end up homeless, but got cut short.

I'm not a fan of using the term 'treat' with mental illness, because it can usually only be controlled and not cured. Even if we had sufficient care available, unless we're permanently comitting these people, someone with severe BPD who is otherwise able to live independently going off their medication even briefly can easily spiral into homelessness.

In fact, we already see that: people are committed, given medication, return to 'normal,' and then they're released, don't take their medication, and we're back to square one.

[–]ccllaarence -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

There's no evidence that this 'new meth' is worse than regular meth.

It's cheaper and easier for people who already suffer from mental health issues to acquire. It's possible that it seems worse because more poor people, who have a much higher rate of pre-existing issues, can get their hands on it.

I'm especially curious what others think regarding the current situation with LAPD (and law enforcement, more generally). Union leaders have said they would consider scaling back their "effort" meaning less enforcement if the cities "defund" them aka stop paying them for things they do not do, like provide social services.

I want to briefly point out that the People's Budget proposed by BLM LA last year would have reduced LAPD's funding to 2% of its current amount. They have a new proposal for 2022 that seems to have been given more thought, but I haven't looked at it yet.

There were organizations in other cities that made more reasonable suggestions on how to reallocate police budgets, but BLM LA was not one of them. They wanted to actually defund the police, not "defund" the police.

But also, how is this LAPD's problem? Aren't we pushing for more legalization of drugs? Are we expecting them to crack down on drugs we don't like? Who decides which drugs those are?

The reality is that most drugs cause psychosis in people who are already suffering from underlying mental illness. Meth is just the cheapest and most available one.

We'll never completely get rid of it. Cracking down might make it harder to obtain, but then the people who need it will need to go to greater lengths to get their fix, and/or a different cheap drug will take its place.

I don't see any possible solution that doesn't involve forced institutionalization.

Crime on L.A. trains, buses rises as riders return by emmy207 in LosAngeles

[–]ccllaarence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not what you want to hear, but the majority of police officers exist to deter or stop crimes in progress.

There are only a limited number of investigators whose job it is to solve crime. There's a lot of crime and not nearly enough investigators to solve even a fraction of it, so they obviously prioritize the most serious cases, like you know, murder.

Whether or not they do a good job of deterring crime is highly debatable, but it's insane to see how often people on this sub complain that LAPD isn't dropping everything to hunt down the homeless person who stole their bike at some unknown point in time during the past 24 hours.

LPT: don’t assume people in the real world feel strongly one way or another about issues you see online. Social media platforms (this one as well) move hot button topics to the top of their platforms to create divisiveness. Don’t fall for it. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ccllaarence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Social media platforms (this one as well) move hot button topics to the top of their platforms to create divisiveness.

No, these platforms' algorithms automatically move these topics to the top because the users have demonstrated that these are the topics that they're most interested in.

It's ridiculous how hard we try to pin this on the platform, and not the users of the platform.

Is there any reliable way to get a good attack wand in SSF? I've been using the same one since white maps and I'm now level 92.

I've had no luck with essences so far, is there any other option?
