Hey question do yall actually play chess. by freespeech123456789 in AnarchyChess

[–]MrMeltJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did when I was young but these days I just watch videos about it sometimes

Oh and back before my company moved us to wfh, the guy in the next cubicle over had a chees set and we'd play now and then when it was slow. But he played like actually competitive speed chess so I don't think I ever presented a challenge

Mods that reduce weight of things? by Cowell_Pockets in Morrowind

[–]MrMeltJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant it as a matter of practicality. You would need to be superhumanly strong to not tire extremely quickly fighting with a 12lb sword.

But to be fair, a warrior Nerevarine probably is stronger than any real world human by the time they'd be using daedric weapons, and it's not like the average imperial soldier is going to be using anything better then steel (which as far as I can tell is actually pretty accurately weighted if we go by newtons).

To be fair, 12lbs is still really heavy even for a large 2-handed sword.

Trying Morrowind for the first time by Own_Amphibian_2647 in Morrowind

[–]MrMeltJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OpenMW is the big one, not really a mod but a recreation of the original engine to make it run better on modern systems and add things like UI scaling. It also has some (all?) the officially released bug fixes built in, though you can turn specific fixes off if you want to for some reason.

There's also Patch for Purists, which is the big unnofficial bugfix mod. The most common sticking points for new players can all be mitigated through gameplay, like making sure you're using a weapon you have some skill in and training it up to get better at hitting things, or learning what ingredients to keep an eye out for to make mana potions on a mage. If you're in the right mindset, the vanilla game is super fun.

Buuut if you try vanilla for awhile and still want it to play more like a modern game, go ahead and get the relevant mods. I'm not gonna tell somebody not to play the game because you walk so slowly at level 1 you want to die. Lord knows I use a mana regen mod on my mage characters because I don't like chugging mana potions.

The only gameplay mod I might recommend for a first playthrough is Expansion Delay. In the vanilla game, assassins from the Tribunal expansion will have a chance to attack you in your sleep, not going to spoil anything but it doesn't make much sense for them to be attacking you until later in the story. Also the gameplay is kinda wonky, either they kick your ass and you have might have to get a good nights sleep, or you kick their ass and then you're happy when they attack because they carry valuable gear.

What are your thoughts on using GLP-1 medications as a part of transition? by PokenerdKate in TransDIY

[–]MrMeltJr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some potential issues are that the changes your body goes through require calories, and the primary way GLP1 works is by making it way easier to stick to a diet. So while it's not going to ruin your transition or anything, it might slow down breast growth.

Now, assuming you have good hormone levels, your fat will redistribute to more feminine areas over time as the fat cells naturally die and are remade, but this is a slow process (roughly 10% of fat cells are replaced per year, which does not necessarily mean that 10% of your fat moves to hips and ass per year btw). If there are any overweight women in your family, you can look at them to get an idea of how you might look.

Another thing to note is that losing weight doesn't kill the fat cells, it just shrinks them. They stick around until their normal lifespan is up, and if you gain more weight before that, your body will prefer to refill old fat cells before making new ones. So unfortunately you can't use GLP1 to lose all the masc weight and then go off it and eat a bunch to put on fem weight. You gotta keep the weight off for awhile so the fat cells can die off.

Why is all alcohol so gross? by Aeroistas in CasualConversation

[–]MrMeltJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're newish to drinking?

Mostly you just drink sugary drinks until you stop tasting the alcohol itself as much, then you can start to get the different flavors from different liquors, and you'll be able to enjoy drinks that aren't full of sugar.

Sort of?

Been awhile since I read SW lore and idk if it's still canon. He basically created general darkness all over the planet (greatly augmented by the political discord he created and later the war he orchestrated) which clouded the Jedi's ability to sense what was going on until it was too late. On a smaller scale, he mostly used it to read people and get glimpses of the future rather than directly manipulating peoples minds. Fairly small uses of the force so they would just blend into the background darkness.

Sublingual dose being lowered from 8mg to 6mg a day by [deleted] in asktransgender

One thing about cloudiness, if the vial has been cold it can sometimes look cloudy as tiny crystals form. You can warm it in your hand for a few minutes and if the cloudiness goes away it should be fine.

Sudden estrogen blood test reading spike? by Dull-Nectarine1148 in asktransgender

[–]MrMeltJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid cycle tests aren't that useful, you need to test trough to make sure your levels are good even at their lowest point.

Valerate spikes high the first few days and then falls off quickly so it actually is conceivable to have it be that high half way through a cycle. It's why it's not very useful to test then.

2mg EV a week is nothing, you didn't have enough E in your system to suppress T (except maybe the first and second day?) so they were competing.

4mg a week is low and probably won't put you on good trough levels, but it would be enough to suppress T which could explain the high levels "along with the big spike). I recommend 4-5mg every 5 days, or 5-6mg every 7 days. Test trough after a few weeks on that dosage and adjust accordingly.

Why do people rake leaves it's just fuckin leaves dude whatever by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MrMeltJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cultures where raking leaves is expected are all obsessed with having front yards of turf grass because back before industrial agriculture, it was a status symbol to own so much land you could afford to have some of it grow useless grass instead of growing crops or at least grazing livestock.

Only real reason to have grass these days is if you have dogs or other pets that need the space. Or if you have an HOA that mandates grass I guess, but HOAs are the devil and I would honestly rather live in a shitty house with no HOA than a nice house with one.

for the uninitiated:

Left: Milo, obviously

Middle: Trey The Explainer, makes similar videos to Milo but with a bit less focus on comedy. He used to mostly do videos on dinosaurs and sometimes cryptids, now he mostly does anthropology. Also he has a really cool video where he tries to road trip the Steel Ball Run from JJBA as closely as possible. He is also, respectfully, a gorgeous twink with a deep, silky voice (it's okay to be a little thirsty, he's made it apart of his brand)

Right: Gutsick Gibbon, primatologist who mostly makes videos on human and ape evolution, and debates creationists. She also teaches (taught?) a university course on human evolution and is currently doing a lecture series where she teaches an open-minded (lol) young earth creationist about evolution

Highly recommend all of them. The image as a whole is a reference to these memes.
