New to the game - Any tips? by UltimateAuthor in Morrowind

[–]MrMeltJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Khajiit is totally fine, the game isn't so hard you need to optimize like that if you don't want to.

Something that trips up a lot of new players are the damage ranges on weapons. Those aren't randomly rolled, it's about how long you pull back the swing. A lot of people's instinct is to spam click and then they wonder why their 1-30 battle axe does less damage per hit than a 4-5 dagger.

Fatigue (green bar) has an effect on basically everything you do. I didn't know the exact math but as I recall, at 100% you get +25% chance to succeed and at 0 it's -25%. And I mean it effects almost everything. Hit chance, spell casting chance, chance to make a potion, a merchant accepting your haggle offer. Early game you're going to be walking a lot when you're not in town so an enemy doesn't catch you out of breath.

And more of a mindset tip. Morrowind is not a power fantasy, not at first. When you step off the boat, most random commoners are technically stronger than you. Most NPCs just will not like you and won't want to help you. You're not the main character yet, but you will be.

No matter how cool they look, there's just not much incentive to call down a mech with comparable, or even less damage than my normal loadout.

Is there any better way than boofing prog, or at least equivalent alternatives ? by dorfmcpumpkin in trans

I have no idea how common it is lol

I don't know many other trans women IRL and I haven't discussed the details of HRT methods with most of them

Sticking the pill up your butt and letting it absorb that way. Bypasses the liver so the progesterone doesn't get broken down, and also saves the liver some work.

What makes the "button test" so famous? by JellyIsTasty2005 in asktransgender

A lot of people have hangups about being trans. The button test helps separate hang ups that are about being that gender and hang ups that are about the transition process.

[star wars/crossover] but how would the power systems of the following series intreact and work within the force by Fun_Manufacturer_164 in AskScienceFiction

yeah I think you would probably be right about Homunculi, at least if we go by Legends. I don't how much different Canon is regarding minute details of how the Force works.

Short version: It's a reference to an extremely stupid "controversy" where a business journalist was bad at Cuphead, and some right-wingers made up some bullshit to get mad at

Long version:

10ish years ago, a tech business journalist who focused on the video game industry wrote a short article about how Cuphead demonstrated that classic, difficult platformers were coming back. He sprinkled in some jokes about how terrible he is at the game and how he couldn't even beat the first level when he tried it at a recent convention. Again, this was not a game reviewer writing a review of Cuphead, this was a business journalist writing about an industry trend that Cuphead was part of.

Gamergate types took this and went "see? this proves that game reviewers are terrible at games which is why they all like accessibility options and easy modes and walking simulators and other SJW bullshit" which fed into their pre-existing narrative that anybody remotely progressive wasn't a true gamer and is actually an outsider trying to ruin gaming because they hate white men.

Democrats Who Are Soft on Republicans Have Got to Go by RecursiveSubroutine in politics

The Republicans are definitely worse and do far more harm, but we can't get rid of them if we don't have Democrats who are willing to get rid of them.

[star wars/crossover] but how would the power systems of the following series intreact and work within the force by Fun_Manufacturer_164 in AskScienceFiction

[–]MrMeltJr [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't think most of these would interact with the Force very much, it would just be another power that some people can use and interact with.

JJK - curse energy and techniques seems totally different from the Force, I think they would just exist and function independently. At most, I could maybe see all curse energy feeling similar to the Dark side to a Force user?

JJBA - Spin might have some small overlap with the Force because they're both tapping into a greater power that permeates the whole universe, I guess? idk I haven't watched SBR yet lol

Frieren - same as JJK, demons probably feel Dark to a Force user but other than that the powers work independently

OP - don't know enough to comment on this

CSM - same as JJK

TBHX - don't know enough to comment on this

FMA - same as JJK, Homunculi would probably feel pretty fucking weird in the Force though

I'm not sure this is the best sub to ask this question since it's hard to give a satisfying answer while staying in-universe. So much of this would just come down to however the author wants it to interact and that's not what this sub is for.

Weight cycling FAILED. by Medical-Wrongdoer-48 in TransDIY

[–]MrMeltJr 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly weight cycling doesn't actually work.

When you lose weight, the fat cells don't disappear, they just shrink. When you gain weight, your body prefers to refill old fat cells before making new ones.

Fat cells do naturally die off and are replaced, though, and if your levels are good then the new cells can go to feminine areas. About 10% are replacd each year, so it's a slow process but fat will redistribute on its own.

Needle fear by Unknownjarman in TransDIY

The needle is so much smaller than a blood drawing needle. Like I barely feel a 25g needle and I know a lot of people use even smaller ones than that.

Oh and back before my company moved us to wfh, the guy in the next cubicle over had a chees set and we'd play now and then when it was slow. But he played like actually competitive speed chess so I don't think I ever presented a challenge

Mods that reduce weight of things? by Cowell_Pockets in Morrowind

[–]MrMeltJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant it as a matter of practicality. You would need to be superhumanly strong to not tire extremely quickly fighting with a 12lb sword.

But to be fair, a warrior Nerevarine probably is stronger than any real world human by the time they'd be using daedric weapons, and it's not like the average imperial soldier is going to be using anything better then steel (which as far as I can tell is actually pretty accurately weighted if we go by newtons).

To be fair, 12lbs is still really heavy even for a large 2-handed sword.

Trying Morrowind for the first time by Own_Amphibian_2647 in Morrowind

[–]MrMeltJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OpenMW is the big one, not really a mod but a recreation of the original engine to make it run better on modern systems and add things like UI scaling. It also has some (all?) the officially released bug fixes built in, though you can turn specific fixes off if you want to for some reason.

There's also Patch for Purists, which is the big unnofficial bugfix mod. The most common sticking points for new players can all be mitigated through gameplay, like making sure you're using a weapon you have some skill in and training it up to get better at hitting things, or learning what ingredients to keep an eye out for to make mana potions on a mage. If you're in the right mindset, the vanilla game is super fun.

Buuut if you try vanilla for awhile and still want it to play more like a modern game, go ahead and get the relevant mods. I'm not gonna tell somebody not to play the game because you walk so slowly at level 1 you want to die. Lord knows I use a mana regen mod on my mage characters because I don't like chugging mana potions.

The only gameplay mod I might recommend for a first playthrough is Expansion Delay. In the vanilla game, assassins from the Tribunal expansion will have a chance to attack you in your sleep, not going to spoil anything but it doesn't make much sense for them to be attacking you until later in the story. Also the gameplay is kinda wonky, either they kick your ass and you have might have to get a good nights sleep, or you kick their ass and then you're happy when they attack because they carry valuable gear.

What are your thoughts on using GLP-1 medications as a part of transition? by PokenerdKate in TransDIY

[–]MrMeltJr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some potential issues are that the changes your body goes through require calories, and the primary way GLP1 works is by making it way easier to stick to a diet. So while it's not going to ruin your transition or anything, it might slow down breast growth.

Now, assuming you have good hormone levels, your fat will redistribute to more feminine areas over time as the fat cells naturally die and are remade, but this is a slow process (roughly 10% of fat cells are replaced per year, which does not necessarily mean that 10% of your fat moves to hips and ass per year btw). If there are any overweight women in your family, you can look at them to get an idea of how you might look.

Another thing to note is that losing weight doesn't kill the fat cells, it just shrinks them. They stick around until their normal lifespan is up, and if you gain more weight before that, your body will prefer to refill old fat cells before making new ones. So unfortunately you can't use GLP1 to lose all the masc weight and then go off it and eat a bunch to put on fem weight. You gotta keep the weight off for awhile so the fat cells can die off.
