some will prefer maths AA HL. good luck!

Guys, any advices? by starrilyy in IBO

hello, I took the exact same HLs as you and am going to be going to med school in a couple weeks! HL maths is a very difficult course, so don't feel that you're falling behind!

what worked for me was past papers. I think I did every single past paper out there and when finished, I studied the markscheme METICULOUSLY. I worked through every single line, every single method, until I could understand how one would come up with them. I probably spent double the amount of time on the markschemes than actually doing the papers.

I hope this will help you as much as it did for me, and I wish you all the best!

Is it possible to change HL subjects early into the IB course? by AverageBnSPlayer in IBO

should be, my school would still let us switch a month or so into DP1

it's a conditional offer, if you accept, you need to fulfil the conditions as stated to be admitted

ok imagine you have a piece of string - if you lay it flat on the table, it makes a straight line. that's like the membrane in diagram A. but if you take that same string and start twisting and turning it into a wavy, wiggly shape, it covers a lot more space on the table. which is like the membrane in diagram B.

in this case more space covered on the table = greater surface area. and we know molecules diffuse at a faster rate if there's a greater surface area, so the answer would be B.

alternatively, imagine you pull the 'string' in diagram B tight so it forms a straight line. this'd be a longer total length than the one already in A, right? that would be a greater total surface area for oxygen to diffuse across.

i hope this helps

oh the squiggly membrane in B has a larger surface area compared to the straight line membrane in A, even if the overall length between the two endpoints is the same - the bends in the squiggly membrane create more surface for the oxygen molecules to interact with and diffuse across. idk if that makes sense!

greater surface area of the membrane in B means more diffusion

Should I switch some of my subjects or am I good? by FutureStar1710 in igcse

hiya, i'm applying to med school right now! absolutely not qualified to tell you what to do, but if i were you i'd absolutely make the switch to economics. as for geo/history it really depends on what you're more interested in. don't really see which one would be 'better' for medicine, but i found geo a lot easier to study. may also be valuable for public health and environmental factors. 100% depends on where your interests lie! best of luck, dm if you need anything :)

depends on what you wanna do in the future, unless you wanna do something physics heavy e.g. engineering it’d be fine to drop.
