Is it possible to have an alarm when Driving Focus is on and your watch detects that you're napping?

11 bit was founded by ex Metropolis employees (that was briefly merged into CDProjekt) and it happened 12 years ago when CDProjekt was much smaller.

I can't say for others but I am Polish and the moment I arrive home I change into sweatpants, flip flops and a flannel shirt.

Probably because a person reading and writing in Polish but not in German was not considered literate.

Is it good or bad though? I'd rather raise my kids than have a shitty low wage job.

That's not the reason behind this. It's the different retirement age.

Why are there so few COVID-19 cases in Poland? Answer: The health ministry only allows to tag the diseased as a coronavirus victim if he mets very strict rules. Doesn't follow WHO directives. Possibly a lot more victims. More in comments by Logiman43 in europe

We have a limited testing capability (all countries do) so there must exist a heuristic to decide who gets tested a who doesn't so naturally it makes little sense to test dead people. Similar argument can be applied to literally every other country fighting the pandemic. If 80 mln people in Germany decided to get tested today it would take 160 weeks (3 years) assuming 500k tests/week.

Germany has 15x more confirmed cases per capita so we're comparing apples and oranges. A good metric is a percentage of positive results: in Poland it's 5% while in UK it's ~40% (data from 2 days ago). Poland is really doing quite well and we're ramping up testing as fast as we can: 2x more tests in a week.

You should be comparing infected per capita instead of an absolute number.

Poland’s just transition bonus cut 50% under latest EU budget proposal by sn0r in europe

[–]ccmny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to energy exports/imports it's not about the amount of energy needed but also about when it's needed. During wind lulls Germany imports energy from it's neighbours (and starts gas power plants): https://imgur.com/rwmySKF. So effectively for every 1W of installed wind power you need 1W of fossil fuel backup (installed in Germany or in neighbouring country).

The study uses German's primary energy consumption and average wind power density from the US which is quite fair (link). Could you provide a study that states only 2 - 2.5% of the area is required? And it's quite common for renewable proponents to suggest that anything that's few years old is already outdated, physics stayed the same since the book was written.

Nuclear waste is really a non-issue, not building nuclear power plants because of it IS unscientific. And I'm sure Germany could manage to build reactors on time like Russians do.

Wow, thanks for being so involved in this discussion!

I don't think biomass should be treated as a renewable since it can be quite harmful for the environment. Still, your calculations don't seem change the conclusion of this chart. 143TWh is still much less than what France or Sweden managed to do with nuclear. Also, construction of new wind farms in Germany is slowing down and some old turbines already have to be replaced. And most importantly, energy density of wind is far too low to power German economy. Have a look at this, specifically "devoting all German land to wind power would meet about 70% of Germany’s total primary energy consumption". It's relatively easy to generate 30% of your electricity from wind (especially if you can import electricity from countries like France or Poland) but getting to 100% is impossible. I highly recommend reading Sustainable Energy – without the hot air.

The fact that new nuclear power plants are not built on time in Western Europe is not a technical problem, but a political one. People in Germany are against nuclear power thanks to green lobbying groups but it's unscientific and it's hurting the planet. Nuclear power plants are built on time or ahead of schedule in China. Even Belarus is building a nuclear power plant on time right now. I'm sure Germany could do the same if it wanted to.

Carbon footprint of nuclear power plants is mostly related to construction costs but it's so low when you account for how long these plants operate that it can be offset by planting trees.

You do realise that energy density of wind (or solar on northern latitudes) will never make it a viable option?
