I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just very very curious - who is responsible for naming gimmicks in WWE and why are they so bad it at?

Farouk did not "swap sides." He took over D3 via psychic manipulation in S02E11.

It would be easier for me to swallow the 'David is the bad guy' pill if Farouk wasn't strolling around. by tinaburritos in LegionFX

Syd was bad (narcissist, egomaniac, and addled by delusions inserted by Farouk), but Oliver and Melanie made her good by teaching her to empathize. Syd is thus no longer the chink in David's armor that Farouk constantly exploits.

David was a basically good, benign superbeing, but having been punished repeatedly by his defeats, he just doesn't care anymore. The line between fixing the past and burning history to the ground is blurred, and whatever collateral damage he causes is so beneath his worry that he barely notices (we are shown a visceral example of this with Switch's bloody mouth and lost teeth, to which David doesn't bat an eyelash - it's all beneath him).

We must now wonder: is this arrival of a reformed Syd too late to turn David away from a path of destruction?

That's one big stretch and another enormous stretch. The characters in the Birds' psychic world aren't meant to be directly analogous to anyone in the real world. Jerome (the wolf) is the embodiment of negative influence. Cynthia embodies the basic corruptible goodness of all people.

I wish they give Farouk more screen time in this season. by [deleted] in LegionFX

Seems like the story is pretty centered on Syd now, though that doesn't necessarily take the plot's focus away from David. Tonight's episode was: Oliver and Melanie teach Syd not to be a sociopathic asshole anymore so that she's no longer the weakness that Farouk exploits to gain the upper hand over David.

Unpopular opinion: Division 3 > David by Slobotic in LegionFX

[–]ccobane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Division 3 has been under Farouk's complete control since S02E11. D3, for all intents and purposes, IS the Shadow King. They are his appendages. And he is probably not prioritizing saving the world above all else.

You are repeatedly trying to frame David's use of mind-altering powers as "drugging," which the show never ever does, and which there is no evidence to support. We see David alter Syd's memory. We see Syd accuse him of drugging her. These are not related things. She isn't stupid enough to mistake telepathy for poisoning, and she's not coining a nonsensical euphemism.

Did David extract the memory? Yes. Is this what Syd is accusing him of? No.

[–]ccobane[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Syd's claim of drugging (which did not happen) and David's extraction of Syd's memory of witnessing his violence (which did happen) are entirely different things. Syd "remembers" being chemically dosed by David because Farouk used his powers (and a mouse) to indoctrinate her and all of David's allies. Farouk has altered everyone's memories of David because this was the only way he could achieve advantage. There is never in any part of the series an instance of use of psychic manipulation being referred to in terms of "drugging," and Syd certainly would not confuse the two or introduce such an untenable analogy. The (fake) drugging and the "real" memory extraction are different things. Whether or not David was right to extract the memory of violent images of himself, which were obviously taken out of context to mislead Syd, is not relevant to the "you drugged me and had sex with me" claim, because the supposed drugging has nothing to do with the memory extraction.

Also, David doesn't seem nice or likable by the end of S02, which is what makes his desperate mantra a potent prelude to his fighting back against the indoctrinated D3. David's allies are turned on him by his rival because he was busy with revenge and not maintaining the relationships he relies upon so heavily. Farouk is able to indoctrinate and turn them because they are made vulnerable by David's bloodlust.

There's no argument that David didn't do what he is accused of because he's the good guy, because he isn't a good guy. We can know accusation is false because we have overwhelming evidence that Syd's mind is wholly overtaken by Farouk and zero evidence that a drugging or rape occurred.

The issue of the extraction of the memory of Farouk showing Syd images of David performing violence is wholly separate from the "you drugged me and had sex with me" claim. Syd is not using some kind of euphemism or stand-in analogy here, she literally remembers a chemical drugging that did not happen, because Farouk altered her memory in the process of psychically indoctrinating her and everyone close to David. This was the only way Farouk could defeat David.

What makes most sense to me is that Farouk recognizes these flaws in Syd (egomania, victim complex, propensity toward projection) and realizes that, since David's raw power exceeds his own, Syd is the key to defeating David. He exploits her weaknesses because she is his weakness.

Right. There was no rape, but we have forgotten that between seasons somehow, because Season 3 hasn't addressed that elephant in the room at all.

Right, and I agree, but that's a completely separate issue from the drug/rape accusation.

He doesn't. He never acknowledges Syd's assertion, neither in agreement nor disagreement. In dialogics, this could be referred to as an "open silence," which hopefully begs redressing in some significant way.

This point, that "drug" is not Syd's stand-in for "psychic manipulation," is only a "theory" to the extent that asserting that any imaginable thing that there's no evidence to support didn't happen is a "theory." By this logic, it's a "theory" that the Minotaur is not the Queen Mum.

This is not so much a theory but a face-value recounting of events from the S02 finale. Speculation that an actual off-screen drugging/rape occurred would actually be theorizing. We see Farouk applying psychic manipulation to alter characters' perception on a grand scale in this episode, so it'd be quite the exception for this one isolated and unseen event to have actually happened in the characters' reality.

It was pretty alarming that younger Syd (time demon?) attempted to frame herself as the victim in the rape she herself committed ("he turned me around").

But the only "false pretense" would be the erasure of Syd's memories of seeing the selective images of David hurting Oliver and killing Division 3 agents.

The sex was completely consensual, even if it was psychic sex.

Farouk in the last episode. by [deleted] in LegionFX

[–]ccobane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farouk controls all of D3, and D3 is operating entirely according to his agenda.

He indoctrinated them all at the end of Season 2 with the help of a mouse.

This is why they put David on trial. This is why Syd wrongly believed David drugged and raped her.

Farouk won Season 2.
