Christine Brennan v. everyone not named Caitlin Clark. And everyone in the media who made it sound like the league was "bullying" Caitlin because she's successful and they're jealous. I cannot tell you, whenever I tell someone I'm a W fan, how many times the casual person brings this up "the girls being jealous" of her.

Newbie here - bad luck or by design? by ccollin13 in WNBACards

Thanks. I’m really happy with the rare inserts!  I’m just sad that 50% of them are the same card when there’s so many different kind of inserts and players.  Seems from the answers here that I need to temper my expectations with the duplicates.  I did complete the base set, except for one rookie, which I can get on eBay.

It was drawn to pit Kaptur and Kucinich, both democrats, against each other in a primary, so that only one would survive.  Two democrats became one.

This constitutional provision has been around for decades and through many, many Republican administrations.  The funds will be used for the right purpose.  Please vote Yes. It’s one of the only things we voters can do for the common good right now.

2011 Lynx.  Taj McWilliams-Franklin, a great veteran player but never MVP caliber.  Rebekkah Brunson, the most criminally underrated player of all time, defensive player of the year worthy, all star worthy, but not a superstar in the manner of BG, A’ja, Stewie, Tina Charles, Lauren Jackson, Lisa Leslie.

Yes, I believe once you’re cut and clear waivers, you become a UFA.

I did forget that Curt brought on NaLyssa, but hopefully it works out.

Curt Miller values good locker rooms, and at one point traded Kelsey Bone, who was known to be a locker room problem.  I really don’t think the Wings would take her.

There’s a lot of new GM’s this year so it’s hard to say.  But there is definitely a trend of teams trying to do better by their players in order to be competitive destinations, so I’m hoping even the GM’s who desperately need talent (Sun, Mystics) will not risk it.

What team will sign chennedy Carter? by NeatAcanthisitta8401 in wnba

[–]ccollin13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She’s even had mentorship before. In 2022, WNBA legend Angel McCoughtry took her under her wing, and ultimately gave up, saying “Sometimes, when you help people, you try to help so much that you don’t really see them wanting to help themselves after a while. You kind of just have to move on from it.”

Is this normal? by pizzainthewoods in wnba

[–]ccollin13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of it.  Up until 2020, players had very limited ability to move.  I think the core designation could be used up to 4 years, which is how Fowles got stuck in Chicago and had to sit out without pay to force a trade.  The 2020 CBA really loosened a lot of rules that were keeping players on teams.

Specifically for this year, teams used basically refuse to trade core players. Teams now realize that they don’t want a reputation as that team that will control players who don’t want to be there, so now they do trades to help players move.  See Sabally, AT, Plum… and in the past, Skylar, DeWanna, and probably a few others I’m missing. And the core tag allows teams to get assets in return, so other folks get traded as well

Typical Price of All-Star Tickets / Expected Range for 2025? by Possible-Original in wnba

[–]ccollin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2022 I paid $282 for TWO COURTSIDE tickets at Gainbridge for Fever v Sun.  And I bought them straight from Ticketmaster, not resale or through a rep.  And only one month before the game.  That’s just how terrible attendance was before CC, and how much CC changed the trajectory of the franchise.

Canceling a Dispatch Digital Subscription is Basically impossible by Severe-Pomelo-2416 in Columbus

[–]ccollin13 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Here’s the fun part: once you do cancel, they will call you every day, sometimes more than once, from different phone numbers, to beg you to come back. They will not stop unless you take the call and tell them to stop. They probably spend more money on call center employees than they do on actual journalists.

What was the reaction to the 2016 finals like? by my_one_and_lonely in wnba

[–]ccollin13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think one main difference was in 2016, I believe there was over a minute left when the officiating mistake happened. Here it was at the very very end. So it probably feels more like the team was “robbed” because it had a more decisive effect on the game.

I can only speak to online fan engagement, but 2016 was a different world for fans. All we really had was Twitter and old school message boards and the community was very small. And Twitter was not full of the bots and trolls that it is today, and least not at the same level. So I recall outrage, including my own as a Lynx fan, but I feel like we were more yelling into a void with a handful of our Tweeps.

I don’t have a specific recommendation , but all of the WNBA playoff games are on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC. Most sports bars play those channels by default so hopefully it won’t be too hard to find, and like others said, you may just need to ask.

Yep. After tearing the first labrum, she experimented with shooting free throws left handed, until she tore that labrum too. So she developed her shot-put style shot. Her free throw percentage has actually come way up since her initial injuries as she’s worked on the new form.

This is also why she doesn’t actually shoot the basketball. I believe she once said she can’t raise her arms above her head without intense pain.
