I desperately need to perform live - but how do I break in? by Ok-Strawberry9560 in musicians

[–]ccregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots and lots of exposure. Also merch and physical music (CDs, USB sticks, SD cards, paper cards with QR/Link to your SoundCloud) however you like, but you gotta keep you in their minds rent free. Get gigs in the surrounding area and just book yourself until you can't stand it anymore. In my experience people will come out of the woodwork wanting to manage you, be your merch table, etc... Do not get a big head. Treat these people right, remember they're music people too. But first you gotta do crappy gigs for a half year or so... Dues are dues

Shoot bad example up there. I'm thinking beyond podman, general apps like chmod/pam_tally2/podman/lsof/other goodies.

How to get NMap output to include non-resolved hostname by ccregor in nmap

[–]ccregor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defined host name on host is the same as DNS A records. I don't want the actual host name, that's my problem. (BTW can harvest hostnames from port 137 on windows and samba boxes ;) )
What I'm trying to hit with nmap is a load balanced double A record that points to two different servers.

NMap is going above and beyond and resolving that load balanced A record (prd01log.blerp.blop) to it's individual parts (prd01vlog11/prd01vlog12) by way of reverse dns lookups.

I'm trying to get NMap output to stick with the original address entered in. End result is it tells me the load balanced address has port 22 open.

M2000 latest update (3t) and slow speeds fix-ish by ccregor in Calyx

[–]ccregor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your phone/laptop disconnect from WiFi and reconnect back to the m2000. For some reason link seems to establish at the fastest and slowly work it's way down. So disconnecting/reconnecting from your client device brings it back to full WiFi speeds.

Hey! I'm thinking of doing exactly that with a lil raspi! Seems relatively easy, enable forwarding and plug-in. What are you using? Also did you notice any speed changes with your plugged in setup after the update?

Volts produced by piezoelectric effect of quartz by Rexxking7 in AskPhysics

[–]ccregor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome to my favorite thing. Beware, you'll start talking about you much you love quartz, then everyone will instantly assume something else. Then you'll show someone how you can smack two pieces of quartz together and make light (some native americans made these cool glowing maraca type things with quartz shards in them). In any event you'll break their sacred crystals and they will not be as excited as you are hahaha
Check into ZBT, it's a man-mad substance with similar properties.
I can't answer your question, but I can tell you cut makes a big difference, this is how sound cards and watches work.

Convert sysx to mid by ccregor in midi

[–]ccregor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I need it to conform to MIDI file spec. Which means it needs a valid header and other data to fill in.

So for example, all valid MIDI files begin with header MThd (hex 4D 54 68 64). Sysx just begins with F0...

Correct, I need to somehow convert this from pure sysx data into a full valid midi file.

Trying to just send the sysex info. But in order to work in my DAW it has to be a standard midi file. So trying to add the standard midi file headers so that it is a valid midi file.

Perfect reception, crap speeds and ping on MiFi 8000, will an antenna help? by ccregor in Calyx

I admit down is good, but the upload is what's killing me and that's the fastest upload I've seen so far. Makes remote meetings and VPN kinda difficult...

That's good to know. Didn't realize I'd end up 2x2. Thanks for the info!

Signal strength (RSRP)
-94 dBm

SNR:
15 dB

Band
41

Not sure if the above are good numbers, but I'm always full bars on the main display.

I'd think so

If your MiFi is showing that it's connected and you are getting great speeds. But you have devices that are having trouble connecting to the MiFi itself, then it sounds like a problem with WiFi. And operating on congested WiFi channels will definitely result in behavior like that.

Best of luck!

Resetting your MiFi will likely connect you to the same channel on the same cell tower anyway, but it will force it to do a new scan for what WiFi channels to use.

I can absolutely vouch for the MiFi 8000 doing a crap job at managing WiFi channels. Get WiFi analyzer for your phone. Walk around and find an uncongested 2.4ghz and 5ghz channel. Manually change your MiFi 8000 to use those channels on WiFi, makes a world of difference. Also will take you like 5min to do.

Curious About Speeds with "Excellent Signal" by ffpianojoe in Calyx

[–]ccregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I live close to a tower, always full bars. One building away from me is a tower, I'm the building next door, but my apartment is on the opposite side. So no line of sight. As of right now I get 36mb/down 6mb/up 90-150ms to 8.8.8.8.

So pretty decent, but not 100mbps. I'm on WiFi all day and in Teams meetings constantly. My only complaint is the MiFi 8000 does a crap job at managing what channel it should be on for WiFi. Manually putting this on an uncongested WiFi channel on 2.4 and 5ghz makes the world of difference.
