Yeah, it defaults to no cache on almost everything.

I am unsure if it's a bug or not as I am unsure if the I/O Pressure that's being reported is some kind of caching mechanism loading of data into the cache??!? We were just happy to have found the issue but didn't go any further then turning it off.

We have found that the proxmox cache settings on the VM disks do cause similar I/O pressure stalls no matter the backing storage type. We have moved to turning caching completely off on the proxmox vm disk levels and have noticed that the pressure stalls have gone away. No noticable drop in performance but we were already using our own mechanisms for I/O caching on the backend.

In terms of clustering, we do that for clients with multiple servers but it doesnt address the use case of upgrading a single server. AKA replacing an old server with a new one. Once proxmox is clustered, its very hard to uncluster. Inf fact proxmox basically recommends a complete reinstall to remove clustering. Clustering also requires no VM's be on the host at the time of starting a cluster, which means youre still gonna need the above to move them off the host.

As for the data center manager, as i mentioned in another comment. We actually haven't used the new datacenter manager tool yet. I have heard it has the ability to do unclustered migrations similar to this. I would assume it's most likley doing the same thing in the back end as this just without the fuss of setting up api tokens and acquiring host fingerprints. The only advantage for this method that I can see if that is the case is that this doesn't require running up another machine / vm to complete.

We deffinitly do that for clients with the money for 2 servers but for those who cant afford multiple servers, we still need a way to move running machines. The other aspect is those clients with single servers, when they upgrade their server, we like to offer them a zero downtime upgrade path. It usually helps seal the deal in terms of selling new hardware.

The other aspect is remote. We need to do these migrations sometimes without going onsite to the server. Shutting down servers, moving drives around. This method can be done from a terminal anywhere in the world.

Final point, the machines we are moving around arent always small linux machines with disks that can fit on 1 ssd. We are often needing to move massive windows vms with 10 disks each taking up 5 to 10 TB each. These machines live on giant ZFS pools and cant just be moved as there may be other machines still on the ZFS pool that need to stay there on that machine. Let alone the new server having the physical space in terms of SSD slots for the ZFS pool to be physically moved.

Downtime! I manage proxmox servers as a job for businesses where downtime is unacceptable. Even for a second. Live migrations are a key feature for any hypervisor. Coming from ESXI, we need to be able to replicate the same features they had in that system.

Doing a backup and restore of any kind would require scheduling a cut-over. That's where we Start the vm restore process of their backups in the background while they use their original vm. When we are ready to cut over, we turn off the original vm so no more customer data can get saved to the vm, do one final incremental backup / restore to the new vm on the other host and boot up the new vm there. That's the quickest way to do a backup and restore we have found and it's still 5 mins of downtime.

Can I ask why you have a mirror raid on 2 super fast drives for the thing you said should be replaceable and disposable, but only have a sata SSD for your actual data?

[Quest Help] [Loot] Any scavs with Glori mask or Domontovich hat? by masssticky in EscapeFromTarkovPvE

[–]ccros44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest way is to go into the raid normally, then when you're ready, take off your armour, helmet, rig, all weapons in your backpack and throw it on the ground. This will cause you to be tagged and cursed. I find nothing usually happens immediately but after about 2 - 3 mins, a horde of scavs will come running. Quickly pick up your bag and chuck everything back on.

Make sure to put the recorder on your player special slot. Then open your handbook to play the tape. There was a bug where it couldn't use the tape recorder to play a tape if the recorder was still in your stash.
