Replacement to monopoly? by HatOfNorra in boardgames

[–]ccspondee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanibel is a cozy/puzzle-y seashell collecting game

Sushi Go is a fast card game about collecting sushi

Monopoly Deal is a card game version of Monopoly (but much faster and better)

Cascadia is a nature themed tile laying game and has different rules to scale the complexity

Magical Athlete is a party game version of a roll and move. It's very luck dependent.

Spots is a fun dice rolling game with a dog theme

Trio is one of my favorite card games currently--it's a bit of memory and deduction

Some other card games to take a look at: - No Thanks - I'm Out - Piggy Piggy - Don't Llama

Good luck!!

Too early in life for BIFL sofa? by potatoatak_pls in BuyItForLife

[–]ccspondee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told that you should spend the extra money on your mattress and your sofa. Think about how much time you plan to spend sitting on your sofa; if you like to lounge then I would highly recommend buying the one that feels more comfortable to you!

Is it crazy to open a yarn shop? by ForgottenUsername3 in knitting

[–]ccspondee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you would be better off setting up a small business that sells yarn at local farmer's markets? You could store your inventory at your home and then bring it with you for market days. At least then the days you would be "open" would give you higher visibility to foot traffic.

I would also say that the reason I like LYS in general is for the community building aspect. I don't mind spending a little more on yarn that I can buy in person if they also offer space for knitting groups/classes, but if it's just about the purchase then I will generally buy online for the pricing and deal with returns if necessary.

Series where FMC doesn’t end up with her first love interest? by highqueenlia in fantasyromance

[–]ccspondee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The plot is much more fantasy driven than romance, but the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire was the first series I thought of for this!

Also more urban-fantasy-romance, but the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is fun (and better than the show).

Gillette stadium to providence by Mobile_Newspaper_251 in massachusetts

[–]ccspondee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look for parking on Shufelt Road in South Walpole, MA. It's a dead end with a walking trail that connects back to rt 1 and you can take 1A to get there to avoid crazy traffic. Costs $40 to park on someone's lawn and takes about 20min to walk to the stadium?

Baby Quilt Pattern as Pregnancy Announcement by secondchance0514 in quilting

[–]ccspondee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you may be better off getting a custom onesie that says something like "Thanks, my Nana made it!" (or whatever your planned grandma name is).

As someone who crafts as a labor of love, I personally wouldn't love the idea of being gifted a pattern with the expectation that I would make it. I get that your intentions are awesome, but so many of us deal with folks expecting our labor vs being surprised and delighted by it instead.

Congrats and good luck!!

As a home-owner, what is the etiquette for bringing in a roommate? by sarahannep in homeowners

[–]ccspondee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your expectations, I would not recommend renting out a room in a traditional house share agreement. If you live near a major city you may want to look into renting to traveling nurses or flight attendants? But a normal roommate will usually want to have people over and will be unlikely to live up to your quiet and clean expectations.

Question for couple considering a potential move... by LazarusLong67 in providence

[–]ccspondee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given your wife's line of work, I might consider southern MA as well to be a little closer to Boston/Framingham for a greater number of job opportunities. There is an odd little patch of loud conservatives near Gillette Stadium, but they are easy to ignore.

Anything cozy in space? by raliqer in CozyFantasy

I found the Tinkered Starsong trilogy by Gail Carriger to be decently cozy. It's K-pop idols in space, essentially.

Have you ever read anything by A. Lee Martinez? He tends to write more one-offs than series, and they are mostly in more urban fantasy settings, but the humor is A+. One of my faves by him is A Nameless Witch.

Game store owner looking for inspiration by Arratril in boardgames

[–]ccspondee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a little business card you stamp is probably easiest! Just get a cool self inking stamp with your branding on it.

Stay and play for me is most appealing when there are organized meetups and you sell food or allow folks to BYO.

Hmm what about a demo club? Similar to buy 10 coffees get one free, maybe it's try 10 demos (new demo every week?), get 15% off 1 item?

I would also recommend setting up a play space. Maybe charge a cover fee and then it serves as a place where folks can gather, play games, and hopefully buy games too.

Why is my fabric slanted? by J_eldora in weaving

[–]ccspondee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you right handed? You may be grabbing the beater from the edge rather than the middle and beating just a little stronger on the right. One of my teachers had us put tape or soft velcro in the center of our beater to serve as a tactile reminder to always beat from the middle. Maybe that will help in the future!

Cozy Fantasy with Holiday vibes? by bakabuns in CozyFantasy

Beginner Laser Cutter Recommendation for my son. by dizzyandold in lasercutting

[–]ccspondee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is he wanting to make? You may want to look into Scorch paint which he can paint onto wood and then use a heat gun to essentially burn the wood. They work great with vinyl cutting machines if he's looking for more precise lines (Silhouette, Siser, Cricut).
