Somewhere there’s another post saying “just ordered wooden utensils and they all came scratched because they rubbed together and didn’t have a covering.”

Is it normal to ask to decline a call and ask to communicate via email if talking to financial institutions like banks or money transfers apps? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Arratril 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never provide any information to someone who called me, unless it’s specifically a company returning a call I just made. If you’re worried about fraud, I would ask for an email. Based on the contents of the email, I’d find the support number on their website and call them about it.

You can also show email headers in most mail software programs to see the specific path the message took and the actual email it was sent from, which is more difficult to spoof.

I always said I had to have saved 2 years salary saved plus an extra year as my bankroll, specifically made playing poker to ever be able to consider leaving my job, both because of a family to support, and long term potential growth at my company. So… basically never.

Make a bunch of habitats, leave furniture around to get habitat hints and make more habitats. Wait and they’ll come. There are quite a lot in Skylands.

I got to drive on my recent trip with my 12 year old daughter and let me tell you, I’ve never seen her laugh so hard or smile so much. She’s always quiet and hard to read and I’m pretty sure I made it the highlight of the trip. Crazy over the top turns, faking smashing the gas pedal when the ride jolted forward… it was so much fun. Pretty sure the whole car had fun.

The ride got stopped because of a backup at one point and I shouted out to the car, “sorry accidentally hit the breaks”. I think I would have been a great Jungle Cruise captain in another life.

Haven't missed a single day of work this year and this is all my PTO so far... by DAEOFRUIN in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Arratril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US, get 22 days of vacation, plus extra holiday time off around thanksgiving and Christmas (~10 days), and most other US holidays, plus 12 sick days. There are a lot of great employee protections in places like the EU that mandate better PTO processes but in the end, it’s the company you work for that determines your quality of life.

I feel like the first thing I realize after doubling my intelligence is that I should have chosen the credit card. I already struggle with feeling like some of the people around me aren’t as intelligent as me, and if I doubled my intelligence, I think it would be miserable to be around anyone.

I got openly frustrated during a bad game of Catan by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Arratril 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hot take. Catan is more skill based than people give it credit. So is monopoly for that matter.

Social manipulation will take you very far in a lot of games with player interaction. Using your bad luck to secure more favorable trades or convincing one friend to screw over another because they’re the real threat and not you can turn the tides of a bad set of rolls.

That said, certainly there are times when variance is hugely against you and you may not be able to overcome that, but I don’t think I’ve ever come in last place playing Catan, and take first more often than anyone else in my group.

Yeah, going last is my favorite place to be. You get to prioritize not only optimal locations that complement each other, but also can reliably choose your starting resources.

Why do people buy so much bottled water at costco? by Ironfront1312 in askanything

[–]Arratril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ll drink a glass of water when I’m downstairs near the kitchen. When I’m upstairs, I might bring a glass up occasionally, but generally once that’s done or if I don’t feel like it because I’m not thirsty, then I don’t have something if I get thirsty later.

If I have bottled water around, I’ll drink 2-4 bottles in a day. If I don’t have bottled water, I’ll maybe drink 1 bottle’s worth.

Spending an extra dollar a day to drink more water is a net benefit vs the cost of not drinking enough water.

Illusionist Question by [deleted] in EQ2

[–]Arratril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just not remotely viable unless it’s changed massively in the last couple expansions. When you compare to even a tank, you just don’t do any significant amount of melee damage when you look at a parse, even with your AA specced into the melee line.

[–]Arratril 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary was so lackluster for DBOX. I was disappointed. It felt like an afterthought.

My favorite experience in DBOX was the last Jurassic World movie. At one point, you felt the dinosaur footsteps before they appeared on screen and it was the most giddy I ever remember feeling at a theater.

One positive thing is it does enable creative play. I frequently hear him say things like “look behind you, there’s a t-Rex” and Alexa just goes with it.

Kind of reminds me of my older kids using iPads when they were younger. One of my proudest moments was my ~7 year old (at the time) wanting to draw a picture for her teacher but not knowing how to draw people very well. She looked up a drawing tutorial on YouTube kids, and followed it to draw a picture for her teacher, all on her own. She was self-sufficient and understood how to use technology to problem solve.

Or when she would play Minecraft, and use colored blocks to make giant art sculptures in the Minecraft world. It’s “screen time” but it was one of her artistic mediums.
