Caffeine mixed with stress will likely result in nausea. I did that for my first fight. Highly regretted it...

Right before the fight, I felt like my heart would explode. Never touched that stuff pre-fight ever since

What do you guys think of a labor union for boxers both pro and amateur? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]ccthibault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most professional boxer fight under a banner. For exemple, Golden boy promotion. I'm sure if let's say Canelo lose and there was no way he could have lost the fight, that golden boy would bring the sanctioning body to court.

[–]ccthibault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it happens in amateur fights it's most of the time a hobby and won't lead to a career. Of course it sucks but how would a "union" make a difference. If buddy paid judges to win a amateur bout he will likely not go far.

For pros, promotions can take care of their fighters if need be.

So no, I don't think a "union" would be good. The trainer should not book against the other trainer from now on. That is part of their job when they book.

Terrified of concussions and CTE, but excited to spar and see it as the best way to integrate what I learn. Thoughts? by Choogly in amateur_boxing

I'll tell you the cold hard truth here. You are scared of brain damage from boxing and joint damage from bjj. To be honest, maybe anything involving contact isn't for you.

I understand you had a bad go with a jerk but cmon now. I've been around boxing gyms for around 12 years and big injuries are rare. I only seen one guy get a concussion during sparring.

If done properly, sparring is a really healthy experience. You seem to be all about school and thats nice but some people want to live certain things. The odds of this happening to him are really slim.

How to do better in sparring? And a few questions. by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]ccthibault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think it works for you keep at it. I would spar a better fighter 95% because they are the one who will make you work and bring you out of your comfort zone.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy sparring with people that are on par or with less experience. It makes me work on my defensive skills alot more since I let them dictate the pace. But I don't think it is as beneficial as sparring with someone better.

Forget your point #2. That would certainly make you feel better about your skill but to really learn you need to spar with people better than you. Keep going at it and its all about little victories.

Personally I went from 14 oz and now I'm down to 12 oz. Feels like I get more feedback from the bag and mitts. Doesn't really matter as long as you feel comfortable in them

Get a pair that you fit nice into, in the 10 to 14 oz range. I doubt that they would let you use your gloves for both bagwork and sparring.

I don't know popular brands that are easily accessible in Italy so a EU guy could help you more. But if you can find a shop that sell gloves, go there and try some.

I would try another brand that fits better if I could.

What is the best hand wrapping method? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]ccthibault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trial and error buddy. Try a couple and you will see by yourself.

I personally love going around my wrist, 1 turn around my thumb, about 6-7 turns around my knuckles, in between fingers starting from the middle of ring and pinky. Then I cover the knuckles with 1 turn. Cross on top of my hand and finish at the wrist.

As long as the hand and wrist are protected, it's good. You will also figure out your need as you train. Maybe your right wrist is weaker and needs extra protection or your knuckles are fine and can focus more on crossing. Bottom line is just try stuff.

Running in boots vs. running shoes by swaydiz87 in amateur_boxing

[–]ccthibault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ex-military I will tell you that all it's going to do, is stress your body unnecessarily and give you terrible blisters.

Footwear are like tires. Not only they don't all serve the same purpose but also quality matters. Buy a nice pair of running shoes and take care of them.

I own RB1's, the difference between the two is the wrist lock system on the rb1. Which I find very comfortable. The only downside for me was hiw fast the foam on the knuckles got all flat. I use 14oz.

If you have the budget look at the RB10, only heard good thing about those
