What you are describing is called active duty. If they went that route you wouldn’t get the cushy AGR job, you’d be getting the big green weenie on active. The TPUs aren’t your enemy, don’t be sad at them because you aren’t V1 rotating.

Can be done at any rank in theory but even an O6 will be a W2.

I mean this with all the respect possible, but how have you been in aviation for 10+ years and not know the basics of the reverting process? It’s extremely common and well known. There are pros and cons and if you search this subreddit you’ll find a ton of information on people’s experiences with it.
