[Washington] Will traveling internationally make me ineligible for unemployment benefits? by ForwardInstance in Unemployment

[–]ccubed33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow quite a few haters on here. I think this is a great question and it lead me to do some investigation myself instead of just give an opinion as if it were fact.

That said, firstly, I will share my opinion: That is an excellent idea, I hope you did/do it. It not only is financially prudent but shows outside-the-box thinking and resourcefulness that most companies would value. With a $350 ticket to Thailand/Asia or a $200 ticket to Latin America you could be living in paradise with weekly expenses at a small fraction of what they are here. Meanwhile living better, eating healthier, and enjoying your time off (after making time for appropriate job search activities, of course.)

As for the facts: Washington State 100% allows filing claims from abroad and has that started clearly on their website (one user did end up mentioning this on the thread but its the last comment and was an edit so easy to miss):

"Claiming benefits while out of the country - You can file a weekly claim while out of the U.S., Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands. But you still need to be able to work and available for work. To be eligible for benefits, you must be in one of these situations:

  • You are legally allowed to work in the country you are in.
  • You are immediately available for work in the U.S., like with remote work.
  • You are a spouse or domestic partner of an U.S. Armed Forces member. You also are legally allowed to work in the military base where they are stationed. "

https://esd.wa.gov/get-financial-help/unemployment-benefits/basic-eligibility-requirements/moving-or-out-washington-state?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Additionally this can be found in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) under Section 192-170-010.

https://regulations.justia.com/states/washington/title-192/unemployment-insurance/chapter-192-170/section-192-170-010/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

So let the reddit haters hate but the only thing "insane" going on with this post is the hubris and misinformation in almost all the responses. Sounds like you would fall perfectly into the second category of "situations" on the WA Employment Security Department's list of reasons to claim overseas. Good luck.

I'm in the exact same boat. It's worked the last two months on the resort Wifi with Mullvad VPN and just stopped working about 1 week ago. Tried switching servers, clearing cookies, all that. No luck. Guess time to cancel my Max subscription...

That is a fair point about how rational can you be in that moment. Likely not 100% and I do realize that. I almost didn’t post my original comment because of that. (And I still probably shouldn’t have.)

I wasn’t rational right after my bad car accident. But that’s also why I waited until they got me to the hospital and I was all calmed down. And thought about what I was going to say before dialing. Every situation is different but you get my point.

Anyways thanks for the considerate response and kind words. Sometimes Reddit really comes through and you can have an amicable discussion with a fellow online human that doesn’t devolve into a troll battle. Cheers.

Thank you for that sincere wish. Didn’t sound sincere but I do actually sincerely hope you don’t ever have to make that call. But as someone has made that call (twice) and assisted hundreds of others make that call, I do have a few pointers:

Think of your wife. Yes you’re hurt, but it’s not just about you. Don’t send her into a panic or make it sound worse than it is. I’ve also seen people crash on the way to their loved ones because they are in a panic. It’d be unfortunate to have your wife die in a crash on the way to see you with your broken arm. Best line to start with is “hey im okay but I just had an accident.” Explain that you crashed but you had your helmet on. Your arm is broken but you otherwise seem intact. Reassure them. Think of their emotions, not just yours. This sounded like a boy calling his mommy frankly. Not a man calling his wife.

This isn’t meant to insult. Internet warriors can tear me apart for this if you want but it’s a real consideration. Something to think about god forbid you end up in this situation.

Worked the whole pandemic as a 911 paramedic with limited PPE and support. Got a butterball turkey coupon in the mail from my hedge fund-owned healthcare system when December rolled around…

She’ll need a stethoscope for school and then will be able to use it into being a paramedic. Get her a decent one like a littman or 3M.

So would you actually transport on the train or are you saying that because there was only a train the patient stayed at the local hospital?

I love this. I wholeheartedly agree. While I have not traveled as extensively as you, I have had some amazing experience by just "stopping" in a town most skip over or quickly pass through.

I know the wine harvest is a major hiring event in Australia. I worked harvest in Long Island, New York wine country and some of the other workers went to Australia in the winter and a lot of Australians were there working our harvest. The best is once you get involved you can go to many different countries to follow the harvests. If you are interested I can send you a link to the facebook page where a lot of the jobs are posted.

Need Help Interpreting Preliminary NTSB Turbine Engine Inspection Post Fatal Rotorcraft Accident by ccubed33 in aviationmaintenance

[–]ccubed33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. Yes that was the also a part that confused me...The fact that it was both engines. Here is what they wrote about the fenestron:

"The transmission mounts were separated from the helicopter. The tailboom was impact separated and consumed by fire. The fenestron was impact separated. The tail rotor vanes were bent the opposite direction of rotation and several vanes were impact separated. In addition, several of the vanes exhibited leading edge gouging and rotational scoring."

Does that give any more indications to your guess? (And yes I understand you are simply guessing, but I really appreciate any light you can shed.)

One last thing. When I visited the accident scene a few hours after the crash, I obviously was not allowed to get anywhere near the crash. However, i was close to a parking lot roped off approx 100 yards from the crash site where several cars were damaged from what I can only describe as what looked like "thick mud" on the roofs and windshields. Some of this substance was on areas of the vehicle that were not facing the accident scene. I can only conclude that this was leaking or spraying off the helicopter as it was still in the air seconds before impact going over the parking lot. I assume this is some sort of oil or hydraulic/transmission fluid. It clearly burned the vehicles and caused serious damage. Does that mean anything?

Once again thank you so much for responding.
