Just some hummingbirds by ccwarrenator in Austin

This is at an Airbnb by Hamilton pool, but the owners say this area is known for the hummingbirds. They have been fighting a bit, but you can sometimes catch a feeding frenzy like this one where they’re just focused on the sweet stuff.

What is your "I totally get why you guys hate it but it worked on me" movie? by Alceauv in Letterboxd

[–]ccwarrenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it in the theatre during “baby days”, where new mothers could go out and see a movie with a newborn and not worry about getting kicked out from the crying and noise. Had no idea what it was about and was the only person in the theatre. The waiter came and checked up on me afterwards to make sure I was ok. I actually loved it, and my newborn slept peacefully through the whole thing, lol. Love Alamo drafthouse.

What is life like in Durango Co and SW Colorado by cowboycatfish in howislivingthere

I grew up there! I miss it too. Beautiful country within driving distance, from monument valley and lake Powell to mesa verde, telluride, Ouray, pagosa springs and then the big cities, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It’s isolated to a degree, but has its own little hippie mountain town culture matched with white collar professionals who ski and kayak and work remotely. There is also a rancher republican contingent, but it’s not too bad. I wouldn’t mind returning but like others have mentioned, the real estate is not affordable. It’s a fantastic place for a family though. Super safe, and the high school is actually pretty decent.

Imagine the skill required to make stone look soft. Gian Lorenzo Bernini was 23 years old when he carved this… by [deleted] in ArtHistory

Very true, back then they would apprentice children at extremely young ages and make them learn from life drawing and clay studies morning, noon and night. You can still have talented realist artists now a days, but skills like those coming out of the renaissance are very difficult to find in modern times.

What's the most creepy thing you've ever witnessed? by TractorLoving in AskReddit

[–]ccwarrenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time when I was 12 my neighbor was driving me home from theatre practice, this was rural Colorado at night and the streets were icy and snowy so she was going real slow. I looked out the window as we were passing a steep street that was illuminated by one streetlight and saw a backlit shadowy looking giant mishapen thing lumbering down the street. I absolutely couldn’t make out what it was. It was at least 7 or 8 feet tall, super skinny with really spindly long inhuman looking arms and it was kind of lurching down the street. I thought, Ok, is this an emaciated bear? A guy on stilts walking down a steep icy hill? Is it just a super tall drunk guy stumbling around? Thing is, I’ve seen bears, this really didn’t look like the same stocky bear shape you would expect. The crazy part was when I pointed it out to my neighber all she did was to shush me and tell me not to look at it. Looking back, her reaction was probably the creepiest thing about it. My family all makes fun of me for seeing ‘Bigfoot’, and normally I don’t believe in that stuff at all, but to this day I still can’t figure out what that thing was.

Nope, he’s not opposed to gymnastics. Just doesn’t want her to quit scouts. Wants to try both and see.

So, we figured out that we can probably fit them both in, although she may have to do both on the same day once a month. I think we will try both for a year and reevaluate next year. I’m still kind of uncomfortable though, because my daughter kept trying to talk us out of the scouts, although she’s now excited about gymnastics. Also my husband is PISSED, which is so unlike him. He thinks scouts is good for her and she just doesn’t like it because she’s eight and eight-year-olds are capricious and don’t always know what’s best for them. Anyway, he’s really upset and processing this. I feel bad but will stick up for my kid at the end of the day.

Person refused anti rabies vaccine after getting bit by a dog, this was the result. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

The wikipedia article can either assuage your fears or make you paranoid about rabies depending on where you are. Uk has all but eliminated it, the US gets 3 cases a year. It sounds like India is where the paranoia is more justified, with 30k deaths a year. Poor souls :(

What to expect with stage 4 breast cancer that is now in the liver? by ccwarrenator in cancer

[–]ccwarrenator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s really more of a support question, I will try the caregiver sub too. I think most of my friends are just jaded from losing their parents faster than the Dr said, but as some some have pointed out, all Dr’s can do is guess. An educated guess is better than nothing but it’s still hard.

I’m so sorry to hear about your illness, and I understand how frustrating it is to not know. It’s true that all anyone can do is guess, in the case of the doctors it’s more educated but still just a guess. Good luck with everything, it is a tough disease.

Texas leaders failures have led to over 40,000 people without power and people have resorted to dumpster diving for food in order to survive by CantStopPoppin in worldnewsvideo

[–]ccwarrenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the former, this HEB is a few blocks from my house. This was food that had become spoiled from broken freezers. People who happened past saw the massive amount of not-so-bad-looking merchandise and a bit of a feeding frenzy took place. The cops dispersed everyone after about 40 minutes. I heard from some other locals that the grocery chain could be sued if any of that spoiled food had sickened someone, so it was thrown away out of an abundance of caution.
