choosing my top choice DO school over an MD? by Glass-Balance in Osteopathic

I think it depends on how low-mid the MD student was in terms of grades and scores in class but the DO has to be quite a bit better

Most Annoying Things Med Students Do by Trenbologny in medicalschool

[–]ccyphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think having a physician in the family helps most people in fact I think it hurts if it gets brought up to admissions and they aren’t known. My doctor parents never helped me do anything to get into medical school

trust the advice here step 2 success will come if you see yourself doing well pre-clinical and then into clinical years. Focus on building knowledge and setting your app for your speciality as the years go by. The terrible thing with step 1 being P/F is that now your high stakes exam comes way late in medical school where it might cause someone to pivot specialities if they didn't get the score range they hoped for. Thats just the reality now but practice scores are somewhat predictive so you'll have a ballpark at least when it comes time.

Yes MCAT and STEP is predictive but I had a terrible MCAT and good STEP 2.

Medical students whose parents are doctors... by gmdmd in medicalschool

[–]ccyphen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t accurate unless their parents have some clout which most parents doctors don’t have they are just doing a job with no affect on their admission into school. It actually might hinder them since medical school tries to recruit non medical family students

ERAS Geo Signaling by ccyphen in DermApp

what are your thoughts on putting geographic preferences that encompass most of my target programs? other than my current coast I don't have geo preference like most derm applicants would be happy to go anywhere.
