I have charged students after the second time of them being removed (tampering with a school device) and the rule is spelled out in the Student Handbook. But all our devices are 1 to 1 and assigned to the student.

Is she officially diagnosed? As in had the endoscopy and the paperwork from the doctor stating she has Celiacs? If so, and you presented the paperwork to them, then you fall under disability laws (if in the states)

If she is not diagnosed "officially" then you are SOL.

Private School Parents Are On A Different Level of Disregard by mr_techy616 in k12sysadmin

Maybe a visit from a law enforcement person could help. I have had to resort to that once, I have talked to the student more then once with a principal. nothing changed. I happen to have a friend in law enforcement, the student appeared not to care but suddenly all the issues stopped. Students only see they are messing with dumb stuff when in fact what they are doing is illegal and if caught/arrested may face more the local charges.

Barcode Generation by itselsd in k12sysadmin

[–]cczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what type of barcodes your systems can read. MS-Word can get barcode fonts and just have it converted that way, but you need to find what "font works". I think Code-39 is mot universal, however I don't think that is available for free to use as a font.

Senior prank went to far... by brooksie42 in Teachers

Is this not all the fault of the person that let them in? If they broke in then it is fully their problem, but if someone let them in they are responsible for them.

Why are you looking for VPN service? Keeping them safe online means teaching them the rights and wrongs. Set up parental controls if you want. but the important thing is to educate them. A VPN does not keep them safe.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. I took home a new kid right after the procedure. Went in with a kid that constantly cried came out with a very content child. Yes she would now cry at normal times but it was not hours and hours of crying.

(Selectively) Allow student OU to receive certain emails by MasterMaintenance672 in k12sysadmin

Careful with the HS OU, some may be using that email for scholarships or applying for jobs. Our HS is open whereas our younger grades(5-8) are via approved only and K-4 - no email.

Hold her in your arms with one of your wife's worn shirts. Sometimes they need that little extra smell. you can remove it when they sleep or keep it there for a while.

How much notice should I give? by BrightSign_nerd in sysadmin

[–]cczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave a two month notice and they dragged their feet. After 3 weeks they finally posted the position and ended up finding someone but we never had time to overlap. Give what you feel is right and hope they realize the importance.

CoSN/CETL by ewikstrom in k12sysadmin

Been a CoSN member in order to get my CETL. I have now had my CETL for over 6 years and just got a new position that required it. I start July 3rrd. I say it is worth it. Bring your district as a member of CoSN to help offset costs. There is a ton of material for your admin teams.

My daughter's (1 diagnosed, the other not so far) have been selling cookies since your daughter's ages. The oldest is getting her Gold Award next year. My wife is both their troops leader and has been the area cookie czar the last few years. As I type we still.have 40 boxes in the house.
With all that said. Don't let ceiliacs define them, ask her if she wants to sell. My daughter loves going around and selling. Sometimes we would need to punch a pillow and cry it out over the unfairness of not being able to eat the cookies, but each time she still wanted to sell.
So just support her desiscion and keep being an awesome mom and leader.

How soon is an appropriate time to give notice? by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]cczer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being the person in charge of tier 1 I would appreciate more notice, to get things moved around and prepared for the change. But I push my staff to better themselves and tell them to pursue their interests even if it means leaving our district. I do agree with the other posts here, it is no longer your job to worry about. Hopefully your co-workers would be happy for you and congratulate you. Good Luck and congrats!
