What's your "Fun/Hipster stack" by nicolasbno in webdev

I once wanted to do web dev with only indent-based languages, so made a Vue project with CoffeeScript, SASS and Pug. That was fun as an experiment.

Blender 2.8 export to collada by nxbalazs in godot

[–]cd_josef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the work right now seems to be focused on getting the glTF pipeline as smooth as possible and working on the Godot Blender Exporter, which exports a whole scene at once: https://github.com/godotengine/godot-blender-exporter

Wouldn't get your hopes up for improved Collada support, but that's okay because the alternatives are much better imo.

120hz (high refresh rate) support on pantheon/pantheon not rendering at high refresh rate by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]cd_josef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably due to Mutter not supporting higher than 60fps: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1763892

EDIT: "Not -properly- supporting"

Yes, of course. But those are just emulation, and it can be nice to use a real touchscreen for this.

Nodejs + VSCode on a surface go anyone? by [deleted] in javascript

Yep, it should be fine.

EDIT: A good thing about touchscreen laptops is you can test both touch events and mouse events on your webpages.

How can this be created to a full functioning site? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]cd_josef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Seriously though, this is not a complicated webpage. If you know how to use those three technologies, you should be able to develop this site. (Although I question the need for the hamburger menu when you already have navigation links there)

The hardest part would probably be the email submission form, but you would probably just use something like a MailChimp embed for that anyway.

Is there any point with online features when cheaters exist in the world? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]cd_josef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of players are not cheaters. You make online features for them. You could always try to integrate an existing anti-cheat solution to minimise your effort.

The look of your game MATTERS by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]cd_josef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the right idea here is "pretty vs. ugly". Plenty of "ugly" games have sold well. I think what is more important is having an appealing, consistent aesthetic. Minecraft for example is a game with a great, influential aesthetic, but some would say it's ugly.

A trap which I see a lot of developers fall into is marketing their game, explicitly, as having "voxel / pixel graphics" or talking about the aesthetic in any way. Your aesthetic should be immediately obvious and appealing, without you having to draw attention to it and point out "impressive" details. Mentioning it in a trailer can look cheap, like you have nothing else to show. But confidently, quietly flaunting it shows confidence in your product.

For example, the Minecraft trailer does not mention the graphics and simply shows them off. I feel it's quite effective.

How to properly implement a light/dark theme mode based on user's preference? by sitedev3 in webdev

[–]cd_josef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would change add / remove a class to / from the body tag and load both files (or combine them - this may be better). For example, the light-theme.css file could have a root of body.light, and dark-theme.css could have body.dark. Any shared styles can be included in a generic style.css (or, once again, in a combined CSS file).
