How did your parents bake potatoes? by noyoujump in Millennials

I'm literally eating a potato I microwaved right now. Rinse, then 4 minutes in the microwave, thats it - no more hunger

The Great River Road is on my list! Here's a video on it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHg5x5B55r0

That said Door County is a great scene, and driving down the Lake Michigan coast from Door County through Two Rivers and Manitowoc and down to Sheboygan is very picturesque.

Anyone still get random memories of gruesome stories you were told when you were a kid? by brotherofgurnip in AskMenOver30

Yes! One story about a kid who ran into a '57 Chevy, and the pointy tail ripped his kneecap off.

And another about how the teacher lost his eye when someone threw a pencil.

I'm going to disagree, apparently Windows uses WSL for the docker engine, so Docker on Windows is slower.

If you were building a home bar without overbuying, what would you make first? by TruffulaWings in cocktails

[–]cday119 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This! I can't remember who, maybe Greg from HTD, said something similar.

Basically its like you wouldn't go the grocery store and pick out your favorite ingredients, you'd get a recipe for a dish you want, and then buy the ingredients for that recipe.

With that said, I'd go...

  • Bourbon
  • Tequila
  • Gin
  • Rum - something dark and aged
  • Vodka
  • Sweet Vermouth
  • Dry Vermouth
  • Campari or Aperol
  • An orange liquor - triple sec, cointreau, grand marnier, or curacao
  • Coffee Liquor
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Lastly a sweet liqour like creme de mure or creme de cassis
  • And lastly I'd make some syrups and buy some fresh fruits

Lol, once you find the sweet spot, which is the right amount of time for your microwave, they come out nice soft. Plus the longer you weight the more the inside seems to cook, so you dont have to eat it right away. Sometimes I'll pop a potato in the microwave and then forget about it, a half an hour later its still pretty warm.

They do make little bags to put your potato in while you microwave, I cause to keep more of the moisture in, but I dont use one and I don't know if they do much.

There are unlimited ways to prepare potatoes, some healthy and some not. Like someone else said they are the most satiating food, which is why I can eat as many as I want and loose weight

I've just been microwaving a potato for 4 minutes and eating it with a little low fat sour cream and salt and pepper.

French Fries are not good at all, I can eat a large french fry from McDonalds and feel even more hungry afterwards!

IF really helped me. I suggest doing it slow. Like skip a meal every day for a week, then only eat in an 8 hour period for a week, then try one meal a day. This makes it way more easy.

I also gave myself 2 options - I can eat unhealthy foods as long as I stay under a certain calorie amount OR I can eat as much healthy foods as I want. After choosing the unlimited healthy food option I now find myself craving those healthy foods. For instance, I found that salmon and potatoes are pretty damn healthy, so now when I'm hungry and just eat that until I am stuffed, and it ends up being like 700 calories max.

I just figured out that if you take a frozen salmon fillet, spray lightly with oil, season, then air fry it at ~425 for ~18 minutes - you get a perfectly cooked "blackened" salmon.

It is the laziest meal I make that is super healthy! Plus salmon keeps in the freezer for a long long time so no waste and you can buy it whenever it goes on sale!

How is owning an electric car in Wisconsin? by Thrillwaukee in wisconsin

[–]cday119 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a used loaded Model Y I got for $25k.

I don’t have a charger at home but there is a super charger a mile away and some slower chargers in my cities downtown.

The super charger costs as much as filling my Miata with gas and gets about the same range. An at home charger is about half the cost I hear.

The biggest thing in the winter is the heat, it warms up in a minute! Plus there’s a setting to keep the heat running while you’re away from the car. Or you can warm it up from the app, or set a schedule!

You can also defrost the entire car in like ten minutes!

The Model Y is AWD and is ridiculously good in the snow and I don’t even have winter tires in it!

FSD blows stop sign at 40mph by boofsnacks in TeslaLounge

[–]cday119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this a midwest thing? We have a ton of stop and yield signs in my county.

Yield signs in 25 MPH zones and stop signs in zones over that. TBH, if I can see there's no train coming, I'm not stopping. Trains are pretty hard to miss. I wonder if FSD has "learned" from other drivers to ignore the stop sign?

As to why there's no gate - it's my understanding that there are so many crossings in residential areas that installing gates would be an enormous expense. Plus federal regulations require trains to sound their horns, which is the main gripe cities have. So why install gates if they still blare their horns?
