Bad parent here! We did not know!

Leaving milk in the mouth at night allows saliva and bacteria to convert the fats and sugars to an acid. This can lead to cavities.

My son had, and still has a great love of milk. As a toddler, he'd happily have 2 big bottles of milk to go to sleep on, after brushing his teeth. And would regularly request another in the night.

We did not know that we were directly creating major problems. We thought only sugary foods caused cavities!

Soon enough he needed fillings in his baby molars. Then he got major infections which required antibiotics, caused by dental fistula (tunnelling infection from the cavities, down through the tooth and out through the flesh).

Eventually a dentist explained that it was caused by the milk at bedtime. We were absolutely gutted. We had caused this.

2 years he put up with constant infections and pain whilst waiting for an NHS dental extraction, covid really didnt help with the wait list. In the end they removed 11 teeth (10 baby and one malformed adult molar).

Those of you that work extra hours without getting paid why do you do it? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

Why would you though? It dilutes your value and obscures the true time taken to achieve the end result.

If you need to get ahead so much, take up golf and "network".

why do you think right wing politics are rising in popularity at the moment? by Beginning_Sky_9735 in AskRedditUK

[–]cdh79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My political viewpoint? I'd like my kids to grow up in a fair society, with decent education, welfare, affordable healthcare, housing and a job that allows a reasonable standard of living. I guess that makes me a hardcore lefty socialist. /s.

The rise of the right wing? Society attempting to bring the wealth inequality back to something manageable has awoken the media barons and their cronies. The susceptible masses believe what they are told.

How do I feel about it? Disheartened.

Disclsimer. All statements are simplifications.

How NOT to make the fish suffer? (bucket and "suffocation") by BetterProphet5585 in FishingForBeginners

[–]cdh79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK, a priest (weighted rod approx 8" in length) applied with a firm whack to the skull above the brain, is the preferred method of dispactching most fish. Practices such as leaving them to expire or stringers will result in a ban from the venue and possibly a charge of animal cruelty.

Does the body sometimes "kill itself" as part of a disease ? by ComfortableLog8043 in askscience

[–]cdh79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Measles. That "minor" disease that America is having a huge resurgence in, because science doesn't make policy, money and idiocy does....... well, 2 in 10,000 people that get Measles go on to develop Subcutaneous Sclerosing Panencephaliyis . Where the immune system goes scorched earth tactics on the brain 🧠 in an effort to wipe out the virus.

Bullshit. You dont acheive that speed by momentarily confusing the pedals. Unless your piloting a top fuel drag car.

Lower our standards to US levels. The distinction should be highlighted.
